Weekend Trip to Cross Bull Ranch/CBR

Lisa was a really good host. She was super friendly and welcoming and made it easy to arrive unassisted. I brought my two young daughters and they loved swinging on the rope swing and exploring the dry creek bed. We had a nice propane fire pit. (No real fires allowed). And when we needed bug spray I drove 5 minutes to pick it up and come back. feels removed from LAand yet not at all removed from civilization.

Weekend Trip to Rancho de Granville

We loved tent camping on Catherine’s ranch! Our group was 3 mothers (and one father) and 3 toddlers in 3 separate cars, so finding a site to accommodate all of us was very difficult. Catherine had no problem. We all fit with room to spare at FORD Tractor Site. It was all the way at the end of the property so it was private and cozy. We are sure to come back soon :)

So lovely!! Arrived late at night and what a pleasant surprise the ostriches were in the morning! Very quiet, seems like there’s lots to do on the property, peaceful and cute. Most definitely booking again when I drive down to LA again this summer!

Weekend Trip to Arber-Moore's Ranch

We had a great stay in our camper van. It is beautifully situated between Ventura and Ojai. It served as a great basecamp for exploring and adventuring locally. Our first day, we drove down to the coast and joined a kayaking expedition out to the Channel Islands National Park. After a full day out on the ocean, the camp shower was lovely. And the drive back from Ventura was easy. The next day we were set up for a full day of exploring the completely charming town of Ojai. Both nights were quiet. Other campers were respectful. Lot was level enough not not need leveling blocks for the van. If you are not an early riser, the roosters may be an annoyance, but for us 50-year-old-morning-people, it was charming. Recommended.

Weekend Trip to Camp RainDale

Had an awesome time! Site is right next to a nice creek, there was even running water through a hose for washing and an electrical outlet available to charge your phone if need be. There was also a nice clean portajohn there. There were Peacocks all around which was rad, We also brought our dog and he had a blast too. It started to rain which got all our wood wet and the guys running the place made sure we got some dry stuff to be able to get a fire going. Just an all around good time. Everyone we ran into was super nice and helpful and just wanted us to have fun. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks Lizard, Kevin, and Nick, you guys are awesome. Lizard really took care of us.

2 nights at Peaceful Mountain Cabin

Peaceful and quiet . Gigi is a lovely respectful host. She provided everything we needed and brought us extra blankets as the temperature dropped at night. We enjoyed visiting her farm animals and playing with her beautiful dogs. We especially liked that the cabin space was fenced and secure for our dogs,, they loved being off leash and free to roam around in a safe place. We were able to enjoy dinner cooked over a wood fire and the star viewing was amazing. We plan to visit again.

2 nights at Camp RainDale

Peaceful and relaxing camp! We met a few nice people, the porta-potty was very clean, and the creek was super calming. The fire pit was ready when we arrived. At night, we listened to frogs, crickets, and even peacocks they said about 200 are in the area! It’s a secure, gated spot, perfect for letting my little one explore. You can hear some cars early on, but later it’s just pure nature. We had a blast and will definitely be back!

4 nights at Lone Juniper Ranch

Great spot. Fantastic views and wild flowers. Entertaining to see the workings around the farm, feeding the animals and watching them get rounded up, especially when a camel escaped! Location was a good base camp for visiting the area State Parks. The cabin had everything we needed. It all actually looked better in person than the pictures. We were pleasantly surprised.

Robin is a great host, passionate about helping people connect to the land and each other. The land is beautiful, great views, wide variety of vegetation and steep rewarding trails. And the smell of the sage brush and other native plants is amazing. The tent sites are very rustic. There is one small shower (nice hot water!) and a small kitchen equipped with a mini camp stove to be shared by all. These are also rustic, with sand on the floor etc. I stayed at the "Patch of Forest" site and recommend it for quiet if your tent is nice and small.

Very convenient, 5 minutes from the main strip in Ojai. It was a pretty basic, but they provide everything that you need (bathroom, hot water for a shower, potable water) and they also provided firewood. Perfect bang for your buck camping.

Great spot! We did archery, axe throwing, and the ostrich tour. Jessica and her son were amazing and fun instructors, and Jessica was extremely knowledgeable about ostriches. We bought ostrich oil and loving it so far, made our skin so smooth!!! The campsite had a communal fireplace and a bathroom, which was perfect for what we needed for a one night stay.

This was a gem - and Julia is really awesome. The site has a beautiful view. Incredibly relaxing and lovely to wake up to in the mornings. The outdoor bed and bathtub are such great touches and the little trailers themselves are well equipped and very nicely decorated, clean and cozy. I recommend this spot. It’s a very convenient location and Julia was a wonderful host, even taking us on a great hike that took us to some beautiful views. Go check it out!! We will be returning.

