Heart of the Country is our home and also your own personal twelve acre state park whenever you stay with us! We are less than 15 minutes from Interstate 10 and from Interstate 65. I offer a half-dozen campsites, all either on a relatively level paved driveway or grass. Power (20 amp and 30 amp) and water is available. We have two 30 amp campsites, which are first come, first served. WIFI is available! (please ask for password). We have a portable toilet for your use. This is a Longleaf Pine sanctuary with lots of nature trails. This is also a hobby farm with livestock (Donkey, two Goats, a Duck and a flock of Chickens). I feed the livestock grain every morning usually between 8 and 9 am, and again hay before dusk. You are always welcome to join me and I'll introduce all of them to you! My dog, Homer, is our very friendly welcoming ambassador who will enthusiastically great you upon your arrival. I put him up in his kennel each evening around dusk, then lock him in his shed until morning which keeps him from backing during the night. We also host an AirBnB, so other guests may be here as well. Texting via the app is our preferred mode of communication. If you call, please leave a message if I can't answer, and I will call you back. We are slowly updating the site photos. Use them only to determine your price, for example: A site with 30 amp power and water is $25 per night. A site with 20 amp power and water is $20 per night. A boondocking site (no power) is $15 per night. All sites have access to a porta-potty and water. Suggested local attraction: Blakeley State Historic Park is four miles away.

The land uses were favorable for cattle grazing and turpentining through the 1800s. Many more pioneer families moved into the area and began their own business in the booming industrial opportunities of western Florida. It came to be known as Yellow River Marsh State Buffer Preserve on June 12, 2000, when it was purchased by the state of Florida to protect rare and environmentally sensitive lands, plants and animals. Through generous donations, Preservation 2000 and the Florida Forever Program, more land was added to protect contiguous habitat of the Garcon Ecosystem. Today Yellow River Marsh Preserve State Park provides recreational opportunities for hiking and nature study along the Great Florida Birding Trail among rare and endemic plant species and within one of Florida’s oldest multi-cultural frontiers.The preserve is located in Santa Rosa County on Garcon Point, which separates Escambia Bay from Blackwater Bay. This is a Longleaf Pine sanctuary with lots of nature trails. This is also a hobby farm with livestock (Donkey, two Goats, a Duck and a flock of Chickens). I feed the livestock grain every morning usually between 8 and 9 am, and again hay before dusk. You are always welcome to join me and I'll introduce all of them to you! My dog, Homer, is our very friendly welcoming ambassador who will enthusiastically great you upon your arrival. I put him up in his kennel each evening around dusk, then lock him in his shed until morning which keeps him from backing during the night. We also host an AirBnB, so other guests may be here as well. Texting via the app is our preferred mode of communication. If you call, please leave a message if I can't answer, and I will call you back. We are slowly updating the site photos. Large parking lot but watch for low power lines. Beach Cruiser Bicycle repair and gas motorized bicycle repair and sales. Have bicycle tires tubes and many bicycle parts in stock! I only have 1 site renting, the parking lot is never crowded with other vehicles. Great place to park, no detours off of HWY 29, just pull in and pull out, circular drive and parking lot.  Direct access to other Highways like Hwy 65. No alcohol at this campsite, serenity. We tent camped for 3 weeks in November and Dave was extremely accommodating for our 3 week stay in November. Don't skip the hot tub! For van lifer types this is an ideal location. Good cell reception and a quiet atmosphere. There were extremely few insects and the sunset over Mobile each night is a brilliant orange. We used the YMCA Express in Spanish Fort for showers, gym, infrared sauna, and as a coffeeshop. it has a table area with outlets for laptops. The day pass there is $10.

Malakai’s Campground is truly a hidden gem! The property is peaceful, secure, and beautifully maintained. Joe, the host, is a wonderful man—kind, hospitable, and always willing to lend a hand. You can tell he genuinely cares about making sure every guest has a great experience. I’m a local and ended up staying here two weekends in a row while my house was being used for Airbnb guests. Normally, I’d travel elsewhere, but this time I wanted to stay close to home—and I’m so glad I did. From now on, this will be my go-to spot whenever I want to unwind and enjoy something different from the usual beach life. Highly recommend this campground for a relaxing, memorable stay—and my two pups 🐶🐶 give it their full approval too!

Weekend Trip to Bay Forest Retreat
The campground was beautiful! The facilities were clean and all trail paths were trimmed with no debris! They had plenty of fire would for sale and a cart to use to carry your camping gear into your site! The bridge was a little tricky to maneuver with your cart but after a couple trips we figured out how to make it work with the cart! Fortunately, we were the only campers in the primitive and glamper tent site but the 5 glamper and primitive sites seem too close together and would maybe be too much if all are fully booked and especially with all the open land they have that could be used to spread the sites out a little more so people have more privacy. The hosts were great and very attentive! Will certainly go back again soon!!!
