Big Moose Inn Cabins & CampgroundIrving O. Hunt and his brother Lyman built some rough camps on Millinocket Lake before they became interested in the Nesowadnehunk Stream region. Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know.The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake. Before a dam controlled Ambajejus’ water level, it was possible to pole up the short stream from Millinocket Lake into Ambejejus.Fred Spencer build the camps, originally named Camp Eureka, in 1899 or 1900 and ran them with his brother. With the founding of Millinocket only a few years earlier and lumbering roads nearing Katahdin, the two lakes became more easily accessible. Camp Eureka was advertised as the only camp reachable by both boat (from Norcross) and road (from Millinocket). In 1905, the rate was $1.50 per day, meals included. Spencer also claimed the lakes had no flies or mosquitoes during spring and summer- a phenomenon caused by the way winds blow across the lakes, which makes it difficult for insects to gain a foothold.The camps’ name changed to Camp Spencer and later to Spencer’s Camps. Around 1929 the lease was transferred to Elmer Woodworth, who lived with his wife on a nearby island while they operated the camps. Elmer, a well-known guide, trapped over the winter, and his wife served as the camp cook. The couple soon renamed the camps Millinocket Lake Camps and Trading Post. They also maintained an outlying camp on Sandy Stream for their guests. In 1941, a major fire broke out in the area. The Woodworths saved the camps by wetting them down, but lost their island home when a stray spark jumped the cove. There is some evidence that, for a short time, a gentleman named Johnny Given either held the lease or managed the camps for the Woodworths. Except for that brief change the Woodworths operated the camps for many years until they passed the lease on to their son Ray, who ran them with his wife Muriel.In 1977, the lease was transferred to Bob and Frederica (“Teddy”) Boynton, who in 1981 sold the trading post to Erwin and Maureen Bacon. The Boyntons retained the sporting camp operation and later added a public restaurant. Teddy renamed the camps Big Moose Inn. Bob and his son Bruce made many renovations to the camps, while Teddy decorated and furnished them. The Boynton Family has remained involved in the success of the inn and restaurant. After Teddy’s death in 1991, management passed to Bruce and his sister Laurie, but Bob and other family members are still very involved.The dam separates the flowages of the two lakes. Millinocket Lake is about eight feet above its original level, and Ambajejus is now some 21 feet above its original level. Welcome to Lilac Firefly! This is a residential 7 acre property in a quiet and safe neighborhood. We are right off the main road for easy access about 15-20 minutes south of Bangor. It is very peaceful and calm here. We live in the 5 bedroom older farmhouse where you can use the bathroom if needed. You will receive a code for the electronic door lock. There is a small stream and community fireplace by the 4 campsites and another fireplace closer to the garden. The designated campsites are at the rear of the property and are first come, first serve. A tent can be set up anywhere on the 7 acres and does not need to be in the designated campsite area. We have easily acomodated 20+ canpers at once (6-8 groups), though typically you might be the only group here. Car camping, van life, and RVs are welcome! There are some lightly wooded areas, apple trees, a pear tree, and an open field. We are pet friendly and there animals that live here that won't bother you. I also travel a lot as a DJ and audio tech and might not be here, but have a self check in process and video I will send. Roommates are generally here. Maine Savings Amphitheatre is 15 min away (concerts in Bangor). Acadia National Park is just over 1 hour away. Bangor and Bucksport are both about 15 min away. Fort Knox is about 20 min away. From the campsites, the road and house are not visible. We have flowers when in season, deer, turkey, birds, and friendly creatures that visit.
Please be ready to be self sufficient and sustainable in any weather. Well water is available at the RV posts and passes all tests - pure and safe for drinking. RV parking may need to be arranged with myself. For RVs, Electric hook up is 30amp and an extra $10/day. Water hook up is $5/fill. Chopped, split, and dried wood (pine) is available included in your Hipcamp fee! You can burn what you need for the day/night. Thank you.

One cabin with electric, no water. The cabin has two twin beds, refrigerator, microwave, outdoor grill and cook plate. Due to the remote location, the electricity is interrupted often.
Two primitive camp/RV sites, no water, electric or dump station. Each site has a picnic table in a screen tent which is a necessity due to the black flies, mosquitoes and horse flies that come with the territory.
The Viking style longhouse is available for gatherings, events, etc. It does not have electricity or water.
No pond or stream access on property however, many ponds and streams are nearby and accessed by vehicle on logging roads. No ATVs allowed on logging roads. We are 40 miles from Ellsworth or Brewer and about 70 miles from Calais.
This is a no frills campground that offers a peaceful and quiet setting to enjoy the remote Maine woods or use as a base to explore this beautiful part of the state. We have had many folks utilize the "longhouse" for family gatherings, board game weekends and meetings.
We don't have children or dogs at the campground as we want this to be a quiet retreat for folks looking to relax and enjoy the Maine woods. This is a new campground, and we are improving the property each year with landscaping and walking trails.
May is a tough camping month due to the black flies, so keep that in mind when making reservations.

