Birch Point Ocean Lookout
We had a super stay at this site. I just stayed one night but would have been happy to stay longer to explore around the rocks by the water and just enjoy the incredible view from the site.
We really had no issues. There is a short walk from the site to the parking area, which Tyler showed us. It’s a path through the woods, or up past Tyler’s house to get between the car and the site. This site feels private but is near the car.
There’s a nicely stocked compost toilet near the site and a very nice water pump which is easy to use for drinking water.
While I loved the site with the views of the water, I also would stay at the other site if I needed a place in the area and the water view site was booked.

Tyler’s campsite on the ocean was just what my family and I were looking for! It was quiet and peaceful- Tyler was a great host and if we are back in this area again and need a place to camp, we’d definitely stay here!

So I feel badly leaving this review bc Tyler is a gem & I think his vision for this place is wonderful… but I definitely would not return. First of all- the “site” is right next to the road & the drive into the house. I could clearly see anyone who walked by on the road as well as Tyler & other guests walking around driveway. No privacy whatsoever. Speaking of privacy- forget the outhouse. It has windows on both sides (with NO covering) & a flimsy burlap sack door that doesn’t fully cover the entrance. Your business is all out there when you’re using the outhouse. No thank you. The listing also states there are campfires allowed but there are no fires allowed at the sites, which I was not happy about… he told me I could have a fire at this pit that is right behind his house but that didn’t really interest me. The patch of land for the site wasn’t level at all & and ended up having rain get in my tent one of the nights which was very frustrating. The bugs were really bad too there but that’s obviously not his fault…there is no “beach” - the way down to the water is very difficult & it’s not that nice it’s just a bit of the Machias bay & not ocean. There was a beach of sorts about 10 min away but it’s all rocky. Tbh the only good thing about this place is that isn’t terribly far from the cutler coast… not much else. I wish Tyler the best but this needs a ton of work & to have more privacy before it should be listed on Hipcamp & most definitely not worth $200 for 3 nights :(

This was the perfect trip!! It is sometimes hard to find a place that allows 3 dogs (yes we are crazy and have 3 Goldens) so we were so happy to find this location. On top of that, the views from our site were absolutely amazing. Tyler was very communicative and helpful prior to arrival, providing very detailed instructions to us on where the site is located on the property. The outhouse was so quaint, well equipped, and clean. It is exactly what you would expect of a cute little off the grid outhouse. Tyler was very friendly and even offered to send us home with fresh kale from his garden! It was a very private and remote spot (even with one other occupied camp site and Tyler’s house around the corner we felt it was nice and secluded and exactly what we wanted). I had fun climbing down to the rocky beach during low tide to check out some small tide pools. The rocks will be very slippery when wet and Tyler thoughtfully has a sign up about this to give everybody a heads up. We hope to be back one day!

Maple Grove Tent Site
The Maple Grove space is a bit compact but adequate (the Birch Point site has lovely views). I used the site not as a destination campsite but as a home base to stay at while meeting with hiking friends in the Machias area and driving to state parks and trail heads on the northern Maine coast. Tyler was gracious, accommodating and helpful but also unobtrusive in a good way. All told, exactly what I needed for my long weekend on the Maine coast.

We spent two nights at Tyler’s place with our young daughter. The site was breezy with great ocean views and enough room for our little tent. The tides were not in our favor so we didn’t spend much time on the beach (a little slip of rocks at high tide) and the path down was a little steep to get down there with our kiddo.
There was someone staying at the other site which is next to the parking, but the spot we camped felt private. It was a walk to carry everything too and from the car, but not too bad with trips back and forth.
We loved seeing the sunset, the fireflies, and the stars from our tent!
Tyler was friendly and responsive. This is a nice spot close to many beaches and about 45 min to Quoddy Head and Lubec.

