The site is located 150 ft from the dock on our private residential property at the head of the springs, the dock is not visible from the site you do have to walk down to the dock area. Our RV and Tent Campsites are located in a grassy field next to dense woods. Electric and water hookups are included in the RV/Camper sites, but not the Tent Site. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Our newly renovated restrooms on the property have toilets and one shower. A boardwalk takes you along the Cotee River to our two open air pavilions with several places to sit and enjoy nature. Cell phone service is not a problem, as we are not remote (although it sort of feels like we are when you are here) - we are 5 min from downtown New Port Richey, 2 minutes from groceries, gas, restaurants.
This beautiful slice of Old Florida is named for the Pithlachascotee River that bends along the back side of the property. Pithlo is the Creek word meaning canoe, and chaskita means to dig or chop out, together signifying "place where canoes are chopped or dug out". Seminoles of this area used canoes dug out from the great cypress trees found along Florida rivers.
From the 1980s until 2014, this property was owned by the Cotee River Lions Club. They held a popular monthly pancake breakfast fundraiser in the large pavilion along the river. We purchased this 4.9 acres of land in late 2019. It is now where we live and have a woodworking shop. It has been a magical place for us, with no shortage of wildlife, rich jungle forest, a winding narrow river, and even the occasion river otter sighting.
We are grateful to all the humans who have occupied this place over the centuries before us for keeping it as nature intended it. It is our intention to do our part to conserve and protect its natural beauty as long as possible. We hope you find it to be as restful and rejuvenating as we do.

This is a working farm so expect to see horses, chickens, pigs, and our farm dog during your stay. Be sure to bring your farm shoes!
Your Hosts live onsite and are flexible to hang out and suggest activities if requested, but also happy to just show you around and then leave you to enjoy your stay in solitude.
Note that we offer three total Hipcamp sites, so you may see other travelers in common areas or in passing on the property during your stay.

We welcome self-contained travelers in camper vans, trucks, trailers, and RVs up to 35 feet in length.
Potable water is available. We don’t have a kitchen but you are welcome to cook on the grill over the firepit. You can also spread out during meals on the provided picnic table.

Campfires are allowed, and some wood is provided during your stay to get you started. Please fully extinguish fires after use, and always follow county restrictions if there is a fire ban due to dry weather.

Our RV and Tent Campsites are located in a grassy field next to dense woods. Electric and water hookups are included in the RV/Camper sites, but not the Tent Site. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Our newly renovated restrooms on the property have toilets and one shower. A boardwalk takes you along the Cotee River to our two open air pavilions with several places to sit and enjoy nature. Cell phone service is not a problem, as we are not remote (although it sort of feels like we are when you are here) - we are 5 min from downtown New Port Richey, 2 minutes from groceries, gas, restaurants.
This beautiful slice of Old Florida is named for the Pithlachascotee River that bends along the back side of the property. Pithlo is the Creek word meaning canoe, and chaskita means to dig or chop out, together signifying "place where canoes are chopped or dug out". Seminoles of this area used canoes dug out from the great cypress trees found along Florida rivers.
From the 1980s until 2014, this property was owned by the Cotee River Lions Club. They held a popular monthly pancake breakfast fundraiser in the large pavilion along the river. We purchased this 4.9 acres of land in late 2019. It is now where we live and have a woodworking shop. It has been a magical place for us, with no shortage of wildlife, rich jungle forest, a winding narrow river, and even the occasion river otter sighting.
We are grateful to all the humans who have occupied this place over the centuries before us for keeping it as nature intended it. It is our intention to do our part to conserve and protect its natural beauty as long as possible. We hope you find it to be as restful and rejuvenating as we do.