In Corinth, the paved roads are considered ATV trails as long as you're heading to a trail (closest trail is less than 4 miles away). We are 30 minutes from the Interstate, 30 minutes from the Waterfront Concerts venue and Cross Insurance Center, and less than 1-2 hours from a ton of great outdoor attractions, like the Moosehead Lake Region, Baxter State Park, Fort Knox / Penobscot Observatory, and tons more.
We can offer 15a electric at Sites 1 and 4, and we have a small dumpster, one bag of trash per stay is allowed. There is direct access to our private wooded trail system (non-motorized-use-only).
Camp site property is attached to a small hobby farm with 2 horses and a flock of chickens. We sell beautiful blue/green/brown farm-fresh eggs from our free range chickens ($5/dozen). We also offer an optional and customizable "Farm Experience"... collect eggs, brush and feed horses, etc.
Also optional/customizable, visit our home for a traditional Maine meal served on our patio, near our big fire pit. Meals are negotiated on a custom basis with local in-season foods.

Legend has it, an ancient Egyptian tribe crossed the Atlantic in search of lobster and good times. Arriving in Maine, they erected a tribute to their ancestral home in the form of a pyramid. Inside the pyramid you will find these mysterious nomads spared no expense recreating the authentic aesthetic of Giza . Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know.The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake. Before a dam controlled Ambajejus’ water level, it was possible to pole up the short stream from Millinocket Lake into Ambejejus.Fred Spencer build the camps, originally named Camp Eureka, in 1899 or 1900 and ran them with his brother. With the founding of Millinocket only a few years earlier and lumbering roads nearing Katahdin, the two lakes became more easily accessible. Camp Eureka was advertised as the only camp reachable by both boat (from Norcross) and road (from Millinocket). In 1905, the rate was $1.50 per day, meals included. Spencer also claimed the lakes had no flies or mosquitoes during spring and summer- a phenomenon caused by the way winds blow across the lakes, which makes it difficult for insects to gain a foothold.The camps’ name changed to Camp Spencer and later to Spencer’s Camps. Around 1929 the lease was transferred to Elmer Woodworth, who lived with his wife on a nearby island while they operated the camps. Elmer, a well-known guide, trapped over the winter, and his wife served as the camp cook. The couple soon renamed the camps Millinocket Lake Camps and Trading Post. They also maintained an outlying camp on Sandy Stream for their guests. In 1941, a major fire broke out in the area. The Woodworths saved the camps by wetting them down, but lost their island home when a stray spark jumped the cove. There is some evidence that, for a short time, a gentleman named Johnny Given either held the lease or managed the camps for the Woodworths. Except for that brief change the Woodworths operated the camps for many years until they passed the lease on to their son Ray, who ran them with his wife Muriel.In 1977, the lease was transferred to Bob and Frederica (“Teddy”) Boynton, who in 1981 sold the trading post to Erwin and Maureen Bacon. The Boyntons retained the sporting camp operation and later added a public restaurant. Teddy renamed the camps Big Moose Inn. Bob and his son Bruce made many renovations to the camps, while Teddy decorated and furnished them. The Boynton Family has remained involved in the success of the inn and restaurant. After Teddy’s death in 1991, management passed to Bruce and his sister Laurie, but Bob and other family members are still very involved.The dam separates the flowages of the two lakes. Millinocket Lake is about eight feet above its original level, and Ambajejus is now some 21 feet above its original level. Welcome to Lilac Firefly! This is a residential 7 acre property in a quiet and safe neighborhood. We are right off the main road for easy access about 15-20 minutes south of Bangor. It is very peaceful and calm here. We live in the 5 bedroom older farmhouse where you can use the bathroom if needed. You will receive a code for the electronic door lock. There is a small stream and community fireplace by the 4 campsites and another fireplace closer to the garden. The designated campsites are at the rear of the property and are first come, first serve. A tent can be set up anywhere on the 7 acres and does not need to be in the designated campsite area. We have easily acomodated 20+ canpers at once (6-8 groups), though typically you might be the only group here. Car camping, van life, and RVs are welcome! There are some lightly wooded areas, apple trees, a pear tree, and an open field. We are pet friendly and there animals that live here that won't bother you. I also travel a lot as a DJ and audio tech and might not be here, but have a self check in process and video I will send. Roommates are generally here. Maine Savings Amphitheatre is 15 min away (concerts in Bangor). Acadia National Park is just over 1 hour away. Bangor and Bucksport are both about 15 min away. Fort Knox is about 20 min away. From the campsites, the road and house are not visible. We have flowers when in season, deer, turkey, birds, and friendly creatures that visit.
Please be ready to be self sufficient and sustainable in any weather. Well water is available at the RV posts and passes all tests - pure and safe for drinking. RV parking may need to be arranged with myself. For RVs, Electric hook up is 30amp and an extra $10/day. Water hook up is $5/fill. Chopped, split, and dried wood (pine) is available included in your Hipcamp fee! You can burn what you need for the day/night. Thank you.

