Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. This two-story mid century cabin home was built in 1960 in the historic San Moritz neighborhood. The space has been artfully renovated to a modern luxury standard while preserving beautiful original elements from the 60s.
Put the well equipped full kitchen to work and make meals for yourself or the whole family. Eat at the bar or seat everyone in the dining space, or the warmer months, outside on the deck surrounded by nature. In the morning, you'll find a stocked coffee station.
Take advantage of convenient on-site laundry for longer stays or snow days.
Get cozy in your choice of three bedrooms. The upper floor bedroom features a queen-size bed with a private work space and also a beautiful, spacious master bathroom. This is a perfect base for Lake and Mountain adventures with numerous trail systems nearby, including the famed PCT as it meanders through sections of the San Bernardino National Forest.
The parking access is off the street if you choose to leave bicycles, snowboards, kayaks etc attached to your car. There is also room to leave large outdoor equipment on property for easier driving around without your outdoor gear.
There is only one Hip-Camp Site on the property - the private pine cottage with a 1/2 bath and off-street parking. Access to the patio with the gas fire-pit, grill and seating area will be yours to enjoy alone.

This is a self-check-in facility. 100% privacy. Get some inspiration or enlightenment for your project back home, but if you stay only for one day, there are so many outside activities that you don't want to miss: in front of the house is Jewel dr, it's an adventure 30 minutes hike, 10 minutes away is Lake Gregory, you can hike through the pines, fresh oxygen plus oriented exercise.

Only 10 minutes walking distance to the lake. Parking good four 4 cars. If more than 4 cars are coming, you still can find spaces for the 5th and the 6th car at the farther curve space, but please never obstruct a neighbor's right of way.
Other things to note
For dining, besides other restaurants, Hortencia (before Cliff Hanger) is a famous, great-view Mexican restaurant, which was in the movie "The Next", 15 minutes away, Tudor house food with a fantastic show. "Sky Park" is a recently opened adventure park. Kids will love this place, Snow Valley is the closest ski area. Don't forget to enjoy the beach of Lake Gregory, where you can swim in Lake Gregory in summer. Shopping at Crestline Village (Lake Dr.), many times you can find an antique of great value! Staying one night is not enough.

The space
This two-story mid century cabin home was built in 1960 in the historic San Moritz neighborhood. The space has been artfully renovated to a modern luxury standard while preserving beautiful original elements from the 60s.
Put the well equipped full kitchen to work and make meals for yourself or the whole family. Eat at the bar or seat everyone in the dining space, or the warmer months, outside on the deck surrounded by nature. In the morning, you'll find a stocked coffee station.
Take advantage of convenient on-site laundry for longer stays or snow days.
Get cozy in your choice of three bedrooms. The upper floor bedroom features a queen-size bed with a private work space and also a beautiful, spacious master bathroom. The lower level bedroom #1 bunk beds with a queen size bed on the bottom and full-size bed on top bedroom #2 has a queen size bed. All beds feature extra comfortable memory foam mattresses and down comforters.
Feel refreshed in the two bathrooms. One conveniently located on the main level, which includes a toilet and shower. One on the upper level as an en-suite off of the queen bedroom. Relax and recharge in the large soaking tub, or enjoy a nice rain shower with botanical body wash and shampoos.

This is a perfect base for Lake and Mountain adventures with numerous trail systems nearby, including the famed PCT as it meanders through sections of the San Bernardino National Forest.
The parking access is off the street if you choose to leave bicycles, snowboards, kayaks etc attached to your car. There is also room to leave large outdoor equipment on property for easier driving around without your outdoor gear.
There is only one Hip-Camp Site on the property - the private pine cottage with a 1/2 bath and off-street parking. Access to the patio with the gas fire-pit, grill and seating area will be yours to enjoy alone.

