Great cell reception. Good restaurant down the road in Bovina. Loves truck stop just down the road. The existing road going in "Vickors Rd" can be bumpy, dusty, wet and may hold pools of water at times but the road itself is solid and will support the heaviest of vehicles.

Sweet Olive Cabin can be a little difficult to find, especially in the dark. A GPS will get you close. The cabin is close to the road, Blossom Hill Rd. If you are coming in from the north, the cabin will be on the right. If coming in from the south, it will be on the left. Let me know If your eta is after dark, and I can leave the porch lights on for you.

Scott County is a dry county with beer available for sale or beer and alcohol for dining in at some locations.
Sweet Olive Cabin is not a “pet-friendly” property. We do, however, make an exception for registered service animals with an additional $25 fee.
In Forest (5-8 miles), there is Vowell’s grocery store, Walmart, and many fast food restaurants. For eating in, try Foothills lunch/dinner with live music on Friday and Saturday nights. If you are looking for some genuine southern cooking, there’s The Garden Patch (open till 2 pm M-Th).

Sweet Olive Cabin is not a “pet-friendly” property. We do, however, make an exception for registered service animals with an additional $25 fee.
In Forest (5-8 miles), there is Vowell’s grocery store, Walmart, and many fast food restaurants. For eating in, try Foothills lunch/dinner with live music on Friday and Saturday nights. If you are looking for some genuine southern cooking, there’s The Garden Patch (open till 2 pm M-Th).

After several days on the road, I pulled into Black River completely worn out and overstimulated—just looking for somewhere to hide out and decompress. This place was exactly what the doctor ordered.
Scott was a fantastic host, and the site itself is private and peaceful. If you're someone who needs quiet to recharge, this is your spot.
The real bonus for me was the huge open field. My dog was able to run, play, and burn off days' worth of pent-up road-trip energy—which meant we both slept well that night.
I wasn't able to take advantage of the fishing this trip, but the river is right there and the opportunity is outstanding if that's your thing. There are also hiking trails through the woods if you want to explore.
Honestly, this place checked every box. Private, quiet, dog-friendly, with water access and trails if you want them—or just peace and space if you don't. Definitely one of the top spots on my list for a return visit.

This place is a MUST visit! My husband and i enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back with babies and grandson. Mr. Austin stayed in contact even before the trip...We enjoyed interacting with the animals and were hoping to do the horseback riding but it rained. This place is 1000/10! I promise you won't be disappointed.

We only overnighted at Wendy Oaks. It was a great, easily accessed campground for us. I add that as we travel with a small trailer and a U-turn was necessary. The trees and lake made me feel like I was in a camp ground, Unfortunately it rained all night and we skipped the hike around the lake. Our site was gravel but level.

Awesome host! Sometimes when you pull up late at night, you never know what you’re going to find. Scott was there to greet us and do everything he could to make sure we were comfortable. It was cold, rainy and he went above and beyond.The directions were easy and helpful. The campsite was incredibly spacious, easy to pull through and hookup to electric/water. No issues whatsoever and very simple to do yourself and in the dark which is why Scott’s assistance was even more notable. We would stay again and would recommend!

We had a wonderful time camping at this site. Decor was fun and holiday themed. Staff was friendly and kind. Very attentive. Neighbors were fun. Our kids had fun on the playground equipment. Plenty of room for running and ball games. We had a nice fire. Didn't get to try the gem mining b/c we ran out of time. The area was great for walking. Overall great stay!

What an amazing campsite. Scott, the host, was incredible and super friendly and knowledgable. There is a beautiful lake on site where campers can fish and hike, and the place is super clean, quiet, and secluded. The amenities are super clean and pleasant. Overall, a great experience. I will definitely come back and visit Scott and his campsite.

Scott was very respectful, and we felt safe at Black River Campsite. He was very committed to making the camping experience a good one. The road coming in is a bit bumpy and tough in a vehicle with low ground clearance, but not impossible. Just gotta take it slow. The site was perfectly level and good for a car camper. Showers were awesome, warm, and he keeps things very clean! Gorgeous views too and nice little hiking trails, fishing spots.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The site was flat and easy to get in and out of with my trailer. The shower house and bathroom facilities were well maintained and clean.
The location is beautiful and the dog park was such a great bonus. My furry kids loved to have a place to run art and blow off some steam.
