Fires always allowed at fire ring. You are welcome to bring your own wood. Pitch your tent in a forest setting alongside a lake on a working cattle ranch. The ranch is within a 20 minute drive to either Stockton or Lodi, CA and is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and pastures. Outdoor flush toilets, sink, tables and fire ring available. 8. 160 Acres amidst National Forest

97%
(97)
46mi from Sacramento · 3 sites · Tents, RVs
Welcome to Slate Mountain where you have access to 160 acres of gated, private wilderness with 360 degree mountain views and exclusive waterfront on Slab Creek. There are two choices of sites to camp: At Site 1 you can park an RV or pitch a tent where you have access to a picnic table, fire pit, vault toilet, and amazing sunset views. At Site 2 you can pitch a tent and have access to a picnic table, fire pit, rocking chairs, and a hammock. Bring your hiking boots or your off-road toys and explore 160 acres of secluded forest filled with wildflowers, butterflies, ancient Pines and Cedars, wild berries, and wild game. Spend the day relaxing, picnicking, and try your luck at gold panning on pristine Slab Creek where not a single human or road exists for miles. Bring your paddle boards and kayaks and spend an afternoon at Stumpy Meadows, a beautiful mountain reservoir a 25 minute drive from the property. Apple Hill wineries and farms are a 40 minute drive. If you bring the off-road toys you also have access to miles of trails throughout hundreds of acres of national forest. Don’t feel like cooking? Smoke on the Water restaurant at Finnon reservoir in Swansboro is a quick 20 minute drive from the property. If you need supplies, a nice restaurant, or a day of wine tasting to break up the grit, downtown Placerville and Georgetown are both a 45 minute scenic drive. IMPORTANT NOTES:  1) To get the most out of your experience, we highly recommend a 4WD or vehicle, ATVs or eBikes. 2) The creek is at the bottom of the canyon, 1.5 miles from the gate at the entrance, and the road down is very steep and lined with blackberry bushes. We highly recommend an off-road vehicle/ATV or eBikes for easy access to creek. 3) Be aware you are in the middle of the forest and wildlife such as bear, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, and tics have been spotted on the property. Poison Oak is also common.   4) The property has cell service in the upper quadrant, however once you drop below the tree line toward the creek there is no service. 5) We highly recommend bringing a chainsaw or hatchet. There is an abundance of dead wood on the property that can be gathered for camp fires. Trees also occasionally fall on the trail which can impede access to the creek.

Welcome to Coco, the 1970 Overlander 27’ Airstream! We have tried to preserve her 50-year-old charm as much as possible and are still in the process of restoring her to her original glory. Our family of 4 humans, two dogs, and one guinea pig lived in Coco while our house was being built. It was quite an adventure! Coco is nestled in the foothills of the Sierras on our semi-private 4-acre property. Easy access to Grass Valley, Nevada City, and the Yuba River. Coco the Airstream is fully functional with a kitchen and bathroom. There is one full-ish size bed that sleeps two comfortably in the bedroom area, and the couch can fold into one twin-sized bed. We are located about 15 minutes to town and 10 to the nearest grocery store. Coco the Airstream shares the property with a private family of four humans and two dogs in a house at the top of the hill. My parents are full time RVers and often stay in the other RV spot on our property throughout the year when they are taking a break from traveling. The two dogs are very friendly but may bark to greet you upon your arrival. Show more

Where to go

Eldorado National Forest

Escape to Eldorado National Forest to explore lakes, canyons, mountains, and trees. Set about 60 miles east of Sacramento in Sierra Nevada, the forest also hosts over 50 developed campgrounds throughout its diverse landscapes. Then, bike, boat, or rock climb along the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe. Eldorado campers can explore natural attractions with ease from campsites, glampsites, cabin rentals, and more. With forty campgrounds to choose from, Eldorado National Forest offers lakeside camping with boat launches, full hookups, fire pits, picnic tables, and potable water.

Point Reyes National Seashore

Head to the coast at Point Reyes National Seashore featuring dozens of beaches and Pacific Ocean views. Nestled north of San Francisco, the shoreline stretches for 80 miles. Campers can explore its diverse coastal features including cliffs, sand dunes, and tidepools. The Point Reyes Lighthouse is a must for history lovers and boat watchers too. Then, spend the night—the seashore offers boat-in and hike-in backcountry camping on-site. Cabin rentals, tent sites, and RV parks with full hookups are also nearby.

Samuel P. Taylor State Park

Slip away to Samuel P. Taylor State Park—just seven minutes inland from Point Reyes. Tree-covered trails weave through the area full of towering redwoods and old growth. Highly sought after campsites and cabin rentals in the park offer a cozy stay near the shoreline. Campers can also expect hot showers, potable water, and fire rings, though there aren’t any sites with RV hookups. After setting up camp, hike or bike the Cross Marin Trail, which leads explorers along Lagunitas Creek, the old North Pacific Coast Railroad, and into Golden Gate Recreation Area.

When to go

Sacramento’s mediterranean climate creates suitable camping conditions year-round. The coastal breeze brings warm summers and mild winters. Summers see average highs above 90°F—sunscreen and hydration are a must. Temperatures begin to cool down from November to March with temperatures dropping to the mid 50s or low 60s during the day and 40°F overnight. Campers can enjoy the quieter times of the changing seasons with springtime blooms and fall foliage as well.
