Michael and Kimberly Duke bought a small cabin on the Canoochee River to enjoy as a family. They decided to list it on a vacation rental site. As this property was in full demand, another property became available to buy. As interest began to increase, the family decided open up the options for their visitors. At this current date, they have four cabins and a yurt, as well as, tent sites. We are excited about the yurt that was completed in August 2019. They are looking forward having another cabin in the near future. Learn more about this land: Spend a few days in a yurt on the bank of the Canoochee River! Locate a few miles from a small town. Grocery store, gas station, and dollar store! Wake up to the music of the birds and sit on the deck as you enjoy the fresh air! Take in nature like it was meant to be.

Our beautiful unique property has been in the family for 3 generations. Over the years, our family along with artists, musicians, & writers have come here to refresh and get inspiration from nature. But with Hipcamp, we've opened up for others to enjoy. We have walking trails, a pond where you can kayak, relax on the dock, or feed the huge fish (sorry no fishing allowed.) Also, on our property, there are swings, a tree house deck, obstacle course, fire pit area, wooden bridge, picnic table, and abundant bird life. There's also plenty of wide-open space where you can play frisbee, run, do yoga, and stargaze at night. There's plenty to do in this area, using the farm as your base. Claxton, our hometown, is a great friendly, small-town with grocery and hardware stores and restaurants. Many guests like to side-trip over to the towns of Statesboro, Metter, Vidalia, and Savannah, plus the Golden Isles.

The Neature Preserve (formerly known as "Tabby's Trees") consists of 74 acres made up mostly of pine forest situated in the coastal plain. A creek runs along the western boundary of the property with an ephemeral (seasonal) wetland to the southwest. The overstory of the forest is dominated by loblolly and slash pine with a few longleaf pine sprinkled in, as well as turkey oak, live oak, laurel oak, and sweetgum. We have ~1.5 miles of trails that wind through a variety of ecosystems (trails can hiked or biked). The property has three primitive camping sites. Two of the sites are for tent camping only (where you would park your car along the hiking trail and then follow a separate path to get to the campsite), with one site that has enough space to park multiple cars or small camper right at the campsite. The Neature Preserve is all about restoring native habitat! Prescribed fire is used at The Preserve to safely and efficiently restore and maintain productive ecosystems and to support our native plant and animal species. Info about prescribed fire as well as other restoration practices and projects going on at The Neature Preserve can be found below. View more photos and learn more about the wildlife and plants that inhabit The Preserve as well as the habitat management plan on the "The Neature Preserve" Facebook page. Prescribed Fire: - The interior of the South Loop was burned for the first time (in recent history) on February 14, 2024 and again on April 17, 2025. - The interior of the North Loop, along with the similarly sized unit just east of the North Loop, was last burned April 11, 2023 Timber Management: - Future plans include a timber thinning to reduce canopy density, clear cutting some sections to be replanted in longleaf pine. Wetland/Bog Restoration: - Currently in progress: 1) Canopy and midstory reduction (cut, pile, and burn) to support native, understory species 2) Planting rare species, such as pitcher plants, to help improve their population size and genetic diversity

My cousin loved to fish and purchased 100 acres of land here 50 years ago. I wound up with this part of the property which is now surrounded by Big Hammock wildlife management area. For the past 47 years I’ve gone here to enjoy the river. The Ohoopee river splits here on the opposite bank and forms a 100 acre island before flowing into the nearby Altamaha river. Usually the river flow slows and kayaking around the island is pretty easy. There is a lot of wildlife to see here with white tail deer, turkey, waterfowl, beavers, otters, feral hogs and predators. The island is a favorite roost for every species of birds. During dry periods, the Ohoopee river water gets very clear with visibility greater than 6’ at times. Learn more about this land: Kayaking in the river, fishing, laying on the beach, wildlife viewing in this quiet setting where the Ohoopee river splits apart around a 100 acre island right before running into the Altamaha river.
