At the entrance of the property was the town of Skelly, with a post office, train stop, animal corrals and railroad logging spurs. The lands primary use was ranching and timber back then. The flat that the camp ground is located on is the site of the old Larrabee school house after the 1955 flood took out the original school house. The railroad was closed indefinitely in 1996, which changed the entire landscape for this small community. This area is accessible by a low water bridge in the summer months and offers a spot to slip back in time. Today the land is a great example of sustainably harvest redwoods, a project that was established by great grandpa and is still in practice today. The timber surrounds the pastures and farm land that now produces hay. We acquired this land 5 years ago and have spent countless hours restoring the fields, managing the forest and creating a working sustainable environment. Incredible swimming hole. There is a beautiful (AND rocky) beach that spans the river and provides a great place to spend the afternoon picnicking. Swim across for a some sun bathing on the rocks of jumping off that high ledge (we witnessed some daredevils)

We had a fabulous experience at Wendy and John's. The campsite was perfect under a full moon. We really appreciated the sparkling clean bathroom and shower. The dinner was amazing- a 5 course meal that rivaled any fine dining restaurant we ever experienced! Wendy and John are fantastic hosts in every respect. We enjoyed celebrating the election results together 11/4/25. We look forward to returning again and again.

Wendy and John are the best! The land is simply gorgeous and even though you're just a few minutes from town you really feel like you've gotten away. The creek provides a lovely background, free firewood is such a treat and the bathroom/showers make it so luxurious. We can't wait to go back!

It was the coziest cabin and friendliest people. The showers are nice and hot and water pressure is great.The weather got cold unexpectedly, and I was offered a heater for my little cabin. They have trash disposal, and a more than reasonably priced laundromat.

Weekend Trip to Bigfoot’s Coastal Hideaway

I'd love to keep this place a secret, but it is the perfect getaway. Beautiful property in the redwoods with a good mix of clearings and coverage. You can buy firewood on-site from a lovely and friendly family, which is a huge plus, and there's a big stinkin' water filter at the water spout. The place is well taken care of. Just don't leave your coffee unattended, the redwoods shed their needles year-round! Anyway, this spot is just what we were looking for. On our second day, we visited the Mendocino Botanical Gardens, just 10 minutes from the campsite. I highly recommend a visit if you stay here for more than one night.

Lovely large field. Great shower and bathroom. We really enjoyed the fruit crumble we ordered in advance. Our dog loved the grassy field and got along well with the resident dog. Ferndale was movie perfect. Super coffee shop and some good restaurant options. Beach was close by for a long walk. 10 out of ten.

What a wonderful stay! Wendy and John (and Louie the dog!) are warm, generous hosts! Our Tucked Away camping spot was just right as we made our way up the coast. It was a delight to go to sleep with the sounds of the ocean and wake to birds singing and cattle lowing. Shower was warm with excellent water pressure. Definitely recommend adding on Wendy’s delicious soup! Stop looking at your options! This is the one!

Weekend Trip to Bigfoot’s Coastal Hideaway

A wonderful campsite with a creek nearby. Huckleberries/Blueberries were there for us to pick but we did agitate some yellow jackets and I was bitten (there was a yellow jacket nest in the trees behind the Ravens Nest). It was a nice site with neighbors a good distance away for privacy. We did encounter many spiders especially under the picnic table, but it was fitting for the season and completely understandable. Overall we had a peaceful time! Definitely recommend setting up camp and venturing to Fort Bragg at least once during your trip, there are many shops and wonderful restaurants to explore. It was a wonderful experience at Bigfoots Coastal Hideaway, we hope to be back soon!

We were so glad we booked two nights at Wendy and John Farm! The setting was gorgeous, peaceful and pleasant. Wendy and John were great hosts - kind, accommodating and helpful. The sites are well spaced out, offering privacy, and the property is beautiful making it a tranquil setting. Being less than a mile from the beach the weather was perfect! It was also nice to find above standard bathroom facilities in two flushing restrooms. Highly recommend the dinner and dessert that are offered. We did both our first night and it was so nice to have that waiting for us after a day of travel and then set up. Wendy put together two fabulous dishes for us, going above and beyond what we expected. My only regret about this place is that it’s so far from home. Would love to come back more often as it was truly a delightful place to be for a couple days. Give it, and then, a FIVE STAR rating.

Weekend Trip to Camp Larabee - Secluded Redwoods

Amazing campsite! We are privileged that Gina opened up this unique site and made it available for others to experience. (If it was my property, I'd keep it to myself ; ) We stayed with 17' travel trailer and enjoyed being up-close and personal with the majestic redwoods. Sites are very spacious with or without other guests. Water and common areas are well planned and laid out. Gina's property is the perfect getaway to recharge and offers the ideal blend of historic Redwoods, open pastures, and very cool nearby bridges for exploring. Kids were happy, parents were happy, we'll definitely be back.
