Once you have made reservations you will receive an email with written directions that must be followed to find this magical place. This property has been in the family since 1922. During a time of no roads just the railroad that passed through, and a river ferry. At the entrance of the property was the town of Skelly, with a post office, train stop, animal corrals and railroad logging spurs. The lands primary use was ranching and timber back then. The flat that the camp ground is located on is the site of the old Larrabee school house after the 1955 flood took out the original school house. The railroad was closed indefinitely in 1996, which changed the entire landscape for this small community. This area is accessible by a low water bridge in the summer months and offers a spot to slip back in time. Today the land is a great example of sustainably harvest redwoods, a project that was established by great grandpa and is still in practice today. The timber surrounds the pastures and farm land that now produces hay. We acquired this land 5 years ago and have spent countless hours restoring the fields, managing the forest and creating a working sustainable environment. Our land is part of an old collectively owned by "back to the landers" group from the 70's. The parcel is over 500 acres, but our portion is about 40 acres. There is a large deepwater pond with a rowboat (and frogs) orchard, stream, and many hiking trails my husband created and dirt roads winding through the property. 420 friendly! Enjoy the birds in the morning and frogs on the pond at night from your well equipped tent with queen mattress and comfy comforters, sitting space, and wood counter for food prep. ( propane ok) No fires allowed at site but enjoy the large communal fire pit and terrace steps away. Our deep water pond (15 ft) is FULL and ready for warm summer swims. Wifi and electric for charging and an electric water kettle for coffee making is available at the communal space. EV charging is possible but slow off of our solar panels. Hiking trails on our 500 acre property and Lost Coast Trail at Shelter Cove Black Sands beach is 1 hour away. Ave of the Giants is 45 minutes away. We encourage 2 night stays as it is a bit of a trek to get here. Your hosts have everything you might need ( cooking wise) and can arrange for cooking equipment and utensils. Need Paella pans? Paella is our passion and we can offer a Paella Cookout customized to your dietary needs for an additional fee. We are 5 miles up a private dirt road ( 2 wheel drive is ok but caution to lower clearance vehicles) You will be deep in the relaxing forest. The 16 foot bell tent is quite large and can accommodate 2 more travelers. However they would need to provide sleeping bags and mats. Children under 10 not recommended The Chimes tent is slightly smaller 13 foot bell tent set on a platform 6 feet off the ground-- literally in the trees! We provide one citronella candle. Don't forget your headlamps. We are 35 miles (once on the pavement) to Lost Coast Trail and Shelter Cove. 20 miles to Ave of the Giants.

Such a great private retreat with our 3 pups! It has everything needed for a glamping getaway and more! Very clean all around. All amenities were there and taken care of well. Peaceful and absolutely beautiful! Nice swimming hole that we wished we could have jumped in but the weather was a bit chilly! We also stopped by the winery and met Leith who gave us a great rundown of the history which was a pleasant little bonus! We will come back next summer for a few more day with friends to enjoy!

Weekend Trip to Alpen Vineyard Hideaway

Alpen Vineyard Hideaway is wonderful! So thoughtfully created and operated. Coming to this glamping hideaway after a few nights of tent camping (which was lovely as well) was the perfect and comfortable way to end our multi-day camping trip! The Groves family have thought of nearly everything! The only recommended additions I would suggest guests bring are a tablecloth for the picnic table and a shade umbrella for the beach at the LOVELY swimming hole! Keith, the winemaker/owner, and his family clearly love what they do, and enjoy sharing the rich history of their special valley and vineyard with others! Thank you to the Groves family and all who help make the winery and lodgings so wonderful!

The campsite was wonderfully private and the perfect swimming spot. A great place for a quiet trip where we felt very safe at the site. Four wheel drive and a confident driver needed for the road in and out. Heather was a very friendly host with a sweet family and dogs. Very welcoming!

The Alpen Cellars campsite was so wonderfully quiet and peaceful with a view of the vineyard and mountains. It was equipped with all the essentials needed for cooking, the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom and shower facility clean, spacious and well equipped with soap, shampoo and also an assortment of sunscreen and bug spray in case you forgot your own. 100% would recommend staying here. A lovely escape that Mallory and Jeff clearly have put a lot of work into curating for guests. It feels very remote but with the comforts of a well-stocked camp kitchen, fast WiFi, and honestly one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on. The Rockslide Bar down the road is the perfect place to grab a drink or a bite to eat while hanging with the locals.

We loved camping/glamping at Alpen Cellar’s. The camp site we stayed at overlooked their vineyard. Such a beautiful place to relax!! We enjoyed the wine tasting and the recommendations for fishing and sightseeing around the area. We were grateful they shared the swimming hole with us so we could cool off on a hot summers day. We got to know our neighbors at the site next to us. Our sites were private and equipped with a cooking stove and utensils to use. Their bathroom and shower room were so thoughtfully decorated. I had so much fun at Radio Ranch!! I'd never camped in my life and they made my first time so easy. The instructions were really clear and it wasn't difficult at all to get to the site. There were so many amenities and the room was nice and clean. Would definitely come back to get the massage and use the tub :) Def recommend !

Such a sweet spot! They really thought of everything when creating this spot. It was so nice to have a clean shower and running water. In the kitchen they have all necessities. The firewood was a big plus. The tent was cozy and perfect for the two of us with plenty of extra room. We loved being in walking distance to the water. We couldn't believe the other site wasn't booked up! Definitely go out to the winery and hear the story of how it all started and visit the beautiful horses. A very special place!
