The farm you’re camping on is one of the last family farms remaining in Columbia County and is named Glenn Farm after DV Glenn who married Hettie Lou Niblack in the 1930’s. Over the last 150 years it has been farmed by some of the county’s oldest families such as the Niblack and Ellis families. When DV Glenn came to Florida from his farm in Cairo, GA he took over the portion of the Niblack farm that was inherited by his wife Hettie Lou. At that time he was running native Florida cattle on over 6000 acres. Unfortunately, In 1951 he was killed in a hunting accident leaving his wife with the farm and 4 children (ages 4-11). In order to survive, Hettie Lou Niblack Glenn was forced to sell 5000 acres at $25 an acre. Holding a bachelors degree from Florida State College for Women, she was able to secure a job at the University of Florida as a secretary and with the money from the land sale she was able to raise her four children. Of the original farm, 600 acres remain intact and the Glenn family is trying to keep the farm as an agricultural operation. Your campsite is 1 of 4 spots (Arrowhead Sink, Dunagan’s Meadow, North Hall Pasture or Magnolia Sink). We also have a 1 bedroom Tiny home that used to be the farm office. Dunagan’s meadow is a pasture behind the old farmhouse (built in 1824), Magnolia sink and The North Hall Pasture are also on the main farm while Arrowhead Sink is on the edge of a hayfield about a mile down a dirt road. Glenn Farm is a place to come relax and experience a world that is rapidly disappearing. It is not a commercial campground.

We tried to book a last minute springs trip with our family. We fell upon Oaken River because the state parks were full. I am soooo glad of that. Oaken River is such a gem. It is so well taken care of and loved. The owners showed up around the campground, made sure we had everything we needed and truly went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. After seeing all of the potential camping site that Oaken River will have in the near future we will surely be back and bring our whole family. What a beautiful weekend with great hosts! Weekend Trip to Oaken River

We have had a wonderful time camping here. The new owner proudly showed us all his new projects for this beautiful unique spot on the Suwannee River. He and his wife are creatively adding glamping sites and cottage. The RV sites and tent sites are sheltered by beautiful oaks. The property has several ancient oak trees and the beach on the river is one of a kind. The farm animals are a cool bonus. We will be back. Stephanie, Andre and family were very kind and hospitable.

The site was excellent, well maintained and a perfect stay on the outskirts of Gainesville. It was quiet, clean and peaceful. I met the hosts who were friendly and ensured I had everything I needed. I was fortunate to have the camp to myself for the night. Bathroom was clean, shower was hot. I will return and hope to have company around the fire next time, but this time, the quiet time around the fire was just what I needed.

My "go-to" camping spot whenever I am in Gainesville. Private, quiet, spacious, close to nature, the downtown, and UF. My third stay. I had to modify this reservation. Betsy was prompt with her communication before arrival and during my stay. Appreciate the convenience of a FHU and opportunity to recycle and compost. Noticed improvements to gravel pad and fencing! As always, greeted with a 6-pack of beer from First Magnitude. I took advantage of the electric scooters available for campers. Scooted to a Wildflowers Yoga class, explored the Gainesville-Hawthorne trail, visited The Lynx Bookstore, and enjoyed my meal at Humble Wood Fire Pizza. Checkout Depot Park and Heartwood Soundstage. Will be back in the fall!

What a beautiful place they put together! We’ve been all over with our RV and this is one of the best places we’ve stayed in! It’s so peaceful and quiet, easily accessible, super clean and level! The bath house is a great extra! For a small fee we were able to shower and use a real toilet. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the fire pit and lights at night make you truly appreciate what you went on your journey for!! Thank you Neal’s nest for sharing it with our family!

Neil‘s nest has a very nice small campground. She has three sites that are full hook up and very convenient. We really enjoyed our stay and if you go there, you will see that she puts a lot of effort and making this campground and enjoyable family friendly place. she has all the commodities of a large campground with the exception to a swimming pool. She does not have that but otherwise I would highly recommend there and we would stay there again.
