The meadow we occupy was once the farmers property that I grew up next to at my parents farm house.
When he wanted to sell his property he offered it to us for purchase at a fair price if we would not develop more than we needed to live here.
We maintained the meadow adjacent to our property and have kept it as an agricultural site.
We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same.
It is expensive to live in Newtown but we love our property.
We want to teach others to grow food from their land while helping to support us keeping our adjacent property agricultural and undeveloped.
Our property has provided many happy gatherings and events and we love to share it with others.

Various seasons will offer you an opportunity to pick your own breakfast in our maturing establishment. You can enjoy exploring, and examining our 7 year permacultuire food forest with chestnut seedlings already tall enough to climb , 10-foot hazels bearing buckets of nuts and a different selection of raspberries, blackberries, gooseberry, currents, golden berries, service berries and Mulberries. Enjoy a stroll through the meadow trail to breath in morning views and evening fireflies and stars. This camp area is very private but household amenities are not far away if desired. This site is much more private than Mickelberry Forest Garden Site and the beautiful mountain view is only a small step away. One mile away we offer nearby blue mark trails, mountain biking, lake and outdoor activities are at your fingertips and your hosts will be happy to provide any assistance needed to find or enjoy these opportunities. The Creamery (Ferris Acres) is one of the best farm ice cream shops in the East. We can provide breakfast upon request from our free range chickens on our kiwi lined deck with beautiful mountain views. Come and enjoy the croak of the bullfrog and the sound of the crickets. The preserve land can be hiked, though there are not always paths. Macedonia and Kent Falls state parks are nearby by car, as well as an entrance to the Appalachian Trail just five minutes down the road.
We are just six minutes away from the Tenmile River Metro North station and can pick you up with advance coordination.

Mohawk State Forest can be identified by some truly unique natural and historical features that go unmatched in Connecticut. 1,683-foot Mohawk Mountain was once used by Native Americans to spy rival tribes approaching and the Black Spruce Bog is thought to have formed after a giant glacial ice block melted and left a 40-foot depression filled with water.
Today, the area is recognized its hearty specimens of black spruce and larch and has become popular for both educational and scientific purposes. We're only 1.5 miles from a SECRET entrance to Fahnestock and the trailhead to Candlewood Hill, one of the park's most exquisite views.. Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven.
There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided)
Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars.
During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay.
We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam.
Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away!
Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat!
Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more.
It's still amazingly quiet at the farm where the Milky Way is clearly visible.

We are located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, close to the Village of
Rhinebeck and the Hudson River.
There are many things to do within a half an hour of the campsite.
Learn more about this land:
A very spacious semi-wooded site that is in the shape of a triangle. The dimensions are approximately 100' by 100' by 50'. Perfect for the large group camp out or the family site. The Lean-to is approximately 10'x9', large enough for a small tent or keep the picnic table in there for bad weather.
Large or multiple tents no problem, put your tents in the wooded area where there is room for multiple tents. There is a fire pit area, picnic table, 4 outdoor chairs and corn hole that all are included with the site. A seasonal stream runs along the campsite giving you a nice bubbling brook sound. Plenty of privacy with screens around the site.
Within 15-20 minutes of our site is just about anything you could desire. Local restaurants, hiking, fishing, shopping, drive in movie and much much more. Rainy days no problem explore one of our nations pieces of history, Vanderbilt mansion, Theodore Roosevelt home, Montgomery Place Mansion, Poets walk, Ferncliff forest, or Art Omi.

Everything is covered: Not kidding, there is a giant wooden Lean-to. And a giant canvas roof over the picnic table.
Very comfortable place to camp, plenty of firewood, right near the Taconic, it’s got it all!

The campsites were rustic , mostly level. He had chairs around , fire wood and a very clean outhouse. It was a great spot to relax around a fire and watch the stars. It’s pretty convenient and close to town but you feel like you’re at a campsite in the woods!

We had a wonderful time at Moon in the Pond Farm. Dom was so wonderful and helpful. The farm was beautiful and serene. We all loved waking up to see farm animals and have a rare opportunity to interact with them. But the icing on the cake was Chip the dog. He was hands down the coolest dog ever. We will definitely come back!

What a big, beautiful space to relax and enjoy. The weather was rough, but I still enjoyed myself with the numerous fire pits and seating to relax and unwind. There were goats, chickens, and ducks, and they were nice to hang out with. It was a wonderful time, and I'll definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Luxury Camping at 'Higher Ground'
I took the train from NYC Grand Central and got to Evan and Laura’s by a quick Uber ride! It was so lovely, comfortable, everything provided. They were fabulous hosts and super accessible when needed. It was the perfect getaway from the city, very much separate and in the woods while not feeling too isolated, close to water, hiking. I actually walked/hiked back to the train and even the road itself is a beautiful journey. Everything was easy and I would highly recommend staying here!

We had an amazing stay at Destination French. The campsite was well-maintained, but what truly impressed us was the exceptional communication with our host, Mike. He promptly responded to all our messages and greeted us warmly at our campsite. This was our first time at Destination French, but it certainly won’t be our last.

every thing is just as advertised. nice forested setting, a few buildings 100 yards away or more. hiking trails just down the road. great Italian at the end of the road. water and electric are very good. nice fire pit.

I really enjoyed this Hipcamp. It was very quiet and peaceful. The Connecticut countryside is beautiful. The goats were very sweet and I enjoyed petting them. The chickens and ducks were nice as well. This campsite was far enough from the main house to give it a private feel. The parking spot for this site was close. I went kayaking nearby twice from two separate launch sites. The campsite has a nice picnic table, a fire pit and firewood for purchase if you don't bring any. I brought my own Luggable Loo for a toilet. Overall, I recommend this Hipcamp. I'd definitely consider coming back in the future. I used this trip as an opportunity to try a new Zonkoo inflatable tent. It definitely go tested with an overnight thunderstorm with sideways rain. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset and sunrise from the property.

As a mom with a five year old daughter we had such a great time! My daughter absolutely loved the goats and chickens, and the view from our camp site was amazing (perfect for stargazing) . It was a special experience for the both of us, and would love to come back soon.

Great hosts and nice site. Nature is the only thing visible, but you’re still not too far from the parking spot or the road if you need something from the car. Would recommend!
