Weekend Trip to Lucky U Ranch

What a cool little farm! Rob & Mike have an awesome setup on their farm - from the private camp sites to the outdoor shower/bathroom setup they’ve thought of all the small details. Although I was only here for a day, I’d definitely come back for longer next time I’m back in the area. For a first time Hip-Camper they’ve set the bar for what a stay should be. Hands down better than camping on top of others at an RV park or even some cramped state/national parks. Highly recommend!

Great area! The restrooms and showers were well kept and clean and the experience was awesome! Highly recommend and will probably be back, the horses were very friendly!

This was my second trip here with my granddaughter this year. We absolutely love it here. We just love the idea of camping with free roaming horses and donkeys. My granddaughter spends most of the day walking around with them and feeding them apples and carrots. We also really enjoyed hiking the trails. We love taking the tour of the ranch to see all the other animals and hold the baby goats. The campsites and the property have always been well maintained and beautiful. The bathrooms and showers are always clean and you always have hot water. The whole experience that Lucky U provides is simply amazing! The hosts Rob and Mike are the best! They have a genuine love for their animals, property, and people. They provide awesome service and are very accommodating. We are already planning another trip for the summer!

Rob and Mike have a jewel in the crown. Their place is well thought out and the bonus of the horses and donkeys having breakfast with us was wonderful! The showers and coffee bar (an added bonus) are spotless. We will be back again.

We can’t express enough how lovely this ranch is , a beautiful area to camp with hot showers , and some of the best landscapes to wake up too. Rob & Mike are such pleasant people and made sure we were all set and happy through the stay. We also loved that they offer a weekly ranch tour and show you all the animals and even baby goats ! Probably one of the best “campgrounds” I have stayed at yet. We don’t even consider this a campground because there’s so much space between camps it’s truly such a peaceful space to spend time away. All of the springs , beaches and places to explore are within an hour to hour and a half including a 5 minute drive to the local river boat launch. My only advice to anyone staying is a little bug spray and keep your camps tidy and it’s truly a 10/10 place to stay. We are already planning our trip back to magnolia hill and can’t wait to see Rob & Mike again. If you’re thinking about a stay here , go ahead and book it you truly won’t be disappointed.

Rob & Mike are excellent hosts and offer a very peaceful camping experience. They have provided many extra’s and special touches for their guests. Getting to tour their ranch and visit with goats was a highlight for us. Not to mention being visited by donkeys and horses while enjoying morning coffee. We would definitely camp here again and highly recommend to our friends & family.

Rob and Mike were excellent hosts. They helped this first time rver set up camp. In the morning we were greeted by horses 🐎 and later toured the ranch. The animal experience was unlike any other. The land is serene and beautiful. We will definitely be back.

This was our first time using hipcamp and it was an incredible experience. Rob and Mike were so hospitable from the fully stocked showers to the farm fresh eggs in the morning. You must go on the ranch tour, their property and animals were truly something special. We will be back again and again. Such a quaint magical land! 💚🏕️✨

My pup and I enjoyed our stay there. It was such an amazing experience to be sitting at my campsite and see a horse walk up to us. Then two others followed. Later, after our walk on the nature trail, seven donkeys came over to say Hi. Mike and Rob are very good hosts, quite welcoming. Their animals and the place are well cared for. The campsites are clean and well spaced out. I definitely recommend this place and would like to visit again.

We had a wonderful time at Lucky U Ranch, the beautiful land and peaceful nature were a great escape from the city life. Rob and Mike are wonderful hosts and were very helpful with anything we needed. The amenities are nice and everything you could need.

We absolutely loved our time there! It was quiet and interacting with the horses and donkeys at your site was awesome. The camper had everything we needed and I used the coffee bar area in the morning even though there was a coffee maker in the camper. It was nice just sitting around hearing the animal noises, especially the donkeys! I also did the walking trails in the woods and then took a break on a tree swing. It was very relaxing. Rob & Mike were excellent hosts and definitely, get a tour of the ranch, it was well worth it! ~Sharon

This has been one of our BEST camping experiences in the country! We wanted a peaceful camping getaway while paddling nearby springs (Weekie Wachie, Crystal River, Kings Bay, Rainbow Springs) and we could not have asked for a better experience. Rob and Mike made us feel right at home. Their property is incredible.. endless space, beautiful trails, wondeful oaks... and... the pristine bathouse (restoring and refreshing hot showers!!!! 🥳🥳🥳), sink and coffee amenities are an absolute plus. Beyond that, we got to interact with the farm animals (friendliest donkeys ever, horses and the cutest goats.. we loved baby Blondie!!) We are already planning our next visit and highly recommend a few nights at this marvelous ranch. ✨️