The space
This is a self-check-in facility. 100% privacy. We provide a DVD player, playing cards, table games, a CHI massage bed, a balcony reading table, the best is meditation on the balcony or on the BaGua medicine wheel. Get some inspiration or enlightenment for your project back home, but if you stay only for one day, there are so many outside activities that you don't want to miss: in front of the house is Jewel dr, it's an adventure 30 minutes hike, 10 minutes away is Lake Gregory, you can hike through the pines, fresh oxygen plus oriented exercise.
Guest access
Only 10 minutes walking distance to the lake. Parking good four 4 cars. If more than 4 cars are coming, you still can find spaces for the 5th and the 6th car at the farther curve space, but please never obstruct a neighbor's right of way.
Other things to note
For dining, besides other restaurants, Hortencia (before Cliff Hanger) is a famous, great-view Mexican restaurant, which was in the movie "The Next", 15 minutes away, Tudor house food with a fantastic show. "Sky Park" is a recently opened adventure park. Kids will love this place, Snow Valley is the closest ski area. Don't forget to enjoy the beach of Lake Gregory, where you can swim in Lake Gregory in summer. Shopping at Crestline Village (Lake Dr.), many times you can find an antique of great value! Staying one night is not enough.

Such a cute, private spot near the city. The canned ham may be small but it is so cozy and full of character. The bed was very comfy, and we appreciated a kettle being provided. We did need to pick up our own mugs, so keep that in mind if you like a warm beverage in the morning. The cooler is convenient, but we wouldn’t advise expecting it to function as a fridge. The space around the camper is very private feeling with trees around it. The hot tub is such a lovely addition and was fun to use.
The whole property is very dreamy. There was plenty of space for eating outdoors. Although the weather for us didn’t permit using the pool, it was so beautiful to look at. The bathroom is just a short walk away, and has awesome decor. We would advise bringing sandals or slides for walking to and from the bathroom and shower. The shower is a fun experience, although it’s important to note it’s quite small (width wise) to enter into the cave area. It’s not feasible for dressing in there, so you will also need to be comfortable walking back in your towel or a robe.
The road to the home is very steep and narrow. Street parking is limited but we didn’t have an issue finding parking every night, even when we came back later.
There are a couple of cats on the property that visited us and were so cute and friendly. We also got to meet Morgan who was very helpful and kind! We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Magical! Great response from host when I had questions before & after booking about what to bring. The VW bus was nice and warm at the end of November. Absolutely adored the goats: super sweet. I loved seeing ALL the animals there. There was not one thing I didn’t love about this campsite: private, lovely views, bathroom within close walking distance, literally all the things. 5/5 stars, 100% would do again.

Gemini Moon Ranch is a wonderfully unique and charming place. We stayed in the Artist Gallery and it was so cute and comfortable. We also did a stained glass class with Tracy which was amazing!! Will definitely be coming back for Soulful Sundays, one of their events and a girls weekend.

We loved our stay in the Tinned Ham Camper! The property itself was amazing with kitschy and fun decor, beautiful views, friendly hosts, and adorable cats. My favorite part of our stay was the hot tub just a couple steps from our door. We also loved that even though we’re in the middle of Eagle Rock it felt like we traveled to somewhere secluded and romantic. I can’t wait to return here!

Wonderful services and even better property. Everything from the bathroom decor and the interior of the teardrop trailer, to the small details around the yard that made the experience live up to its name. The hosts hospitality and responsiveness to our delays in arrival was very earnest and friendly, and their service was overall wonderful. Very cozy, very pampering, amazing hot tub. We didn’t get to use the beautiful pool with waterslide and grotto. And I haven’t even mentioned the great view, the awesome cave shower and the many kitties roaming around. A perfect getaway. Tucked away on a dirt hill, the bright orange VW bus sits shaded against a huge boulder. It opens completely in the back for a cool breeze and paints a retro picture. There are two metal chairs besides it.
I was expecting a picnic table, but that was absent. Luckily, I brought a table. The wooden platform below the bus was a really nice touch. I would have loved an outdoor rug to complete the look. I would recommend bringing your own lighting (lanterns, headlamps, lights). Overall, it's a unique, van life camping spot.

