Critters, bugs, and sometimes fellow Hipcampers can be sparce or prevalent pretty randomly. Because Underworld Farms is a working ranch, you will probably hear livestock noises like horses neighing, sheep and goats calling, and our protector dogs barking from time to time. We encourage you to walk over to the horses and goats and meet them. They especially like when you bring them carrots or apple pieces. The ranch has a double outhouse with a hand washing station sandwiched in between, it is rustic and bare bones. We check it to see if it has paper products, soap, water, and plenty of room in the trash bins. During the hotter months, the "daddy longleg" spiders enjoy infiltrating the outhouses and seem to spin new webs overnight. But they and their webs are harmless and easy to brush off. We ask for your assistance if there is something missing, or the trash needs taking out, or if the spiders have taken over again by getting ahold of us through the Hipcamp App and letting us know. With all that being said, there is an ambient beauty here that is unbelievable and memorable. This beauty and draw is so powerful that it causes the many people who come visit to make arrangements to live in our little valley. This bedroom also houses a King size bed, but also includes a comfortably sized bunk bed with two full mattresses and a single trundle pullout. This space also has a full bathroom and laundry room. The large garage makes for a great hang out area where you will find comfy sofas, a wood-burning fireplace, kids play area, TV and games. The main home exits to the patio area where you will find multiple cooking options: a propane Weber grill, a Big Green Egg grill & smoker, a pizza oven, a and charcoal grill and to toast your hands & feet, a built-in outdoor fireplace. Enjoy the night sky as you sit out under the stars with romantic string lights draped overhead and enjoy the fresh air while the fireplace or fire pit keep you warm. The property has direct and exclusive access to the Kern River where you can swim, tube, sunbathe and fish. You are welcome to pitch a tent by the river; however, we ask that you please notify us as the lawn irrigation is fully sprinkler operated. Just on the other side of the river you will find the California Living Museum (local zoo), Lake Ming, Kern River Golf Course, multiple riverfront picnic spots, Miracle Hot Springs up the mountain, hiking trails, nature walks. and more! Less than an hour up the road are wilderness camp sites and Lake Isabella. Continuing onward is the Sequoia National Forest where you can visit for the day knowing a comfortable & safe home will be welcoming your return. *No parties or events allowed (Please, no music or loud noises allowed outside of the home). This is a extremely quiet neighbrohood and noise travels fast & easily. Quiet hours are 10pm-8am. The property is equiped with noise monitoring devices and occupancy count devices, we will be notified if noise levels exceed a certain level. Additionally we will be notified if occupancy count exceeds the number of guests booked on site. *Smoking allowed outdoors only. *Shoes off inside the house. *Children MUST be supervised and monitored at all times. *No surprise guests, only those accounted for and registered can enter the property. *No firearms *Please do not put grease or solid food down the kitchen sink. We are the largest Arabian horse rescue in the United States. We are on 100 acres, but are currently using only 10 fenced acres for our horses. We have an average of 75 horses on our property. Most live in larger areas or paddocks in group "herds". We focus on rehabilitation and training with the goal of finding permanent homes for our horses. However, we have about 30+ horses who are "sanctuary horses", either because they are older, or were traumatized, or have health issues, thus will not be rideable. Autonomy Farms was such an amazing little place to stay. We stopped for a one night pitstop. Our hostess Meredith was super responsive and had clear communication. In one evening we got to do a little catch and release fishing (caught Bass and Bluegill) hung out with the farm puppies, and got to visit farm animals.

1 night at A Unique Mountain Retreat

My two boys and I stayed in the studio cabin. We had to rearrange our travel dates due to the weather. John couldn’t have been more flexible and accommodating in making sure our trip could still happen a few days later. The site had a beautiful view, a little kitchenette, shower and wood stove that kept us warm. We had great stargazing and the gas burning stove was perfect for chilly nights. John was the most welcoming host and made us feel very comfortable. We also enjoyed the nature trail on the site! Overall, a lovely place I would recommend if you want to slow down and enjoy some peace and quiet.

The views are amazing you have cell reception and are so close to amazing hikes and places to see. It’s definitely more of an RV or sleep in your car kind of spot so if you are in a tent I would probably bring a sleeping pad. Again great place loved my time there!

The whole site is fantastic. Ricardo and his brotherJamie welcomed me at the entrance helped me set up for the night. As an added plus they walked me through the extraordinary collection vintage cars and memorabilia collected at the museum. I can't say enough about their herculean efforts to restore one of America's historic small mining towns. Also, the site where the movie "CLAW" was filmed. Excellent place to stay going to or returning from Death Valley.

Weekend Trip to Kernville Ranch

Great location off the beaten path. Nice and quiet, with lots of critters to gawk at, domesticated and wild. Deer wandered by while we soaked in the hot tub watching horses, and at night we were serenaded by nearby coyotes. The property has lots of character itself and is near enough to Kernville proper to go out for a hot meal, browse its shops, or hunt-down Quartzburg ghost town (which I strongly recommend!).

I’ve been coming to this spot for 4 years and hands down it is one of my favorites! It is so relaxing to wake up next to the river. Very secluded and private. I’ve been in Summer and Fall and both times are amazing to visit. Hosts are very attentive with texting you check in details etc., and very sweet making sure you enjoy your stay. I almost want to keep this place my little hidden gem because I love it so much! I’ve sent all my friends the listening and everyone is always eager to book a trip. Do yourself a favor and stay here, it’ll be nothing short of magic!

My daughter just turned 17. Instead of a party she said, “I want to go camping with my friends and see the stars.” Which is awesome accept that the last time she went camping she was ten and her Dad and I did all of the heavy lifting and while I am sure she and her friends could have learned the hard way how to camp, since it was her birthday i wanted it to be special and easy. I searched on HipCamp and found, “Camping by the pond,” and, “Autonomous Farms.” I thought, “Oh. This is perfect.” I arrived before the girls and was greeted by the camp host, a white furry beautiful goddess named, Cleo, aka a Dog. I was alone but surrounded by goats, ducks, cows, chickens, peacocks, the sound of toads and other farm animals and Cleo hung by me as I unpacked the Wagoneer and set up the teepee, tent, sunshade, and birthday signs. I felt safe with Cleo as every time a car drive by, her ears shot up, her eyes went laser beam and her tail stood up. I knew, no matter what comes, Cleo is going to guard us. When my girls arrived, my new BF and I greeted them. On the first night, Cleo slept outside our tents and on day 2 she slept with the girls.
