We have four raised platforms, accessible by car, each with a canvas-covered A-frame Each platform is nested in their own private setting around the edges of our 12-acre organic blueberry barren. All four platforms are fully screened-in, with stylish canvas-covered timberframes and circular red doors. These canvas tents are relatively bug-proof and waterproof; you do not need to bring a tent! You do need to bring your own bedding. ***If you are particularly sensitive to bugs, you may want to bring your own tent (to put inside our tent) or a mosquito net. This is the Northeast during the summertime, we cannot ensure there will be no bugs. Blueberry Land is part of Smithereen Farm, but is located around the corner from our Home Farm on Youngs Cove Road, near Reversing Falls. This is an off grid, rustic site with only a port-a-potty. If you need to use any other amenities, you are welcome to use the WIFI, fill your water bottles, charge your electric vehicle and buy supplies at the Smithereen Farmstore (12 Little Falls Road, Pembroke). We sell cold drinks, beer and wine, frozen fish, meat, our own fruit popsicles, also organic veggies, honey, products from many local and Maine farms, camping supplies, ready to eat food, snacks, chocolates and even fresh baked cookies. Park at the store, and then jump into the Pennamaquan River (two dams, a rope swing) to cool off after exploring the town. Note: there is no potable water at the site, you will need to bring a vessel and fill up in town. There are beautiful walking, biking and canoeing opportunities in every direction—check out Cobscook Shores, Downeast Coastal Conservancy trails by Reversing Falls, Maine Coast Heritage trails on the Bold Coast and at Sipps Bay, Nature Conservancy trail at Hersey Point, Shackford head at Eastport, and of course much more on Campobello. Blueberry bushes are low, native, fruit-growing, covered in flowers in spring and then berries in summer, turning bright bright red in the fall when kissed by frost. Our blueberries are certified organic by MOFGA and surrounded by birch, fir, spruce and flowering perennial beds to improve insect habitat. Please DO NOT DRIVE/ tread ON THE BERRIES, they are food that we harvest and sell! Park in the parking lot, three sites are immediately visible, the fourth site is a further drive down the road, past the port-o-potty, in the back field, to the left. Low hung vehicles beware! If in doubt park in the parking lot. Upon booking, we will send you a PDF welcome packet filled with helpful information about the farm, local sites to see, and a comprehensive list of our recommendations. We will say it again: remember to prepare for MOSQUITOES in summer! We really recommend you approach Washington County as an opportunity to PICNIC! The "dining out" options are limited. Happy Dwelling is just 10 minutes from downtown Machias, Maine. It rests on 8 acres of land. Woods create a private and peaceful stay. You may enjoy starry night skies and soft orange sunrises. Just a short walk, is the lovely Sunrise Trail, a converted old train line, for biking, walking, four-wheeling, and horseback riding. Lakes are close by for swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. Also on-site, chair and table massage by appointment (I am the Massage Therapist!). We built a new outhouse! It's beautiful! Potable water is available by hose from my house. There are lots of hiking trails in the area. If you're interested in touring some of the towns nearby, Lubec, Eastport, Machias, and Campobello Island are all good choices. And, they all have a hiking trail or two, and I place to have lunch.

Walking past the pond and through the field towards the tree line, you'll arrive at our tiny cabin situated on a hill with the salt marsh below. The cabin is furnished with a full sized futon, a wooden bench, beehive working woodstove, and shelving. There are candle lanterns provided, however we suggest also bringing a few flashlights. Depending on the season we have farm vegetables and eggs available, kayaks available upon request to use to explore the salt marsh and harbors right out in front of the cabin. 1 night at Happy Dwelling

Site 4 & 5 are both secluded and private. We like site #5 better because our 16ft camper van could easily back up and turn around to exit. There was a trail near our site that was lined with pine trees that gave a fragrant smell through the air. Birds congregated in the trees with soft chatter and at night it was so peaceful. Due to the ban on camp fires here, we cannot add additional comments on what that might have felt like but since we have experienced camp fires before, this probably would have been perfect. We had rain/drizzle over night waking to wet grasses in the morning but the sun quickly popped out later on. Our host was extremely friendly and accomodating upon our arrival the first night and left us with a warm feeling of kindness for our adventures aheaad. If you like the outdoors, plan on a night or two in the woods. Cell coverage was decent (AT&T).

We had a super stay at this site. I just stayed one night but would have been happy to stay longer to explore around the rocks by the water and just enjoy the incredible view from the site. We really had no issues. There is a short walk from the site to the parking area, which Tyler showed us. It’s a path through the woods, or up past Tyler’s house to get between the car and the site. This site feels private but is near the car. There’s a nicely stocked compost toilet near the site and a very nice water pump which is easy to use for drinking water. While I loved the site with the views of the water, I also would stay at the other site if I needed a place in the area and the water view site was booked.

Great, easy to access spot. The farm store was lovely and a great landing pad and place to return to for treats, treasures, literature and connection. The guide was thoughtful and well planned out. We used it to source food and adventures. We chose to set up our own tent inside the triangle tents just because we are used to it and it fit our sleep system well but I think we’d have been comfortable without it. The land itself had so many birds that we just sat outside with binoculars for hours. We also heard a porcupine mating call for the first time. Just a nice warm place to be. 100% recommend and would definitely return in the future.

Such a magical beauty of spot! We loved waking up to fresh wild blueberry picking with our toddler. Magical fields, wild flowers and the farm is incredible and the surroundings are great to explore. Swimming hole, pond and Eastport. We are sad to leave and stayed for a week :)