Tyler was amazing! He was very sweet, knowledgeable, and accommodating and offered us free roaming of the land since there were no other bookings at the time. We loved his off-the-grid homestead setup and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful little retreat. We would love to come back in the spring when we have more time to stay! What a great place to spend a few days/nights! My tent site overlooking the water was spectacular. Tyler is a gracious host. He met me upon my arrival, showed me around his property, and provided directions and suggestions related to the area. He even sent my home with some freshly cut kale from his garden. Very much enjoyed my stay and a place I'll revisit again one of these days.

We loved camping on Tyler’s land! He gave us a tour upon arrival and we chatted quite a bit. The land is gorgeous. Lots of beautiful critters around, and an outhouse view that can’t be beat!
We will be back again one day.

We absolutely loved our stay at Tyler’s! The view of the water was perfect. We were treated to some garden veggies, saw 2 deer and enjoyed jasper beach and playing on the rocks right at camp!

Hosts did not meet us upon arrival or talk more than a few sentences during our stay. Thankfully the photos and descriptions he had on the listing were enough to figure it out. Our family of 5 was there for two nights and when our hosts did come home they didn’t know which site we booked or how long we were staying. The grass and weeds along the paths was exceptionally tall and unavoidable while using the site which lead to contact with ticks. The out house is not fully enclosed. Rather its doorway is a gauzy see through burlap curtain that did not cover the sides. The outhouse did smell as bad a pit toilets can and there was no shavings out for use. There was visible dung and insects in the toilet. They had a small step trash can where they asked guests to place used toilet tissue next to the toilet and it was full to the top when we arrived and never emptied. It did have a roll of toilet paper and hand sanitizer on a shelf. This place was not as I expected. The flat rock beach is hazardous to walk and they have a sign warning guests, thankfully. It is only accessible during low tide. Three out of five of our family fell while carefully navigating the rocks and one had a sprained wrist from slipping. We are a family accustomed to hiking trails and shores. Also, parking is a difficulty due to the hosts having two vehicles in the single lane driveway. We parked on the street in the end. We will not be returning due to both the location and the absent service by the hosts.

Tyler was more than accommodating and a wonderful host. He showed us around the site, gave us a tour of his garden, and gave us a few tips on things we could do out in town.
The site and the outhouse were both very clean and Tyler is continuing to make improvements to the sites as well. We wished we could have stayed longer but we are already trying to make plans with friends later to come back again soon.

This site is a small, wooded rustic setting with delicious cold hand pumped water and a very cute new out house with a bay view.
Tyler was a relaxed and gracious host who told me what I needed to know about the local area. Lucy was away when I visited.

Incredibly beautiful and well maintained property! We had a really great stay, and Lucy and Tyler were such gracious hosts. They went above and beyond the property description, making sure we had fresh water, silverware, etc. plus they had a communal fire built that would have made for a very easy cooking situation. The location is unbeatable; the site looks directly over the water and is gorgeous. The outhouse was also way cleaner and more comfortable than any other campsite we’ve been to!

Camping on Tyler & Lucy's property was comfortable, welcoming, scenic and relaxing. The site overlooks the Machias Bay and has lots of shade provided by the surrounding trees. It is important to note that this site is in their backyard but far enough away from their house that you do feel privacy at the site. The fire pit is communal and is close to Lucy & Tyler's house so if you want a private fire pit, this location may not be for you. This is not a site where your car is right next to you, so be prepared to walk your belongings from the road to your site. It is not a long walk and they provide a wheel barrow for ease. The outhouse is also shared and is to be used for #2 only ;-) We did have dinner with Tyler & Lucy our last night there at the fire pit which we really enjoyed. There are places to swim nearby and hikes to do nearby as well! We enjoyed our stay and we would go again!

The area for camping is well placed with good privacy, serene views, and the feeling of being away in the woods while actually just a minute walk from the parking. On the way to the campsite you will pass their lovely home and impressive garden with veggies, herbs, and flowers. The outhouse is clean and well organized/stocked. Tyler and Lucy are personable, communicative, and generous. We would absolutely stay here again.
