Carter's Cross Country Ski Center and Shop has been a family-owned business since 1984. The land on which the trails have been built on has been in the Carter family since the late 1700's. The first Carter who came to Bethel was the first doctor in the area that helped Mollyocket, a Native American medicine woman.
All the different generations that came along after were either farmers or loggers or both. Carter's XC Ski Center is located on the banks of the Big Androscoggin River. Our private established skiing/walking trails meander through the Maine woods all the way up to Farwell Mountain, overlooking Sunday River Ski, the Presidential and Mahoosuc Mountain Ranges and Mt. Our property is what remains of an old farm in the foothills of the White Mountains in western Maine which dates back to the early 1800s. What was originally a 300-acre farmstead is now just the hub: the classic main house, barn, and shed, and the three acres of woodland and meadows that surround it. Fortunately, our immediate neighbors are large landowners, so the area still has that bucolic, undeveloped, peaceful feel. And, while we did have all manner of farm animals early on when the kids were young, we’re a farm in name only now—although it still very much looks the part.
We’ve been welcoming guests in our home and on our property since 2018, and in 2022 we renovated the old chicken shed across the street next to our Civil War-era barn to make a cozy glamping space we call the ShackHilton. “Shack” because, well, it still is a shack, and “Hilton” because that was the name of the original owner way back in 1820 (plus it’s really nice inside).
We’re three miles west of the village of Bridgton, a classic Maine town with all the amenities you’ll need (groceries, restaurants, laundry, etc). This area is know for it’s lakes and ponds (there are so many we will never be able to kayak all of them) and we’re within an hour of both the White Mountains and the cute coastal city of Portland. There are so many outdoor activities to do here, in all seasons, that no matter when you visit there will always be an adventure right outside the door.

Carter's Cross Country Ski Center and Shop has been a family-owned business since 1984. The land on which the trails have been built on has been in the Carter family since the late 1700's. The first Carter who came to Bethel was the first doctor in the area that helped Mollyocket, a Native American medicine woman.
All the different generations that came along after were either farmers or loggers or both. Carter's XC Ski Center is located on the banks of the Big Androscoggin River. Our private established skiing/walking trails meander through the Maine woods all the way up to Farwell Mountain, overlooking Sunday River Ski, the Presidential and Mahoosuc Mountain Ranges and Mt. The bathroom has a 48" stand up shower with rain shower head and is stocked with towels, hand soap, bar soap, hair dryer, starter toilet paper and paper towels for your stay. The yurt is heated with a comfortbuilt pellet stove which is easy to use and can be left unattended for a day out to come back to a nice warm space. We also have a Mini split heat pump which is an additional heat source but also provides air conditioning to keep you cool and comfortable in the warmer months.

Our property is what remains of an old farm in the foothills of the White Mountains in western Maine which dates back to the early 1800s. What was originally a 300-acre farmstead is now just the hub: the classic main house, barn, and shed, and the three acres of woodland and meadows that surround it. Fortunately, our immediate neighbors are large landowners, so the area still has that bucolic, undeveloped, peaceful feel. And, while we did have all manner of farm animals early on when the kids were young, we’re a farm in name only now—although it still very much looks the part.
We’ve been welcoming guests in our home and on our property since 2018, and in 2022 we renovated the old chicken shed across the street next to our Civil War-era barn to make a cozy glamping space we call the ShackHilton. “Shack” because, well, it still is a shack, and “Hilton” because that was the name of the original owner way back in 1820 (plus it’s really nice inside).
We’re three miles west of the village of Bridgton, a classic Maine town with all the amenities you’ll need (groceries, restaurants, laundry, etc). This area is know for it’s lakes and ponds (there are so many we will never be able to kayak all of them) and we’re within an hour of both the White Mountains and the cute coastal city of Portland. There are so many outdoor activities to do here, in all seasons, that no matter when you visit there will always be an adventure right outside the door.

We had such a great time at the yurt and exploring the property with our two dogs! Morgan did a great job of showing us everything we needed to know for our stay. The yurt itself is absolutely beautiful and truly makes you feel like you’re sleeping in nature. The location that they chose to build the yurt provides an amazing view of the mountains right out the front window. We opted to use the wood-fired hot tub while we were there and it was a fantastic experience. Although the wood stove was out of commission during our stay, the space heaters that were provided were more than enough to keep the yurt toasty, even during the cold late November nights. We would gladly come back again!