This spot is absolutely amazing. It's super hidden but only two minutes from the city and anything you may need, that said it feels like a world away. The property, pool and everything else were great. There is so much cool hidden art to discover and the retro decor is awesome. Morgan and Brooke were super nice and helpful giving us a tour and we had everything we needed for the night. The camper was super comfy with warm bedding and it is literally one step to your private hot tub. Some reviews mentioned tight spaces, and it is a small camper but I'm 6'2 and big guy and me and girlfriend fit totally fine and the bed was more than big enough. I can't say enough good things about this spot! I would just make you you bring what you need. We had takeout delivered and brought our own drinkware. A small mini fridge was provided which was perfect for us, but they have a giant outdoor kitchen you can add on if you need more than that! Can't wait to come back to stay, and to rent the pool in the summer! Awesome cute cats too!

As soon as you step foot on the property you feel like you’ve left the hustle and bustle of LA, the outdoor space has a 60’s Yosemite National Park vibe. The decor is adorable with lots of fun things to discover. Everything is perfectly laid out, great landscaping with ambient lighting at night, paths to multiple sitting locations and a cute little smoking area. The bathroom is a short walk from trailer. Plenty of nice clean towels! The pool is beautiful with a cool little grotto sitting area, water slide with water fall. Cave shower that was a fun experience.
Morgan and Brooke created something special with this place. They were both kind and helpful with questions. Morgan is a fascinating guy and he even invited us to his dj gig which we loved. They have an amazing catio for their sweet cats.
The camper is adorable! The mattress was very comfortable, we slept well! Loved watching the funny horror movies streaming on Night Flight! There’s cozy extra blankets, gorgeous wood interior, adorable dining area. Lots of storage space for our carry ons and supplies. Many windows, a fan for air flow, kept things cool.
Outside the camper Morgan set up a refrigerated cooler. The hot tub is perfect for two people with a lovely view. It was so relaxing and had a secluded feel to the space. Loved it!
There’s a trashcan next to the camper, ample recycling & trash cans throughout the property. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, parked car close to the property with street parking.

This property is very unique. It’s rustic but has so much charm. The trees, the wild life and the never ending wonderful quiet.
We were 6 women 60s and 70s we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Gallery.
Tracey and Pete, not only magnificent custodians of a site with such historical interest, they are the hosts we all wish to meet!
If you feel like you need to unplug or unwind head out to this place, you won’t be disappointed. There are many nooks and cranny’s inside and out to sit and be quiet, or just talking.

When I tell you hands down this was THE trip of the summer, I mean it! Lisa is incredibly kind, and her campsite gave everything it was supposed too! She is such a PHENOMENAL person, with a beautiful heart and spirit! My son and I had a blast, and her recommendation for the Sunday Brunch spot exceeded expectations! It was something out of a story book! Thank you for such a rich experience and memories that will last a lifetime! We will definitely return! Weekend Trip to Splitrock Farm and Retreat
We were expecting to see an abandoned bus that maaaaybe we would sleep in. However upon arriving we realized not only had they laid out full bedding in it but it was decorated with a cool bohemian/hippie vibe. There were even adorable twinkle lights in the interior. We stayed super warm at night and in the morning we were greeted by goats coming in from the oak grove. This is a nice quiet little area tucked uphill from the grove. We will definitely stay here again. Great time!

We loved Sunset Oaks VW Campsite. The hotwater shower was very easily accessible and the flushing toilet a short walk down was an added bonus.
Unfortunately, we only spent 1 night at this site, no fault of the hosts. There was a huge ant infestation on the VW van mattress. Luckily we took a tent and all of us slept in it. The next morning when I brought this us to the hosts he was kind and understanding and upgraded us to Palomar Vista (renamed Sunrise Vista) in the Splitrock Valley area. Seems like this is a newer part of this farm and retreat site.
Palomar Vista was perfect. Had a camping stove, a comfortable bed, essential cooking utensils, and an awesome heat reflecting rock fire pit. We spent two wonderful nights here.
The flushing toilet and shower were clean and an added bonus.
The animals; goats, llamas, pigs, chickens and the two friendly herding dogs add to this wonderful location.
Just a note, beat get to the site during daylight hours as the drive on Harris trail has cliffs, and blind bends and is a one lane road.
We truly enjoyed our time there and what made it even more special was the understanding and kindness of the host.
We will definitely be back soon.
