I had an amazing time staying at this campsite! After the sun went down, we got to use a telescope and learn all about the stars and constellations. It was such a cool experience—peaceful, fun, and really eye-opening.
Camping here isn’t just about enjoying nature, it’s also about connecting with the night sky in a way you don’t usually get to. I left feeling relaxed, inspired, and already looking forward to coming back again.

The site was beautiful. We happened to go there when a storm was rolling through but John stayed up late to wait for the clouds to pass and showed us some really cool things with his telescope. He was very knowledgeable and it was a great experience.

Great site for our family camping trip! Views were incredible. Our dog loved the open space for running. A cow wandering by woke us up in the morning, which the kids got a kick out of. Would definitely come back again.

What a wonderful stay! The scenery is breathtaking, and it's close to a few state parks. At night the sky is OUTSTANDING. John is an absolute treasure and a wealth of knowledge. You can really tell that he is doing what he loves. I cannot say enough good things, and I will definitely be coming back.

We had an incredible time at John’s camp. He was not only incredible hospitable and friendly, but his knowledge on astronomy was impressive. We came specifically to see the Perseid Meteor shower and even with a bright moon, we got to see them! The kids were so excited and our time there was absolutely magic. I want to come back when there’s a new moon :)

Awesome landscape; dog was ecstatic to be off leash - we were mostly solo. Clouds rolled in but still had lovely visit with host and his “astronomical” knowledge (pun intended). So cool to see cows and be lulled to sleep by their lowing.

The view is magnificent, and it is what you are paying for. The host responds to questions quickly. I will caution as the site requires maneuvering 2 very tight hairpin switch backs to get to. I was pulling an off road pop up trailer with a tundra and had to get creative to make it up. Although page lists 30 ft vehicle, i would not attempt in one unless I was incredibly skilled at driving it.

The view was absolutely stunning and it felt private. The land was somewhat rocky so there were limited places for the tent. There was a fire pit, some chairs, and a trash can. Overall, we enjoyed it but I think it is a little overpriced for what you're getting. We would happily come back but not for $200/night.
We also had a somewhat difficult time finding the place. Google directed us to a spot that was too early on the road. You need to go past Schaffer Ranch and then continue until you see the signs for Vista Point on your right hand side (it's a decent amount farther from Schaffer Ranch). Jason was responsive to our lost messages!
