Only a 45 min drive from Chicago. We also offer free parking to Miller Beach on Lake Michigan which is only a 10 min drive to there and the Indiana Dunes. Peaceful and enchanting. Very rustic and private. we are in the best part of the Illinois wilderness. Our woods transport you a world away, yet you are just a short walk from your vehicle and a short drive to Starved Rock, numerous parks, lakes, hiking, fishing and boating sites, stores, and restaurants.
We have 4 well spaced campsites complete with fire pit, picnic table and a couple of chairs ready for you at your campsite. Rent 1 or rent them all! Just bring your tent or your hammock! Your initial firewood . lighter, trash and recycling cans, and firestarters are brought to your site before you arrive.
Our "camp host" Tiller the big lovable doggo will patrol to scatter any trash pandas that might happen by. We keep track of him using GPS, so we know if He is hanging with you around the campfire. When his collar lights up and plays a tune, it's time for him to come home! Please send him on his way - thank you.

Message us when you are 30 minutes out, so we can you our tractor to help bring your things to your site. Same at check out. Just let us know 30 mins before you are ready to go and we will help you pack out! Sorry you will not be able to drive your vehicle to your site. This keeps the woods quiet for all of our guests. Each site is just a few hundred feet from the parking area.
The magical woods is located along the bridle trails behind our horse farm. Sorry, we do not offer trail rides as we have show horses. However you are welcome to arrange a visit to meet the animals when you arrive. We have horses, a miniature horse, a mule, miniature sheep and a very sweet goat named Hairy. There are about 50 chickens wandering the yard all day and we have 3 dogs and 3 cats that are always around. They are used to other dogs.
At night we have a lovely lullaby of owls, night birds, insects and frogs. Sometimes you can even hear sounds from the Illinois River and railway a miles away. Barges, trains (not many) tug boats, and the interesting sounds that come with them. Listen carefully, can you tell them apart?

Made for children, the park offers a lake for fishing, boat rentals, beach, swimming pools, game room, mini-golf, kids activities, and more. Air conditioning when it is cold, heat when it is hot, stay dry on a rainy day, inside bathroom. Is this really camping? It is more like Glamour Camping; Glamping. Only 45 minutes from Chicago, and 10 minutes to the Indiana Dunes State Park. This is a nice travel trailer that has two bunk beds in the rear, a dinette and couch that converts to sleepers, and a front bedroom with a queen size bed. Although you are on the lake, you do not have direct access to the lake. Parking is located on the grassy area across the road from the lot. You will have access to all the amenities of the park including use of the pools, beach, and park. Cost of the miniature golf course is not included. There is a restaurant at the park that serves fast food and deserts.

An outside, camper-mounted grill is included, which utilizes the onboard propane system. TV is included in the main sleeping area, the back area has 2 single bunks along with the middle area dinette, which also converts into a sleeping area. The full bathroom is in the rear of the camper, with the cooking area placed across from the dinette.
Site 2 hosts a 2020 Coleman Lantern 215BH Camper. It accommodates up to 6 people, but fits 4 most comfortably. Outside, the camper has an outdoor kitchen equipped with a mini fridge, a griddle, and a 2-burner cooktop which utilizes the onboard propane system. TV is included in the main sleeping area, the back area has 2 oversized bunks along with the middle area dinette, which also converts into a sleeping area. The full bathroom is in the rear of the camper, with the cooking area placed across from the dinette.
The outside area also features a full power awning with an LED light strip for additional lighting, and the camping space has a family-style picnic table.

The magical woods is located along the bridle trails behind our horse farm. Sorry, we do not offer trail rides as we have show horses. However you are welcome to arrange a visit to meet the animals when you arrive. We have horses, a miniature horse, a mule, miniature sheep and a very sweet goat named Hairy. There are about 50 chickens wandering the yard all day and we have 3 dogs and 3 cats that are always around. They are used to other dogs.
At night we have a lovely lullaby of owls, night birds, insects and frogs. Sometimes you can even hear sounds from the Illinois River and railway a miles away. Barges, trains (not many) tug boats, and the interesting sounds that come with them. Listen carefully, can you tell them apart?

Glamping at its best. This lot is at the highest point over looking the lake. This travel trailer sleeps 6. Made for children, the park offers a lake for fishing, boat rentals, beach, swimming pools, game room, mini-golf, kids activities, and more. Air conditioning when it is cold, heat when it is hot, stay dry on a rainy day, inside bathroom. Is this really camping? It is more like Glamour Camping; Glamping. Only 45 minutes from Chicago, and 10 minutes to the Indiana Dunes State Park. Site 2 hosts a 2020 Coleman Lantern 215BH Camper. It accommodates up to 6 people, but fits 4 most comfortably. Outside, the camper has an outdoor kitchen equipped with a mini fridge, a griddle, and a 2-burner cooktop which utilizes the onboard propane system. TV is included in the main sleeping area, the back area has 2 oversized bunks along with the middle area dinette, which also converts into a sleeping area. The full bathroom is in the rear of the camper, with the cooking area placed across from the dinette.
The outside area also features a full power awning with an LED light strip for additional lighting, and the camping space has a family-style picnic table.

I absolutely loved my stay at Willowthorne — it was truly an amazing experience. I spent two nights there and honestly didn’t want to leave. I was so comfortable and content that I seriously considered extending my stay.
Gosia was incredible. She took the time to talk me through the property, made sure I had wood and even kindly loaned me large pliers to fix my sink — which I really appreciated as a solo camper. I also loved chatting with her about the farm and learning more about how they care for the land and keep it as natural and pollutant-free as possible. You can really feel the intention and care that goes into this space.
I visited in early spring, and it was already beautiful. I can only imagine how breathtaking it must be in the summer when everything is in full bloom — I’m definitely planning to come back to experience that.
If you’re looking for a serene, scenic campsite that feels like a peaceful escape but is still close to the city, with genuinely wonderful hosts, Willowthorne is the place. I’ll absolutely be returning!

The site was pretty secluded, quite clean, and came with a chairs and a fire place with a cooking grill. My friend and I ended up getting our car stuck in the mud as we were trying to leave. Luckily, the owners brother was near the site and was able to quickly tow us out of the mud. I was expecting to have to call AAA, but fortunately did not have to thanks to the owners. I highly recommend this spot.

A fantastic stay with horses, water, birds, structure and lots of space to explores. A piece of little heaven. Love the beautiful stream going through the properties. We had a beautiful sunset. The herd of horses came by the bridge out to the field is so awesome! The freight train gone through the beautiful wooden bridge once at 9 pm was a nice highlight. It went slow and beautiful. We love train.

Site 1 was perfect. We had a couple nice days before the snowstorm hit to enjoy the trails and bonfire pit. We were there to winter camp so snow was a plus. Plenty of down limbs if run short on wood. Stores were close and bbr was easy to find. Recommend if you like privacy.

I had planned on only staying the first night, but it was so peaceful and the host so accommodating that I decided to stay another night. Mike was kind enough to spend some time with me telling me about the land in the history surrounding it, as well as a brief tour of the various gardens and small store where they have fresh honey, jams, etc. lovely place and will love to stay here in the spring to see everything growing!
