Camps of the Pioneers

11 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents7 acres · Ellsworth, ME
Our property has a history detailed in the arrowheads and other Wabanaki artifacts found around the property. European settlers have also left clues behind of the shipbuilding industry and 1700's culture.Experience a bit of natural immersion and enjoy the endless opportunities for outdoor recreation while camping in the northern forests of Downeast Maine! We use our 6 acre property to focus on producing organically grown herbs, fruit, vegetables for local markets. We're finally making available the properties scenic brooks, forests and meadows to folks seeking to experience a truly unforgettable, countryside retreat. We’re just off the beaten path in an agricultural and fishing community on the Union River, 20 minutes drive from Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island. See what our other guests have had to say about their stays-“It’s an experience I would repeat with pleasure. Difficult to be short about my highlights: hearing the loon at night certainly, waking up with the quarter moon over my head, seeing the progression in changing colors of the leaves, the views from Mount Cadillac, and Beech Wood trail, Jordan Pond and the Bubbles,so many things really.” - Christine from Montpelier, France, Sept 2021."We were so at peace when we got here we just spent the rest of the day hanging at the yurt enjoying the peace and quiet today we are heading to the ocean!"- Jody from New Hampshire, July 2021."We could not have found a more idyllic place, plus it was our first experience in a yurt. We found your notes about Acadia super helpful and the yurt was just so beautiful and cozy. Having a hot bath and a little fire in the wood stove after a day of biking the Carriage Roads and swimming at Sand Beach could not have been more perfect. So glad we were at the yurt to enjoy the area and Acadia. We had an incredible stay and are hoping to come back next summer."- Jenn & Neil, August 2020.

Hole in the Wall Camping

4 sites · RVs, Tents30 acres · Strong, ME
We purchased this land a few years ago when our neighbors decided to sell. It abuts our property They used it as a place for their family to gather and camp on during Maine wonderful summer season. It is a beautiful, quiet spot with a great view and a small pond. Hipcamp lets us share this spot and helps pay our property taxes. We are located in the western mountains of Maine in a summer community on Porter Lake. There is a beautiful view of New Vineyard mountain from our 3 acre field. We have 2 trailer sites with power and water (non potable) and an out house. The field has several fire pits and soft grassy spaces for pitching tents. The camping area is fairly private from our neighbors along the road. The site has a small private pond surrounded by trees you can sit and relax near. You can (walk/bike/drive) the 1/4 mile down the dirt road to the public beach. The beach has a public dock, boat ramp, swim float, picnic tables and grills. Paddle out to the island and try the rope swing with one of our kayaks or canoes. Be sure to check out the bald eagles that live in the white pine tree just a little farther down the island. You will hear the loons during your stay and possibly see a mother with her babies on her back. There are also ducks and ducklings and geese with gosling paddling about the lake. The state stocks the lake with trout, splake, and salmon if you like to fish. There is plenty to do right here!

Many Mini Hills Forest

1 site · Tent16 acres · Thorndike, ME
We love our woodsy off grid lifestyle and are excited to share with others! About this land: We have a beautiful, thickly forested 16 acres 30 minutes from coastal Belfast near the Common Ground fairgrounds and Unity Pond / Lake Winnecook in Unity. We live in Wabanaki Alliance territory, on unceded Passamaquoddy land. A right-of-way going through the property offers great viewing, walking, biking, ATVing, horseback riding, birding, xc skiing, or snowmobiling. Bushwack to a swimming hole to escape the bugs and heat. Or, give us tips on our disc golf half-course (lots of putting). You will select from a variety of primitive campsites (all more than 150 feet from parking!) offering private commune with nature, and the nearby town of Unity can satisfy your need for near music, drinks, or socializing. We recommend you bring your own water, as our well is of questionable quality and far to haul. Please do not bring outside wood. We have rentable bikes and kayaks so long as you have a way to carry them... Our wonderful nephew is staying with us this summer in a yurt nearby the campsites and will be able to help with any of your needs.

Daylily Farm & Waterfalls

3 sites · Lodging, RVs4 acres · Monroe, ME
Daylily Farm was once part of a large family farm with many acres of fields that have grown into Pine and hardwood forests during the past eighty years. The family was fond of flowers and their efforts have endured into the present. There are two acres of daylilies, Iris, peonies, daffodils, lilacs and concord grapevines. After the last of the White family passed the gardens were slowly being overrun by other opportunistic plants including many Pines. They were crowding out the flower but fortunately the flowers are quite hardy. Going on two years now the flower beds are being reclaimed and the property is being nurtured back into its cared for loveliness. Before the Great Depression the Monroe town center was located on either side of the falls. Rumor has it that during the depression and with electricity becoming available along the Maine Coast, the towns people took down their buildings leaving only the granite foundations and went to live and farm at the coast. This left very little of the town. Fortunately they dismantled the dam and restored the falls to their natural state. This is my second summer here. The first I watched to see what plants grow where and this year there is a lot of reclaiming of the gardens. There are grapevines that are at least 80 years old. New vegetable gardens are being planted. Hegekarten's are being built of the organic materials all around. The sounds of the waterfalls constantly fill the air which is soothing.  Falling to sleep with the sounds of falling waters is quite delightful.
