Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets. Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks. Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

Off-road enthusiasts would not have enough time in one visit to explore all of the 4x4 trails, abandoned mines, and sites in the area as well as the famous trail that brings you right to the Bodie Ghost Town. Climate and Ecosystem: At 6,400 feet (1,950 meters), this high desert climate has little to moderate tree coverage and gets hot during the days and cool at night. The conditions are much like Joshua Tree National Park or Alabama Hills camping area. During your visit, you will notice many flying insects that resemble mosquitos. These Chironomid are harmless and do not bite. On the contrary, the mosquito presence is very minimal. Swimming in the lake is possible usually between April to July.

They are here a couple times per week, and also rent their camp. You may hear them having fun and engaging in target practice. The river is a shared space but it is rare to see anyone else. Noise travels in the canyon so you may hear occasional barking or other vehicles. Hearing coyotes sing at night is very common. About Us: Welcome to Bridgeport Reservoir Marina and Campground. Join us for the classic camping and fishing experience with unique views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Within the Toiyabe National Forest, Bridgeport Reservoir Marina and Campground is conveniently located near two distinct hot spring areas. A true angler's paradise, the Reservoir has excellent trout fishing from spring through fall and is close by to multiple rivers for incredible fly fishing. A 35 minute drive on highway 120 will take you to the Tioga Pass Gate of Yosemite National Park. This gate is a great start to several different areas inside of the park that you may want to visit beyond that gate. Off-road enthusiasts would not have enough time in one visit to explore all of the 4x4 trails, abandoned mines, and sites in the area as well as the famous trail that brings you right to the Bodie Ghost Town. Climate and Ecosystem: At 6,400 feet (1,950 meters), this high desert climate has little to moderate tree coverage and gets hot during the days and cool at night. The conditions are much like Joshua Tree National Park or Alabama Hills camping area. During your visit, you will notice many flying insects that resemble mosquitos. These Chironomid are harmless and do not bite. On the contrary, the mosquito presence is very minimal. Swimming in the lake is possible usually between April to July.

Spring hosts an abundance of green hills, wild flowers and cooler weather. The river is higher, faster and colder. New life pops up everywhere. Baby ducks, geese, quail and beaver frequent the river. Glitter Cove waterfall is in its full glory. The nights can be cool, so come prepared. Summer is the perfect time to swim and lounge in the river. As the days heat up, the river begins to slow and warms up to a comfortable yet refreshing temperature. New beaches emerge, just waiting to be explored. In late summer, early fall, there is a feeling of calm. The river slows significantly but still feels amazing to sit in. You can hear its gentle flow and soothing sound as it trickles over the rocks. This is a great time time to explore the river as it is mostly shallow with some swim holes. Most of the time it is very quiet. There is another camp down stream owned by a wonderful family. They are here a couple times per week, and also rent their camp. You may hear them having fun and engaging in target practice. The river is a shared space but it is rare to see anyone else. Noise travels in the canyon so you may hear occasional barking or other vehicles. Hearing coyotes sing at night is very common. The rarely seen wildlife includes rattle snakes, bob cats, coyotes, fox, mountain lions and bears. Don't worry, our animal friends like to keep their distance. Hope to see you soon! Great place. The host was warm and welcoming. Loads of signs to find your way. The cows roam but can be close sometimes which was fun. I stayed at the top of the hill in a sense and woke up to a great sunrise. Clean porta potty and overall clean site. Loads of places to discard trash. Great place and close enough to Yosemite.

We were only able to stay one night and just wish we could have stayed longer! The cabin was nice and cosy, the super moon was bright and the dogs were so welcoming! 💓 I really wish we could have spent more time at the farm but grateful for our stay!

Our stay at Squirrel Rock was absolutely fantastic. Julie was super nice and gave us the perfect balance of attention and privacy. The campground is beautiful and so well maintained plus there are lots of things to see in the Columbia area. We will definitely be coming back and recommend Squirrel Rock to everyone else looking for a quiet getaway in the gold country.

Matt + Eve and their amazing staff were beyond warm and welcoming during my stay, making me feel right at home. Everyone was respectful of leaving space for solitude while also being friendly and fun/easy to converse with. The cabin itself is super cute, but partly open-air making it pretty cold this time of year, esp when the sun isn’t on it. I would recommend bringing tons of warm base layers to sleep in or consider booking one of the other cabins with a heat source if you’re feeling unsure! Overall I had an amazing time and would happily return.

We had a great experience tent camping! There are bathrooms with hot water and showers, and a little camp sink with tons of pots/pans/utensils! The fireplace was great, and gas grills were available too. Easy drive in to Yosemite. Mac and John were friendly and very helpful! We would definitely stay again for a Yosemite visit.

We were in the Yosemite tent. It was very roomy inside. The bed was comfortable. The only critique about the bedding was the laundry detergent used was really strong. The propane heater and stove worked fine although there was only a 1/2 tank. So I would suggest bringing your own just in case. The property was beautiful. It was very easy to find using the written directions.

we’ve stayed at John’s farm 3 times now, once in spring and twice in late November. every time it has been so amazing! the property is gorgeous and there’s so much open grassy areas to wander and sit on a blanket and just enjoy being in nature and not hearing any sounds but cows mooing! the porta potty is always clean and the camping spaces are large and well equipped with fire pits and wood! i would highly recommend John’s land to anyone. thank you again for sharing your property, John!

Wondernut Farm is fantastic. The lookout was gorgeous, calm and super cozy. Despite an overnight 41 degree F temp, we were warm and the amenities were fantastic. The farm is gorgeous as well, we got to see pigs, goats and sheep, and may daughter had the time of her life. Matt and Eve were super welcoming, and everyone was kind. Can't say enough good things.

1 night at Wondernut Farm

We loved this little cabin and the entire stay at Wondernut Farm! Eve met us on arrival around a roaring wood stove in the hand-built glass communal living room. We met all the sweet dogs and then she showed us around the expansive shared kitchen before walking us up the hill to our adorable cabin. The huge window has a great view of the hillside, and we laid in bed watching shooting stars. The bed was SO comfortable, with a thick foam topper and nice sheets and pillows. The next morning, we got to meet the goats, sheep, and pigs as well as learn a little bit about the cheese making process. Highly highly recommend — we hope to go back!