The Viking style longhouse is available for gatherings, events, etc. It does not have electricity or water.
No pond or stream access on property however, many ponds and streams are nearby and accessed by vehicle on logging roads. No ATVs allowed on logging roads. We are 40 miles from Ellsworth or Brewer and about 70 miles from Calais.
This is a no frills campground that offers a peaceful and quiet setting to enjoy the remote Maine woods or use as a base to explore this beautiful part of the state. We have had many folks utilize the "longhouse" for family gatherings, board game weekends and meetings.

In Corinth, the paved roads are considered ATV trails as long as you're heading to a trail (closest trail is less than 4 miles away). We are 30 minutes from the Interstate, 30 minutes from the Waterfront Concerts venue and Cross Insurance Center, and less than 1-2 hours from a ton of great outdoor attractions, like the Moosehead Lake Region, Baxter State Park, Fort Knox / Penobscot Observatory, and tons more.
We can offer 15a electric at Sites 1 and 4, and we have a small dumpster, one bag of trash per stay is allowed. There is direct access to our private wooded trail system (non-motorized-use-only).
Camp site property is attached to a small hobby farm with 2 horses and a flock of chickens. We sell beautiful blue/green/brown farm-fresh eggs from our free range chickens ($5/dozen). We also offer an optional and customizable "Farm Experience"... collect eggs, brush and feed horses, etc.
Also optional/customizable, visit our home for a traditional Maine meal served on our patio, near our big fire pit. Meals are negotiated on a custom basis with local in-season foods.

Legend has it, an ancient Egyptian tribe crossed the Atlantic in search of lobster and good times. Arriving in Maine, they erected a tribute to their ancestral home in the form of a pyramid. I slept in my tent near the apple tree with the large green apples and the deer were right outside my tent all night and everytime an apple hit the ground they would grunt and prance in excitement and I could hear them crunching down on the apples all night. It was cool to experience.

We had a short but really nice visit. You have be ready for rustic vibe. It was cozy and the electric heater came in handy. I wish we had more time to explore the grounds but we were just passing through. Would absolutely recommend a visit.

Evan is incredibly welcoming, friendly and accommodating. His communication is second to none! He even took the time to make videos to show you exactly where to go on the property. I had a great time car camping here and would definitely come back again if I'm in the area.. it worked out perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of parents weekend at the University of Maine. It's also close to Acadia national Park which is great. Definitely recommend!

We loved camping here so much that we extended our stay! Evan was very responsive, and we happened to have the camping area to ourselves. Access to water was awesome and the site was very easy to bring our car to. Beautiful location and peaceful surroundings! Would happily camp here again!

I had a big site. The water and electric was over by the bathrooms and if I had my RV it would have been a pain to get to but since i was in my camper van it was no problem. The campgrounds were really clean and well taken care of and so was the bathrooms. Campgrounds are really close to Baxter State Park

This campground was perfectly situated in the heart of God's country. It sits between Lake Ambejejus and Millinockett Lake. We found Ambejejus to be outstanding for swimming. The sites were very spacious and flat. AB was right next to the bathrooms/showers, which was also nice. There are also 3 restaurants within walking distance that offer a nice variety of cuisines, ranging from bar food/sandwiches to upscale entrees. We really had a great time at Big Moose!

Very convenient location! We did some tent camping out of our car and found a nice flat designated spot. That night we were greeted by multiple deer being on the property which was fun! We had a blast here and found it to be very convenient being able to use the bathroom at the house. Would love to stay here again!
