Weekend Trip to Klamath’s Best Kept Secret

Great location right next to the Klamath River and very close to the heart of the Redwoods. Our neighbors at the campground were all very nice and the location had everything we needed. If you plan to camp in a tent, bring long underwear. It gets cold at night (even in June). We had a great time very relaxing.

Weekend Trip to Animal Land

We had a wonderful time at Animal Land. The view of the river and surrounding land cannot be beat. We saw deer, eagles, foxes and frogs! We spent our days lounging by the river, which takes the edge off the heat, and relaxing by the fire at night. Ken is a gracious host and has so much insight to offer about the wilderness. We loved our stay at Animal Land and can’t wait until next year so we can come back for another visit!

Weekend Trip to Redwoods Rest Stop

Exactly what we needed on our trip down the coast. Very easygoing host who was happy to let us come and go as we needed and provided a convenient site with power, water, and a trash can. It's a cute setup by the garden and we were grateful to refresh and recharge there. Our mosquito-attracting family had the tiny misfortune of arriving at dusk and got a few bites. Just wear long sleeves if you are in Eureka, CA in late May and enjoy Andrew's hidden gem if you can book it.

Camp Jade River is an absolutely beautiful camping spot. We didn’t get to enjoy it as much as we would have liked to, since we only got to stay one night. We would love to come back and stay longer. Pictures do not do it justice!

Roomy campsite with a nice view of the Klamath river. Brian was very friendly and helpful. Really beautiful scenic drive to the coast and redwoods. A little out of the way but nearby towns will have gas and staples. No cell signal, starlink works close to the house but not at the campsite--you can park in the driveway to use it to plan out your trip before heading out for the day.

Amazing spot. Camped with redwood trees, bathrooms and showers were clean, firewood for sale on site. And it was in the middle of the redwood state and national parks part of the PCH. Perfect spot to explore the area.

Weekend Trip to The Swimming Hole On Red Cap Creek

Had a great time! Wayne is a great host. When he finishes the camp bathroom/ shower this spot will be fully complete. Great spot to get away and enjoy the stars and peace in the forest. The swimming hole is absolutely rad. Nice deep spot to plunge in and there’s shallow area nearby to chill in the rocks. The dogs loved swimming down there maybe more than we did. Great fire pit and he provided wood for us. There is power at the site and he supplied an extension cord for our use as well. We met Coco the horse who wanders through the attached meadow and the ranch dog Cowboy. Had a great experience here and would definitely come back with friends. Great spot to spend the weekend exploring the area. We went to the Redwood National and State Parks. Saw a bear cub and a fawn on the drive back to Wayne’s. Superb weekend!

Weekend Trip to Redwoods Rest Stop

Stayed over Memorial Day weekend. This location was a good base camp for day trips to the Redwoods. We camped in a tent and recommend bringing a mover's blanket or similar to cushion between a tent and the gravel underneath. The area was quiet, road noise not bad and decreased at night. The dog and chickens were friendly and not intrusive. The hosts were easy to communicate with as well. Would recommend.

Weekend Trip to Animal Land

Best campsite ever! Wonderful views, very secluded, clean bathrooms, great amenities. We only saw the bald eagle (who's nest is right across the river) but maybe it wasn't yet the season (late May). It was a very comfortable stay, we enjoyed hanging out and enjoying nature there all day. Ken likes to get to know his guests, so you won't be totally alone, but its still very quiet and secluded. We didn't see or hear anyone all weekend and Ken would only come by around dinner time to say hello and tell us his stories. We hope to come back again when the animals are more active.

I was on a roadtrip on memorial day weekend and luckily Patti had a last minute tent spot for me! Patti is very friendly and was there to greet me and show me around. It's close to all sorts of redwoods which is what I was looking for. Thank you!

1 night at Redwoods Rest Stop

Site was fairly small but okay for our 20 ft Toyota motorhome. Site is surrounded on two sides by beautiful grass and trees. The road sits right below the site and gets fairly heavy traffic during day but pretty quiet at night. The host has a friendly dog that greeted us upon our arrival but wasn't seen afterwards. We were able to let our dogs off leash but kept them close because of the road. I would recommend this site if you are visiting the Eureka/Arcata area since it is close to both plus the fee is very reasonable.

Wow, what a beautiful place to camp! I lucked out and had the whole property to myself, but even if other people were there, I don't think I would have noticed much. You do hear the cars on the highway but it's not bad. Lots of space under the trees and mountains. Beautiful creek to fall asleep to. I'll be staying here again when I pass through!

Our property is located along a small creek with some dipping holes and a nice shaded creek to play in, there are great swimming holes near by to explore. We have a 21 hole professional disc golf course on the property as well as a gas station and The Salmon River Saloon (which is currently open by reservation only). We can accommodate large groups, however there are extra fees because have to bring in extra bathrooms. Disc golf course fees are included in camping fees. Note, the Salmon River road from Somes Bar to Cecilville is a one lane road with 2 way traffic and not recommended for those pulling trailer unless you are up for an adventure come via HWY 3 through Weaverville with a trailer if you are coming from the coast. Please note we are completely off Grid, there is no Cell service within 50 miles of the location.

The Klamath River is just over the levee—a short walk from your site—with great access for fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the water. The river is world-famous for salmon and steelhead fishing (license required). August and September are peak fishing months, so expect a few early morning engines from folks heading out. We’re only 4 miles off Highway 101, far enough to enjoy peace and quiet without traffic noise. Wildlife is part of the experience here, so please stash your food at night to keep critters out of camp. Outdoor lovers will find plenty to explore nearby—hiking and biking trails, the Trees of Mystery, Jet Boat Tours, and, of course, miles of redwood forest to get lost in. A few things to note: Firewood available Cell service can be spotty, depending on your carrier. Free Wi-Fi is available and reaches most of the campground. Electric car charging is $10 per charge. Redwoods Bend Retreat

The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service. Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

For sure bring your binoculars, and or a spotting scope, There is abundant wildlife to see, Bald eagle, osprey, otter, mink, deer, blue herons, fox, elk and black bears often. You can also hike or backpack into the Trinity Alps not far drive from here at Animal Land. At night, no city lights, so the STARGAZING is fabulous! Larger groups can book upon request should you want to book for more than 10 campers. Please note: RVs, campers, trailers, 24-25ft is the largest my camp can handle. LOOK out for bears, skunks, scorpions and beware of snakes, ticks. Please CONSERVE the WATER and the electricity. Keep a small fire and take care of your trash, I will recycle bottles, aluminum, cans for you. Just be CAREFUL all the time and ENJOY the Klamath River.
