For 70 years the Nelson family has been farming vineyards and attracting people every year to the beautiful region of Hopland. It is truly a family affair as each generation has put in their time and energy, infusing this ranch with their own flair.
In 1951 Herman and Clara Nelson sold their ranch in what is now Silicon Valley and headed north, landing in Southern Mendocino County near the town of Hopland. Since then the mature prune orchards and grass-fed sheep that dotted the farm’s rolling hills have given way to an abundance of sustainable vineyards as well as Bartlett pears, an olive orchard, and live Christmas Trees.
You will be staying on a working ranch, vineyards, and winery. We have several locations but none of them have hookups at this time. We have vineyard views and oak woodlands and hilltop valley views. We host weddings and other events. We have a tasting room and a redwood picnic area. We are the fourth owners of this property. The ranch has produced hops, prunes, pears, wine grapes, sheep, and cattle at different periods. Currently, we grow pears, grapes, strawberries, and Christmas trees.

We had a great stay in our 25' MB Forester Class C! A little hot but manageable. First we stopped in the wine tasting room to register and sample all the wines. Then we headed to our site on the East side. One section of dirt road was first gear but the RV made it without any problem. I'm not sure if the road was wet. You are basically in an active pasture on the top of a high ridge looking down at the valley to the East and the valley to the West. Incredible views with only the faint sound of traffic on 101. We did a nice mile or so hike along the ridge with cattle that was fantastic. We just stayed one night but we will be back to do it again. Full cell service as well as the tower is right nearby. If you like boondocking/dry camping, this is an enjoyable stay!

We came to town for a wedding and stayed at the Nelson family Vinyard on their property across from the Vinyard. We had a larger fifth wheel and we were a little concerned about getting it up the hill and being able to turn around but we did and we were so happy! Greg came over to check on us and make sure we made it ok and was very welcoming. We tasted wine Saturday morning before heading to the wedding and their wines are just as great! The sparkling was soooo good! If you’re thinking about it, do it, and also go check out the tasting room. You won’t be disappointed!

I had the best time ever at Lima Sierra’s magical Mendo campsite! She is an experienced, thoughtful host, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It was the perfect place to pitch our tents and have evenings around the campfire, looking up at the stars. Her kitchen, bathroom, and overall house was impeccably clean and tidy, and it was so nice to be able to use the amenities while camping.
Lima Sierra also gave us some local recommendations that were truly 10/10. She helped us explore the local area and enabled us to see some of what makes Mendocino so special firsthand. She is also a very warm, open hearted person, who knows how to host and welcome other travelers. It was so cool to learn about Lima Sierra’s experience living in Mendocino and her work leading the Mendocino Mermaids non-profit. You can tell she’s a pillar of the community and cares deeply about where she lives.
If you want to see Mendocino, Caspar, Fort Bragg and the other surrounding areas through the lens of a local, stay here! We had a peaceful, magical time and hope others will as well.

We stayed two nights and I would highly recommend Nelson Family Vineyards. There were two options for places to camp, a spot near the tasting room with beautiful views of the vineyards, or an area on the other side of Hwy 101 on a hill with gorgeous views. We picked the hillside and stayed in spot 6, the sites there are super big and the views are incredible. We barely saw anyone else the entire weekend other than some curious cows.
We did the hike they recommended around the property and the views were amazing the whole way.
We would love to stay again.

The location and landscape is beautiful. The directions were thorough and welcome packets were available after hours. The packet said the campsite we chose because of no 4x4 had several sites. Yet it only really had one that was level, and it was taken. The other places to park were not level. We have levelers but it was a bit of a challenge in the mud, at night. We were happy with the location. It was quiet and all we were grateful to stop in a quiet place to camp for the night.