Weekend Trip to Mead Hill at Mount Cabot Maple
We stayed in the yurt for a weekend and loved it! Bed was comfy and thought the woodstove wasn't working, the space heater kept us cozy. Morgan and Rush were excellent hosts, answered all our questions graciously and made us very welcome. The woodfired hot tub was glorious. Hope we can visit again someday!

Cozy stay and stunning views! Road driving up gets less paved but still doable. Walk to yurt from parking is a little workout but worth it. Very much enjoyed our stay and love the maple syrup!

Weekend Trip to Mountain View Motel & Campground
I really loved my stay here! It’s a great spot to relax and unwind. The coin operated showers were actually really nice. The cabin had a cozy, rustic vibe that made the stay memorable.
Just a couple things for future guests. The cabin I stayed in had a screened entry instead of a solid door, so it got a little chilly at night. Also with it being so close to other cabins, we had to hang a blanket on the door. Being close to the road means you’ll hear some traffic, and the dogs from the nearby house barked a bit here and there.
The game hall and kitchen area are a little dated, but they were clean and worked just fine.

Weekend Trip to Field of Faith on Lodge Hill
Amazing stay overall!! Ken and Jen were very communicative and so kind when we arrived. Instantly made us feel welcomed, and their camper was adorable and kept us very cozy/warm even though it was in the 40s at night. Also, the shower was so nice to have access to after a long day of camping/hiking. Highly recommend! We already said we cant wait to visit again.

I was not able to get to Ken and Jen's after booking due to issues. But they were so very kind and amenable to my needs. I've done a lot of Hipcamping and I appreciate kinds folks with nice accommodations and good hearts. Check them out. The little camper trailer looks lovely and added amenities for cooking and water and shower is a bonus.

What a beautiful property with great accommodations for guests like us. We stayed in the camper and loved every minute of it. Great campfire at night, lots of good food and a peaceful environment. The farmhouse is beautiful and the sunset breathtaking. We will definitely come back!

This yurt stay was peaceful, well-appointed, and thoughtfully designed from top to bottom. Everything inside had a clear purpose and was arranged to make settling in feel natural. It’s clear a lot of care went into creating a space that supports rest without distraction.
The scenery surrounding the site was a real highlight—wide, uninterrupted views that made even quiet moments feel expansive. It’s also very secluded, with a strong sense of privacy.
Communication with the host was smooth and prompt, which added to the low-stress feel of the whole trip. One delightful highlight: they make their own maple syrup on the property, and it’s excellent—rich, smooth, and clearly crafted with skill.
If you’re looking for a place to unplug without giving up basic comfort, this is a solid option. Balanced, quiet, and beautifully situated.

Absolutely sweeping views! The yurt has power. Hot water shower outside with a sink behind it. We went in the rain and staying dry was absolutely no problem at all. I cannot get over how beautiful the land is. When I say sweeping views, I mean you can see many, many mountains through the door of the yurt. Morgan was fantastic, friendly, and hospitipal. Highly recommend!

The folks at the farm were super kind and it was so incredibly peaceful there! We got to watch the baby highland cow get bottle fed which was such an awesome surprise! Very easy to access from Portland too! I highly recommend going to Elevensies too if you're there on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday!

Weekend Trip to Field of Faith on Lodge Hill
We loved staying at the vintage camper site. Ken and his dog Marley met us when we first arrived and showed us how things worked and where to find the amenities. The fresh flowers were a nice touch. Ample firewood and some supplies and snacks were available for a marginal fee. It was quiet and well maintained. Will definitely be back.

Runaround is such a great spot! The sleeping pods are awesome and the whole setup is quite cute. There are a number of beautiful places to explore close by, as well as great restaurants and breweries in the surrounding towns. Definitely recommend!

Staying at the hobbit hut was truly such a special magical experience! Our hosts have created such a beautiful place and were very helpful and kind. We were lucky enough to be there to see some baby piggies and watching the family of pigs was such a joy! We hope to visit again!

This cabin feels rustic yet has many of the comforts of home. It was very clean and the pictures accurately represent the space. My wife and I stayed for two nights and really appreciated the washer and dryer after tent camping for several days. The keurig coffee maker and nice selection of coffees was really nice, too. The spiral staircase is pretty tight leading up to the bed in the loft, but the bed is comfortable and the fan made for nice sleeping. Lots of great hiking close by, too. We'd definitely stay again.

We very much enjoyed our stay and visit in the Hobbit House at Tir na nOg farm. Such a unique structure on a beautiful farm location. Holly was an amazing host and shared lots of info with us on the farm history, the animals and flowers on the farm, etc.
