Goodwin State Forest is less than 3 miles away by car where you can put in a canoe on Pine Lake, amble through the wildflower and pollinator gardens, or enjoy the Education Center and Museum. From Goodwin, you can access the Air Line State Park Bike/Hiking Path. Hampton also has a general store that has simple food, frozen dinners that Kara will heat up for you, gifts, and awesome Ice Cream Sodas! When he wanted to sell his property he offered it to us for purchase at a fair price if we would not develop more than we needed to live here. We maintained the meadow adjacent to our property and have kept it as an agricultural site. We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same. It is expensive to live in Newtown but we love our property. We want to teach others to grow food from their land while helping to support us keeping our adjacent property agricultural and undeveloped. Weekend Trip to Heaven Sent Barn!

We overnighted here for my sons birthday fishing trip. 3x 13 year olds and dad. Jocelyn was an amazing host. Super friendly and approachable. The barn is a great place for cold nights and rain. It’s a great way to plan a camping trip without worrying about rain or weather. If you are into trout/small mouth fishing the Natchaug is right across the street and there are many many walks all around. Great location will definitely be back again!

Absolutely gorgeous and remote location! Dark enough to see the stars, quiet enough to count every cricket, frog, & owl lulling you to sleep. Didn't see or hear a single car or person the entire time we were there. There's also a beautiful nature reserve up the road that opens up deeper into the woods! Alan's a very kind and thorough host, providing firewood, porto-potty, and water to wash up with. The property is very well-maintained, with moss & soil soft enough to walk bare-foot.

Weekend Trip to Mickelberry Forest Gardens

Amy was communicative and so lovely! The property is beautiful. The goats and chickens and ducks were fun camp neighbors to have. There’s a gas station and market 5 minutes away should you need anything last minute. Due to the grass in the field being dry, we had to camp a little closer to the house than we would have preferred so that we could have easier access to load/unload our camping gear and so that we could have fresh grass to set up the fire pit over. But, it sounds like the meadow will be developed over time to allow for that! So, knowing that I think we would definitely consider returning when my friend and I continue our annual camping tradition next year!

Probably one of the most secluded and amazing spots we’ve found in the NE. Love the spot; love the privacy and stars. Love the proximity to Mystic and the coast. Cant say enough great things about this sport for boondockers and off the grid types.

We had a wonderful stay on Alan’s land. The camp was well kept, with freshly laid wood chips. Alan’s stocked and wood and water was a big plus. The porta potty was immaculate. But most of all it was so quiet and private. That is until Abner, a neighborhood mule out of nowhere let out a crazy, unexpected bray which was actually pretty awesome; never heard anything like it.
