Lush rolling terrain and wide slow creeks are trademarks of the De Soto National Forest. So are kickin’ it in a canoe with a brew while you float down the river, we suggest exploring both! The swamplands here offer ample opportunity for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing on the Black Creek National Scenic River. The primitive camping along the way is hot in the summer, but prime for misty morning photography and inky orange sunsets...worth it! Off-road the Rattlesnake Bay Trail or hike the Tuxachanie trail with your crew for a day of laughs deep in the pines. You can pretty much camp forever here too, so pack up a week or two worth of gear, and really dig deep into what Desoto has to offer.

Heart of the Country is our home and also your own personal twelve acre state park whenever you stay with us! We are less than 15 minutes from Interstate 10 and from Interstate 65. I offer a half-dozen campsites, all either on a relatively level paved driveway or grass. Power (20 amp and 30 amp) and water is available. We have two 30 amp campsites, which are first come, first served. WIFI is available! (please ask for password). We have a portable toilet (portable-potty) for your use. This is a Longleaf Pine sanctuary with lots of nature trails. This is also a hobby farm with livestock (two Donkeys, two Goats and a flock of Chickens). I feed the livestock grain every morning usually between 8 and 9 am, and again hay before dusk. You are always welcome to join me and I'll introduce all of them to you! My dog, Homer, is our very friendly welcoming ambassador who will enthusiastically great you upon your arrival. I put him up in his kennel each evening around dusk, then lock him in his shed until morning which keeps him from barking during the night. We also host three AirBnBs, so other guests may be here as well. Texting via the app is our preferred mode of communication. If you call, please leave a message if I can't answer, and I will call you back. We are slowly updating the site photos. Use them only to determine your price, for example: A site with 30 amp power and water is $25 per night. A site with 20 amp power and water is $20 per night. A boondocking site (no power) is $15 per night. All sites have access to a porta-potty and water. Suggested local attraction: Blakeley State Historic Park is four miles away.

Welcome to Soultribe! A new community-in-the-making in the heart of the sweet south of Mchenry, MS - only 24 miles from the white sandy beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast (the world’s longest man-made beach)! We bought this property in April 2025 after working hard and long on a decade-long dream come true! It’s a fully wooded, 4 acre L-shaped property, currently home to three residents - myself, my mate, and my daughter. Every day we are working hard to cut pathways and new campsites for visitors, travelers, and potential community members. We are now hosting events, classes, and workshops; soon-to-be retreats and festivals. We are still in the earliest stages of building, so it’s a very rustic, off-grid experience. With more visitors, we plan to build cabins and install solar and water collection systems, so we can have outdoor showers, natural pools, outhouses, community areas, a retreat center, and shops for community members to run their businesses from. We are following food forest and permaculture methods instead of traditional gardening, and our long-term vision for this land is a new garden of Eden! We need all the help we can get, so we also offer volunteer trade opportunities to anyone interested. Or, if you just need a place to step back from the busy hub of society, ground and reconnect with nature, Soultribe is the sanctuary for you! You may utilize the little spaces we currently have available for camping, or get in touch with your primal nature, explore our woods and cut down your own trail and campsite. We will be present to assist in any way, open to sharing and communal activities - or we can offer you solitude and privacy during your trip… it’s entirely up to you! Come create heaven with us… send your booking inquiry today!
