Expect a beautiful 30 minute drive on gravel roads through mature Redwood forest from the village of Mendocino. The property is also accessible from Fort Bragg via HWY 20 and road 408/Little Lake Rd. The Aloha Cabin is a beautiful one room timber frame cabin located on a ridge top in the Redwood forest. Upon entering the gate at Old Mill Farm the Aloha Cabin is the first building you see as you come out of the thick forest and into the mixed meadow/forest ridge top of the property. Old Mill Farm is a 320 ranch in the middle of Mendocino county's 50,000 acre JDSF (Jackson State Demonstration Forest.) The Aloha sits by itself about a 1/2 mile from the rest of the ranch buildings and like the entire ranch is completely off-grid. Electricity is provided by a solar photovoltaic system and battery back up. All water is pumped with solar power and gravity fed throughout the property. You will be imbedded in the outdoors with ample opportunity to commune with the forest and the wildlife that live there. The Aloha has a kitchen equipped for cooking with refrigerator, range and oven. There is a bathroom with a flush toilet and a private outdoor shower. We provide linens and bedding for the full size bed and towels for 4 guests. There is also a sleeping loft (with no bedding included but can be added as an extra.) Please bring your own pads and sleeping bags to use the loft or pitch a tent in the front yard. The front yard is fenced and has a fire pit. Always be fire conscious - never burn outside of the fire pit and extinguish all fires before leaving or bed. We had a wonderful stay at Aloha Cabin! The property is secluded, peaceful, and perfect for unplugging. We loved exploring the abundant land, and the night sky was incredible—we could even see the Milky Way. The yard and fire pit made evenings extra cozy, and our pets enjoyed it just as much as we did. Inside, the wood stove kept us warm and comfortable, and everything worked perfectly. The cabin has a charming, eco-friendly feel with cool history and plenty of books to browse. It was exactly the cozy getaway we were hoping for. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Going off-grid, watching the fire glow at night, and then curling up in a cozy, comfortable cabin that had everything we needed felt so good. My boyfriend and I loved it here! You really feel, and are, separated from everything and it’s great that the cabin has everything you need. So incredibly peaceful and we really appreciated all the trails that were left for us on a map inside the cabin. You see the rare biker group or car pass by but other than that, no one else around. Bit of a rough drive once you get off the highway but if you come prepared with a car that can handle that, you’ll be just fine.

Staying at Hoppers was truly an unforgettable experience. When we went there were 11 of sweetest puppies, and 4 dare I say sweeter doggy parents and grandparents. (They were all equally sweet) Hopper was accommodating to us and such a thoughtful host. The yurt was very cozy and beautifully deisgned. His approach to sustainability is novel and special. As someone who loves to camp in Joshua Tree, Sequoia and Kings Canyon, the area was the was the darkest night sky I’ve seen in a long long time. If you want more comfort than camping at salt point, but still be immersed in the north coast nature this is the place to be. 10/10 recommend

Weekend Trip to Yurt & Aquaponic Farm in D RedWoods

Hopper's farm was a super fun spot to stay for a weekend with my dog and toddler. The yurt had everything we needed and the detached bathroom with shower and a couple sinks was just a short walk away. His farm is in a beautiful forest about a 20 min drive uphill from sea ranch, so it is a great alternative to Salt Point SP or the other campgrounds closer to Gualala. My daughter enjoyed seeing his rabbits. Hopper is a fountain of wisdom about local plants and agriculture and I'm sure a longer stay would be super interesting, but we mainly used it as a home base for local adventures along the coast. Also if you're coming up from the bay the drive from 101 through dry creek valley is gorgeous and passes through loads of wineries/farms with cool farm stands and other neat things to stop and see if you have more time. Bottom line, it's a really nice, peaceful spot and we hope to return again soon for a longer stay.

Serene, beautiful dome on a west facing slope in the hills. Had a peaceful stay with my dog. Even though it was hot, Eli took care to provide fans, and it cooled down substantially at night. There’s an adorable full kitchen and clawfoot tub. The views are incredible!

I could go on and use more superlatives but it's exactly what you want, just book it. we had our 10 year old, and our 2 dogs, who all truly enjoyed themselves (10 year old unplugged).

This was just an incredible stay for our family at the Aloha cabin. It was the perfect amount of disconnect and comfort. Most of my family slept outdoors in tents and hammocks, but two of us slept indoors on a comfy bed. The hot shower was amazing, and the option to cook all our food was ideal. We spent some days at the beach and exploring the coast, and other days at the cabin soaking in the magical redwoods and serene environment. Cas was an exceptional host that provided a beautiful home and absolutely perfect setup. We will be back!
