This property has been in my family for three generations. It is classic Connecticut with hills and streams and stone walls.
The octagon is a private 122 ft.² that is electrified and heated. It has a full size bed, cabinet and table with chairs. It sits next to a brook on 56 acres of forest with a pond, small waterfall, marsh and 2 1/2 miles of hiking trails. There is a fire pit and outdoor dining area next to the octagon. We also have a propane outdoor grill and propane two burner camp stove. Out house with composting toilet close to octagon is heated. A great place to rejuvenate in the forest! Dogs welcome.

Tree huggers unite! This is the promised land. Consisting of two separate forests, the wooded bastions of Mother Nature rise tall and strong in these parts. Each tree is beautiful in its own way, but perhaps no trunk is better for squeezing than those in the 200-year old white pine grove in the Whittemore Recreation Area of the Peoples Forest.
One can only hug so many trees, however, so it’s a good thing there are lots of other things to do in the American Legion and Peoples State Forests. The trails that wind through these wooded acres will keep hikers on their feet for days on end. And the waters of the wild and scenic West Branch of the Farmington River attracts kayakers and fishers from all over Connecticut and even neighboring states. Weekend Trip to Inlaw Apt @River near Casino, Kayak
Loved staying here! The view is amazing, and the outdoor patio area has a sofa and outdoor fire pit, which was so cozy on a cool fall night. We used the canoe on the river - loved that Gina has kayaks and a canoe for guests to use (and life vests). Inside the apartment was so clean and the bed and sofa bed were very comfortable. Gina left us a basket of snacks and fruit, coffee and a vase of beautiful fresh flowers welcomed us when we arrived. Gina was great to communicate with and answered all my questions. She lives upstairs, but we felt like we had the place the ourselves. I would highly recommend staying here. Also check out Arrowhead Acres bakery, winery and farm - just 12 minutes from the property. Delicious food and wine. Had dinner at a Peruvian restaurant in Norwich called Canggio Restaurant. Such great food!!

Weekend Trip to Beavertides Farm
I would only recommend "maybe" as most of my friends are not as adventurous staying at a working farm. Working is the right way to say it so no fancy paths or high end stuff. Just a very cool relaxing way to spend time around a real farm scene. Hosts were MOST helpful and nice and the tent was huge. Beds super comfy, clean and the fridge came in handy too. Donkey and two horsed milling about was nice. I'd say the solar shower is a bit crude but I've been told it's to be upgraded. The whole area is wonderful. So yeah, you want to chill simply? Come here!

Five stars aren’t enough to describe our stay at the picturesque Octagon. This is a perfect getaway for a solo traveler or couple. Nancy thought of all the details, and we felt so welcomed. We cooked dinner over the bonfire, and in addition to the tiny house, enjoyed the outdoor shower and a hike through this beautiful property. I hope to return one day!

Marleen went above and beyond each day to make sure we were extra cozy and felt at home. All of our accommodation needs were easily met. The farm is full of life and love. This stay definitely exceeded expectations. Would come back to Beavertides again and again.

Weekend Trip to Beavertides Farm
What an incredible glamping experience! From the moment we arrived, we were completely enchanted by this hidden gem! The tent itself was beautifully appointed and very spacious. But stepping outside was where the real magic happened: we were immediately immersed in a stunning wild meadow filled with colorful flowers and tall, swaying grasses, all framed by gorgeous forest.
The animal encounters made it even more special. A friendly donkey greeted us upon arrival, and throughout our stay we delighted in watching chickens, ducks, and geese wandering freely around the property and grazing in the fields.
The location couldn't have been better for exploration. We used it as our perfect base camp for discovering charming nearby villages and tackling some amazing hiking trails.
Our host, Marleen, was warm, welcoming, and gave us the most fantastic local recommendations!
If you're a nature lover looking for an authentic escape from the everyday, this is your spot.

This was our second time staying at the Hiker's Haven. It was very peaceful and relaxing. We had a lovely little fire in the fire pit. The trails are well maintained. It all made for a very rejuvenating stay. We do hope to stay again in the future, maybe it will become a yearly tradition.

I would love to take this time to express the wonderful time I had. The tranquility was exactly what I was looking for. The cabin had all the necessities needed to get comfortable and enjoy nature right at your feet. Nancy was such a joy to speak with and to get to know.
