Outdoor stays for every style

Find your new favorite spot.

Boating, surfing, sea kayaking—Long Beach has it all. Located just south of Los Angeles, the urban port city is famous for its Pacific beaches. Travelers also have easy access to Orange County state parks and oceanside campgrounds. RV resorts and RV parks are commonplace in and around Long Beach. Most put you just steps from the ocean. Plus, you can glamp in style with WiFi, swimming pools, hot tubs, and other camper comforts. Shallow waters (great for beginner surfers) await at Bolsa Chica State Beach. Bike along the paved boardwalk, or light up a beachside bonfire at one of 200 fire rings. If you have an RV or camper trailer, you can snatch a site here. Keep in mind tent camping is a no-go. If you're determined to pitch a tent, drive 30 miles down the coast to Crystal Cove State Park. Get stoked about hiking to backcountry sites in the coastal bluffs and exploring wooded canyons. If you're looking to splurge, you can even spend a night in a historic seaside cottage. While you're in Long Beach, be sure to tour the Queen Mary, an ocean liner docked in the harbor. You can also take advantage of nearby California beaches, such as Seal Beach or Huntington Beach. Don't forget your surfboard—the waves here are world-class. For fun on the water, have a blast whale-watching or cruising down the Naples canals. If you have some extra time, take an express boat to Catalina Island. Scuba diving, hiking, kayaking are just a few ways to experience this wild paradise. The Long Beach area gets a lot of tourist traffic in the summer, so book well in advance to secure your camping spot. Luckily, most campgrounds are open year round. The Pacific ocean is usually too cold for swimming in the winter. On the other hand, the empty beaches are a reward in themselves.