First time using Hipcamp and first time taking out our pop up camper, and we were NOT disappointed! We were met at the gate and shown to our campsite and Mike helped us level our camper and showed us around. The bathroom area is SO cute and well equipped (showers were HOT and everything was provided which is an added bonus if you forget to bring anything! We enjoyed the property and our pups loved the trails through the woods. Highlight was having horses and donkeys come to our campsite to say hello, it was AMAZING. We will definitely go to the farm tour next time and leave the dogs behind! Was such a great first experience and we are already talking about coming back. Thanks so much Rob and Mike!!

We enjoyed everything about camping on Rob and Mike’s property. The ranch is really a unique place. I love the animals Roming about freely. And the ranch tour was awesome also. Rob is and Mike are extremely friendly and they go above and beyond to make sure that everyone is comfortable. The bathrooms and showers are well taken And extremely clean. I would definitely recommend this to a friend and hope to get there again myself sometime.

This place is wonderful! I loved how secluded it was and all the sites are spaced out appropriately. The outdoor bathroom and shower area was great, very clean and who doesn’t love a hot shower?! I got to enjoy the noises of nature at night and be greeted by adorable donkeys and horses in the morning! That was the real treat! Thank you for this amazing stay and the tour of the farm! I loved seeing all the goats, especially the baby ones! Oh and I can’t forget Bear, the dog. He deserves a shoutout for how sweet and adorable he is! We had a group of 30 for our daughter's sweet 16th birthday and it was perfect! The kids explored the property, swam, kayaked and fished.

First and foremost Mike and Rob are some of the kindest, most helpful people I’ve met!. Upon arrival they checked in on us to see if we needed help with the RV, they offered a tour of their farm to us on Friday (normally only do it on Saturdays) because our grandson was going to be there. We stayed here a year ago and since then they’ve made some very nice up grades to include a both on with a changing table and propane grills at the sight. The only downside is we had only booked 2 nights and could have stayed much longer but for some reason God opted to not make me a millionaire so off to work I go 🤣

Overview

Plant City is a small Central Florida town famous for its annual Florida Strawberry Festival held in March. But with proximity to diverse parks, natural springs, river rapids, and even beaches, there are reasons to visit Plant City year-round. Situated between Tampa Bay and Lakeland, Plant City is characterized by rolling hills, lakes, farms, and oak trees draped in Spanish moss, with numerous ranches offering horseback riding, plus some of Florida’s best mountain biking trails at nearby Alafia River State Park.

Where to go

Alafia River State Park

Alafia River State Park, about 30 minutes south of Plant City, is a forest and flatwood preserve on a former phosphate mine with hills, climbs, and descents that break from the typical Florida flatlands. That’s why the International Mountain Biking Association built a trail system here, making the park one one of the most popular mountain biking sites in the state. The park campground even has a full-service bike shop with rentals, in addition to fire rings, picnic tables, and water and electric hookups. Hikers and horseback riders can also enjoy the landscape on over 20 miles of trails.

Lithia Springs Park

Also 30 minutes from Plant City, Lithia Springs Park is a county-run park where visitors can take a dip in a crystal-clear, 72-degree pool fed by a natural spring. The park has a campground as well as day-use access.

Hillsborough River State Park

Just north of Plant City lies the Hillsborough River State Park, one of the only places in Florida with Class II river rapids. Kayak rentals are available on-site, as are seven miles of hiking trails and a campground.

Tampa Beaches

The gulf coast beaches of Tampa Bay are about an hour west of Plant City. For excellent day trips on the waterfront, check out Clearwater Beach, Honeymoon Island State Park, or Fort De Soto Park.

When to go

Book early if you’re planning a visit that overlaps with the 11-day long Florida Strawberry Festival here in March. Otherwise, Plant City is delightfully uncrowded for the rest of the year. The winter weather in Plant City is mild and pleasant, while summers tend to run hot and humid. Summer campers may be most comfortable in lodging with a fan or AC from June to August. Rain is possible year-round, but the summer season tends to bring heavy afternoon showers.
