This creek property was probably used by the Creek and then the Cherokee as a campsite because of the abundant water and wild life. Later is was farm land and in the 1920's had approximately fifty mules working the land. The Old barn and blacksmith shop are still here. In 1977 the government planned to put a four lane toll road through here but was stopped by the oil embargo which caused the right of way to be auctioned. We were able to buy 200 acres for a small amount of money and have been raising cattle and camping on it every since that time. As a Scout Master I have been using this site for camping for the past 15 years. Time to let others enjoy.

It is about 8 feet deep in center going to about 4' at sides and 20 feet long. Big stone grill is provided as well as large fire pit. Kindling and firewood is provided. ten minute walk to the main house for potable water and other needs. 37 acre farm with hills and a wide variety of wildlife and plants to inspect. Camp is in rural area couple hundred yards off county road but secluded. Plenty of deer, turkey, geese, wild ducks, beaver and other wild life in the area.
A secondary campsite is provided down the creek with area for tent near creek. Fire pit and firewood is provided.

The property features a 1 1/2 acre pond stocked with catfish and bream and has a nice little dock with a table and chairs to sit and enjoy the water.
There are animals! I have a beloved Scottish Highland cow named Genia and she is joined with two mini bulls and two mini cows. Various numbers of Nigerian Dwarf goats join them in the pasture. There are also a few chickens.
Small garden beds and a fruit orchard are on the property and I usually have at least a half dozen projects of one sort or another going on.
Several acres are wooded and there is ample space for a nature trail that I try to keep maintained. Several of the usual types wildlife can be seen.
Are you an artist or a writer? This is a great place for comtemplation and inspiration. I myself have 40 years experience as an art teacher and professor. If you would like to have a mini workshop, let me help.

Guest access
Folklore Forest is on 3 acres and has 270 feet of River Frontage at your disposal. Little River is considered to be the purest, natural flowing river in the state. Bring your fishing gear and kayaks. Sit on the rocks at the base of the waterfall under the rhododendrons and holly trees, and wade in the water in the warm months.
Park on the side of the road in front of the Cynefin sign. There are solar lights illuminating the path to the tent if you arrive after dark. There you will find a that you can use to bring your luggage down.
Other things to note
• The river will rise and fall depending on how much rain we are getting. It tends to be lower late summer to early fall. We cannot guarantee water levels.
• This is primitive off grid camping. There's no electricity or running water. We recommend bringing a portable battery pack to charge devices.
• Please be respectful of any wildlife (there are white tail deer, raccoons, weasels, harmless black snakes, mink, foxes, coyotes, many birds, and the extremely, and we do mean extremely, rare black bear), while fishing in the little river is allowed, hunting is prohibited.

What majestic views of our beautiful north Alabama!!! Danny was very kind tocut the foliage back so we could fully enjoy the view during our entire stay. The campsite was very clean. No debris of any kind. The wood and water were handy as well. Our site was private but we felt safe despite to roaring lions from the local tiger sanctuary 😂 It was fun to hear them ! We will be back!

We had a wonderful camping trip here. The campsite was spacious and well away from the rest of the park, with plenty of tent sites to choose from. We had immediate access to the water, enjoying lovely sunset views of the lake. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall we had a peaceful and beautiful time!

There are a few homes around, but they are pretty much obscured by tall bushes and trees, so it felt pretty secluded to me… there is some road noise BUT… not very loud and it’s far enough off in the distance, that it did not disturb me at all. I did manage to see a doe and her yearling, late evening, crossing the pasture, via the wood line. There were quite a few limbs that have fallen from some oak trees …nowhere near the actual area where you would pitch your tent or park your RV or camper. Brad was gracious enough to let me use those limbs plus, some wood he had cut earlier, for my campfire. There are no designated fire rings or areas to set up a campfire but… as long as you bring your own fire ring or fire basket, like I did, Brad said it was OK to have a campfire. I will definitely be back !

This spot is great for someone looking for private car camping! My wife and I had the plot to ourselves for a night, and besides some traffic noise as it is off of a main road, it was peaceful. We both highly recommend staying here, and we plan to be back.

Fully enjoyed the Stattanooga camp site on Lake Weiss! Hot summer weather may have kept the lakeside extra quiet ... but even with more lake activity, the site would win extra stars! Super clean, super easy to find, super easy to set up, and super easy to enjoy!

I really really enjoyed tent camping at River Ranch! The land is beautiful. There are a few trails that you can walk along the river and see the wildlife. Doni and Laiza ,were very responsive to any questions that I had during my stay and made suggestions on where to walk and what to look out for as far as wildlife. My experience was a 10 out of 10! I will definitely be back soon.

The river right next to the site was so nice. It was great to have the deck and the covered area that we used as a camp kitchen. We put up two tents around the fire ring and had plenty of room. Access to the river is direct and easy. There was an area the dogs were able to use to get in and out as well. It wasn’t muddy and we didn't have any trouble getting to the site in our 2wd trucks. The provided directions were very clear and easy to follow. The neighbors do have a driveway that passes near the site, but they weren't disruptive or traveling in and out after quiet hours.
