Best catfishing in the state. No fishing license is required. Just start fishing. Borders Big Black civil war battlefield. Pets are family and always welcome. Off leash is fantastic as long as your good with it. Lots of room to run. Jon boats with motors, Kayaks and ATV's always ok. Large stretches of sand bars when water permits. Not far from I-20. Great cell reception. Good restaurant down the road in Bovina. Loves truck stop just down the road. The existing road going in "Vickors Rd" can be bumpy, dusty, wet and may hold pools of water at times but the road itself is solid and will support the heaviest of vehicles.

Camp Strong Wood derives its name from the many natural growth oak trees found on the property as well as being in the Strong Hope community. Wildlife abounds with deer, rabbit, squirrel, fox, racoon, opossum, armadillo, chipmunk among other forest dwellers. The lake is in a natural flood bottom and is stocked with largemouth bass, perch, channel catfish and natural flathead catfish which came in through the creek which runs through the land. 77 acres of rolling hills along the headwaters of Haley's Creek with a 1 m waterfall into a 4-ft deep pool and beautiful hardwood and pine forest all around. A Rustic road courses along with the creek and several offshoots for mountain biking or hiking. The waterfall and pool are a 1/2 mile hike into the property on the primitive road. Gravel is only provided at the entrance area, encircling the metal shed. Any driving off the gravel runs a risk of getting stuck in the slippery clay/mud. Rainwater barrels and 110 electricity are available at the metal shed. See dozens of tree species old and young along the creek and wildlife including turkeys, deer, bobcat, raccoons, possums, hawks, rabbits etc.

I went tent camping on Vincent’s land. The hike through the stream to the waterfall was beautiful. There’s plenty of space to setup, power available and an outdoor covered pavilion behind the metal building. The noise from the road and railroad is noticeable, but the convenience of the site balances that out. You can take a short, easy hike into to the woods to get away from it all.

It was actually very quiet at night and in the morning (didn’t get woken up by any of the animals) and I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t smell like a ranch lol. Loved our stay! Took my son tent camping and thoroughly enjoyed the campground. Jon is an amazing host and made sure our stay was top notch. The sites were clean, well taken care of and the scenery was fantastic. We didn’t pack any fishing gear on this trip, but we will definitely remember to pack it the next time we visit. I highly recommend this campground to anyone who wants a nice, peaceful camping experience.

Austin has such a wonderful space! Upon arrival he greeted us and gave us a tour of the barn and animal stables. The ranch was easy to find and has a spacious driveway suitable for car camping. There are also several tent sites available, one of which was under a covered area with lights and an outdoor space heater. Bathrooms were inside with flushing toilets, heat, and lights- a camping luxury to us. We couldn't have been more grateful for the roof and made it through a rough storm shacked up with the incredibly friendly animals. Pet friendly, our 60lb dog had just as much fun looking at the animals as we did. We are looking forward to another stay if we're ever in the area.

The property is well designed and tucked away from the world. A lake to fish from, a pool, a pavilion, 2 dog parks, a store. I just started my RV journey and have been to a few spots. This place exceeded my expectations. A must stop in Mississippi, along the I-20.

Overview

About

The hilly setting for this park marks the scene of a bloody siege in 1863. Lasting for 47 days, the Battle of Vicksburg was the turning point for the Civil War. The park stretches across 1,800 acres and holds an astonishing 1,300 plus monuments.

Start your visit at the visitors' center by watching the 20-minute film and studying the map display. Take a self-guided car tour calling a cell phone number at each stop to get information. During the summer months, guided ranger tours help you find your way through the park and learn more about the siege. You can call ahead to organize a private tour with an expert guide.

Biking and hiking trails through the park range from three to six-mile loops. There is also a more challenging Al Scheller Hiking Trail through the park's interior. This truly gives you an idea of what the soldiers had to face during the siege of Vicksburg. You need basic orienteering skills to follow the whole route.

The park opens to pedestrians from sunrise to sunset and to vehicles from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pay an entry fee at a booth or the visitor center. There are restrooms at the visitor center which opens 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. It's closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. You can get also water in the parking lot which is handy on hot summer days.