Launch your boat at a nearby public ramp and dock it in the water at our property. Keep the trailer in the driveway. Kayaks are available at no extra charge and can be launched from our property. This is a working farm so expect to see horses, chickens, pigs, and our farm dog during your stay. Be sure to bring your farm shoes!
Your Hosts live onsite and are flexible to hang out and suggest activities if requested, but also happy to just show you around and then leave you to enjoy your stay in solitude.
Note that we offer three total Hipcamp sites, so you may see other travelers in common areas or in passing on the property during your stay.
About the listing
We welcome self-contained travelers in camper vans, trucks, trailers, and RVs up to 35 feet in length.
Potable water is available. We don’t have a kitchen but you are welcome to cook on the grill over the firepit. You can also spread out during meals on the provided picnic table.
Enjoy the hot outdoor shower during your stay. If you’ve never showered under the stars, this is your chance!
Campfires are allowed, and some wood is provided during your stay to get you started. Please fully extinguish fires after use, and always follow county restrictions if there is a fire ban due to dry weather.

What a lovely place! The camping area is lawn, with hook ups, a picnic table, and fire pit. There are well-kept trails and a boardwalk to a secluded pavilion by the river. Hang out there in the morning and evening to listen for birds, including owls. The scenery is beautiful trees and palmettos, and the greenery is lush. The road is nearby, but it is not loud. The bathrooms are clean and well-kept.

We had an amazing weekend at this Hipcamp. Kate was the absolute best—super communicative and helpful from start to finish. The site was exactly as expected: private, jungle-like, and a great place to unwind. We had fun exploring the property and finding Pepper Trail, which was a nice bonus.
The highlight of the trip was kayaking with the manatees—an unforgettable experience.
One note for RVers: if your rig (or Travel Trailer) is longer than 25 feet, you may need to back in from the road. Our truck couldn’t quite make the turn, but backing in was easy and not an issue at all.
Overall, a fantastic stay. We’d absolutely come back again.

Mike’s spot on the eastern end of the canal was just perfect for us. We took our kayaks out and saw monkeys, an otter, and a dolphin out in the Homosassa River! Good places to walk the dogs and great seafood nearby. We loved sitting by the canal to catch the sunset. We hardly saw any other people But that may be because it was COLD while we were there in the middle of January. The wind chimes made the vibe super chill. We hope to be back sometime. Note that travel trailers over ~20 ft will fit but your towing vehicle may stick out into the road. There seems to be plenty of space to park your vehicle to the side but check with the host, he is good to communicate. Thanks for a memorable stay!

The hosts created a peaceful HipCamp experience. The site was level and fairly secluded. We had access to the dock where I was able to have my morning coffee and just chill. The site is just minutes away from the State Park with Manatee viewings and a nice walking trail. There are also several bike trails all within 30 minutes (would recommend the Withlacoochee Trail just north of Crystal Springs - paved with areas to stop and picnic).

We couldn’t recommend this spot more! Such a hidden gem of a location, right in the spring with manatees just outside the launch point. The host is very responsive and everything in the listing was accurate. We have a 30ft travel trailer and it took us a bit to get turned around in the driveway, but honestly we’ve done worse. Just take your time with it and you’ll be fine. Everything was perfect, we can’t wait to come back. Love that a fire pit and wood is available for a fee, hopefully we can use it next time when there’s no fire ban going on. Thank you for sharing your incredible property with us!!

Great Setting, Full Hookup, Beautiful Dock Area. Host sent very detailed message about the location, rules, & amenities they provided which were greatly appreciated. Location is close to activities & restaurants in Homosassa Springs. Lots of nice details set up at the site like the picnic table, fire pit, lighting, seating on the deck, etc. that made it a very nice stay. Weather got very cold so we were not able to enjoy the dock as much as we would have.

This is an oasis in the midst of sprawling county growing city. Take a break and capture this beautiful property where trees and river meet lush private camp sites. And the bathroom with shower is a great addition. Beautiful wooden walkways to the river with grand pavilion's and places to sit and relax. The owners are onsite and accommodation. Very clean. Not a single bug or ant (December but still… Florida) and close to many places to visit or eat. Highly Recommend!

It was definitely primitive but the motion lights, fire ring, and grill made things easy. We absolutely love it out there. Sound of fish splashing, birds swooping from trees hitting the water or land and coming up with fish and other prey, and the cool breeze is all we heard and loved it. We will definitely have a boat next time as kayaking in and out to go places was more workout than we anticipated. 10/10, will be back!
