Stuart Little’s dream house is an off-grid cabin on the edge of the woods, in the backyard of our home. The cabin is perfect for people who are camping, but want a little more accommodation. It has two futons that can turn into double beds, table and chairs, small porch, outhouse, and a picnic bench. Bring your sleeping bag and camp stove, and you are all set! There are also places to pitch a tent, if desired. We are just a mile down the road from where EB White lived, the setting of Stuart Little's dream house (our yard) gives a glimpse into some real Maine living: Boats and boat trailers, a rambling garden, and often a free pile at the end of the driveway. *Note: There is no heat. *Note: There is no kitchen. camp stove + fuel can be rented for $5/night *Note: Please bring a sleeping bag. Otherwise, bedding/linens can be rented at $10/bed. *Hip Camp likes to say we are less than an hour to Acadia National Park, but I feel that is misleading. While we are close-ish, it usually takes over an hour to get to the main visitors center, Hulls Cove. It's usually about 1.5 hours to get to any of the trails/beaches. It started years ago my sister and I stayed in a yurt at a campground in Oregon. That was it. I was hooked so I got one. There is something magical about staying in a round structure in the trees. My love of nature and comfort drove me to create this special place to be able to share it with others. My TreeYurt is a platform built high in the trees so it essentially like a treehouse but with a yurt instead. It is located in the back part of my property surrounded by woods. In the spring there is a small stream running nearby. The land is somewhat sloped yet comfortable. There are apple orchards nearby and many hiking trails a short distance away as well as Portland a mere 15 minutes. The kitchenette has a small fridge a toaster oven a coffee maker a cook top with two burners pots pans utensils plates and bowls and kitchen towels as well a propane grill outside. There is a wood stove for heating in the winter as well as a monitor heater that makes it very cozy for chilly nights. The yurt is insulated so it is a great year round glamping (glorified camping) adventure. I provide fire some wood for the wood stove inside but the camp fire wood for the outdoor fire pit is $5 per bundle. The outhouse has a dry flush toilet and instructions at located in the yurt and out house. There is seasonal running hot and cold water (May through October) for the outdoor sink which is available for use for dishwashing and a bit of cleaning up. Also an outdoor shower is available for use May through October and biodegradable soaps and shampoo are provided. I provide gallons of drinking water and dishwashing water for the colder months inside the yurt with dish tubs sponges and soap. Any questions please ask. We are happy to help :)

Had everything we needed! Perfect spot for a little getaway/retreat. Nice and cozy warm with the wood stove and heater. The rocking chairs were a bonus! Had everything we needed to cook yummy food as well. Amy didn’t miss a thing!

Weekend Trip to Applecroft

Great car camping site and awesome hosts, super friendly and welcoming, Shane made sure I had fire wood and recommended that I take a short walk down to the pond in the morning to catch the sunrise and it did not disappoint! Gorgeous! I was only there for one night for a quick solo camping trip to go visit the Dambo trolls in the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens also highly recommended going there during your stay!

We loved the clear instructions for the rental and that Tressa laid out fairy lights to the cabin, which was slightly secluded. On that note, we so appreciated the privacy the distance from her house to the cabin gave us. Overall a super kind and positive person to rent from and a great experience to stay here.

This was a lovely spot tucked back from the road with a beautiful walk to the pond nearby. Heard lots of coyotes and owls, which was awesome. Directions to the site were clear and easy to navigate. Will hopefully come back someday!

What a nice little cottage! Very private and comfortable. Nestled in the woods nicely and a great collection of books to read about Maine. When you look out the back window all you see is forrest and pine trees. I really liked staying there and hope to again. I explored the Blue Hill area, Brooklin, Deer Isle and Stonington. Beautiful area! And this little cabin was just the kind of place I needed to relax and rest at the end of the day.

Such a gem of a campsite! And amazing, kind hosts. The site itself is down an old stagecoach road lined with apple trees — very secluded with no other campers around. We brought our paddleboards, spent the day on the water, followed it up with a hot outdoor shower, and topped it off with fresh strawberry shortcake and jamaican jerk chicken from Beth’s farm market down the road. So good! Nearby: So much. Beth’s, which is right down the road, really has everything you could need for a camping weekend. You’re also close to Warren (St. George Pizza), Waldoboro (Odd Alewives, Idas Wine Bar @ The Waldoboro Inn, The Waldo Theatre), Thomaston (Uproot Pie Co @ Carriage House), Rockland (Cafe Grazie, Sammy’s Deluxe, Luce Spirits, The Farnsworth Museum), Rockport (Seafolk Coffee), and Camden (Winona’s, First Fig, Megunticook Lake, Camden Hills State Park) Amenities: There’s a platform for your tent, a picnic table, firepit, and adirondack chairs. When we showed up, the hosts left fresh cut flowers at the site for us. There was also a little toilet + trashbag set up but we just used our luggable loo camp toilet + wag bags.

The little cabin was perfect for our needs. It was very nice to have the second futon to spread out on. There was just enough furniture to store stuff and it was very convenient to have the privy right outside for late night bathroom runs. Overall a very comfortable stay.

Excellent excellent spot! Wow such a beautiful gem of a place. Jeff and family were so kind, responsive, and generous. The camping area is about a 1/3 mile from the road and set up with a nice picnic table, large tent platform, and lovely views. There's a pond nearby and lots of field and trail to walk. Would definitely come back. Thanks!

I loved staying here! Thank you for the warm welcome with the personalized sign! The cabin is sparse but perfect and it does have a wine and beer opener which is a nice touch! Also nice where the warnings about the local red spotted caterpillars or brown red spotted caterpillars and some facts to know the hiking recommendation and the location. I was so grateful that they had well water and you could use it for hand washing and the 5 gallon jug of drinking water as well! Typically when you’re camping you don’t have that or even at some Airbnb’s and this was just sparse but so wonderful in terms of everything you need! Friendly hosts too and beautiful land. I also think we saw a robotic lawnmower? And that was very cool I hadn’t seen one before!