Gem of the Bend (Horses welcome)

The Chumash called the peak of Mount Piños the center of the universe, or center of the world depending on the translation. This campground is at the southeast base of this mountain. The San Andreas fault is just about 8 miles away, and many other faults meet nearby. The mountains here are full of geological signs of the Forces that ripped away Santa Barbara from the North American plate as it was flipped upside down. This is the entrance to the Enchanted Forest. Learn more about this land: Lockwood Valley is so close to Los Angeles and other urban areas, but feels 1000 miles away. Our neighborhood is a gem within Lockwood Valley. The community has less than 20 residences so it is very rural, but neighborly. There are horses nearby, you will hear some roosters in the distance, and if you are lucky, you may hear the African lions or wolves from the next canyon over where there is a (fully contained) wildlife sanctuary called Steve Martins Working Wildlife (not the funny guy). Great secluded spot for a fully contained RV. Easy entrance from a good dirt road. The actual property of the site is 1/8 of an acre and is surrounded by forest and fields. A picnic table is nestled in a grove of trees next to a steel fire pit ring. Bring your hammock to relax under big shady piñon pines. The site is about 200 yards from the entrance to the Los Padres National Forest with great hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching, hunting, etc. There is currently no privacy barrier between the campsite and the dirt road, but the traffic is extremely minimal. There are two 12’x24’ horse corrals on the property. This area is ideal for horseback trail riding and the campsite location makes for the perfect base camp. This is a superb stargazing spot, far from the city lights. Many amateur astronomers come to this area for the dark skies. At a mile high, nights can be very cold, and in the winter it is possible to get up to a couple feet of snow. Weather conditions such as heavy rain or snow can make the roads and campsite impassable at times so cancellations are possible in this case (this happens a lot less than we would like, of course, because we need the precipitation!).

Old West Mountain Camping Near LA!

Learn more about this land:A vast expanse of oak trees, California Junipers and rugged, mountainous land running with jackrabbits, quail, and owls that is just 3 miles from Vazquez Rocks and the PCT, our ranch transports you. From the tent campsite, you look out for 20 miles and see nothing but nature across small mountains and canyons all the way to the peaks of Angeles National Forest in the distance. The campsite is a large flat area. For a trailer or RV it's a great place to park and the view is towards wide open spaces. With a tent or if you want more pure nature, you can drive out onto the property further towards the small ruin of the old homesteader's cabin or beyond. The property has a long-abandoned gold mine and circular arrastres where miners used mules to break up rocks. Nearby Acton has pick-your-own apples/pears/peaches at Bloom farms. We are at 3000 feet with strong sun during the day and cool mountains air at night. The camping is set away from structures, but if you want to stroll, closer to the ranch buildings, we have friendly small goats you can visit if interested and horses and a donkey to say hello to across the corral fence.

On many days you can experience Ojai’s famous pink moments. You can hike the trails above Ojai, boat, eat, or picnic at Lake Casitas. Travel to nearby Ventura to shop, fish the pier, or take a deep sea fishing charter or Island charter to Whale watch or fish around the Channel Islands. Please note the aerial view of the camping area recently placed by Hipcamp is NOT AT ALL REPRESENTATIVE of the current camping sites and shows a photo that is many years old when the site was merely land. That photo is without any of the existing amenities or improvements. The actual sites are all Larger than Federal Park and Statepark guidelines, with averages of 20'x30' for campsites and 20'x40' for a long RVCampsite. We have planted many young trees and continue to plant trees and native shrubs around and near the sites. We have picnic tables, table coverings, fire pits, and camping rugs/footprints. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more. We offer both tent and RV camping. Behind the site is South Mountain, where you can scramble, look for fossils from the Sespe range (20 million years old) and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Prospector Ranch which is an 1800's style ranch located right next door to the acre used for Hipcamping. The ranch is made up of their home and is also a venue for filming, photo shoots and small events. When not being used, camping guest are welcome to enjoy the area down around the authentic saloon, use the picnic area under large Oak trees and hike the property. They purchased the ranch 3 years ago and love being outside of the city in the mountains. Star gazing is a must when staying there! The camp site is NEXT DOOR to Prospector Ranch which is our 1800's style ranch tucked away in the Santa Monica mountains, close to beaches, vineyards, amazing hiking, biking to the beach and the city! The wide open empty lot looks out at the beautiful mountains. Enjoy stunning sun sets and Picnic under the grand Oak Trees at the ranch or maybe come by the saloon next door for a cold beverage if we are around. :-). We are happy to point you in the direction for what ever you want to do. There are so many things to do in Thousand Oaks!
