Whitewater Cabin is in a stunningly remote location. Until recently, it was impossible to obtain any internet access at all. Thanks to Starlink, we now have fast satellite internet on site. Please note that it is normal for the system to drop out for periods of 30 seconds up to 2 minutes at a time since this is early stage technology.
STRONG WINDS
The winds in the desert are very strong between February and June which may limit your enjoyment of the outdoor amenities. We do all we can to navigate around the winds but cannot control the impact it may have on your stay.
POWER OUTAGES
The power is cut off for 8-12 hours at least twice a year by the electrical company in order for maintenance to be done (for instance in preparation for the fire seasons). We inform our guests of outages as soon as we are made aware but cannot control the time or manner in which this may impact your stay.
REFUNDS
Should any inconveniences such as those listed above or anything else beyond our control affect your stay, we will not provide refunds. Please understand certain things simply come with the windy, rural, desert location. Thank for understanding!
PETS
There is a one time, non-refundable pet fee of $80 per pet and no more than 2 dogs are allowed. We kindly request that any pets accompanying your reservation be specified under the "Extras" section. There are no homes visible -- and immediately adjacent to your camping spot, you'll find the trails of the San Bernardino National Forest, winding through hundreds of square miles of pure nature.
This property is quiet night and day, the perfect break from harried city life. The only sounds you're likely to hear are wind through the trees, and birds which glide from tree to tree. And when the brilliant colors of sunset subside, thousands of stars emerge to remind you of why the Milky Way got its name.

The Sky Ranch is adjacent to hundreds of square miles of forest. The famous Pacific Crest Trail, which stretches 2,663 miles from Canada to Mexico, passes just east of us.
This land is a perfect retreat — whether you’re escaping the city or taking a break from a PCT trek. Even on big holiday weekends, you'll be completely isolated from traffic and crowds.
In the Summer, Big Bear Valley offers countless hiking trails, boating and fishing in the lake, mountain and road biking, horseback riding, golf, ziplining, the zoo, and many other outdoor activities. In Winter, there's skiing/boarding, snowshoeing, sledding, and more.
For kids, there's a "fort," swings, and a huge sandbox in a boat. They're also welcome to help feed our chickens. That's always a big hit! And we have a telescope for stargazing.

The nearest stores and restaurants are within five minutes by car or bus. The center of Big Bear Lake is 10 to 20 minutes away, and offer scores of restaurants, boutiques, and galleries.
There are also two supermarkets, multiple drug stores, and a hospital.

For those seeking a true wilderness adventure, the San Bernardino Mountains offer spectacular terrain. While the Serranos have called these mountains home for many centuries, Europeans didn't venture into this rugged land till 1850. It's one of the youngest mountain ranges in the world (in geological terms) and features scores of steep, challenging peaks, which stretch from the natural hot springs of Deep Creek in the west, to huge Yucca forests in the east.
11,500-foot Mount San Gorgonio, named by Spanish missionaries in the early 17th century, is at the center of the first designated wilderness area in America. Also known as "Old Greyback," San Gorgonio and the 11 surrounding peaks over 10,000 feet are home to an extremely rare herd of bighorn sheep.
The headwaters of the Santa Ana and Mojave rivers offer premier wild trout streams such as Bear Creek, accessible only by foot.
Hundreds of miles of unpaved National Forest roads offer every type of off-road experience -- ranging from an easy drive to Pioneertown, to the most radical 4WD trails imaginable (11 Difficults, six Most Difficults). The Cabin is right in the middle of the major routes.
After a day here, you may find it hard to believe that you're just 100 miles (and perhaps a century) away from Downtown Los Angeles.

Useful Notes:
Dogs are always welcome, and a spacious dog corral is available. We do ask guests to pay an added fee of $5 per pup per day.
Propane stoves are OK, and we have a natural-gas BBQ grill available for use. Outdoor wood fires and/or lighter fluid are never allowed.
There is easy parking for any number of cars. RVs and trailers are no problem either. Total charges will depend of the number of guests and vehicles.
Cell phones on Verizon and Sprint will have coverage. The AT&T and T-Mobile networks still do not cover this area, however the wifi near our home enables calls/texts on most phones.
The public bus stop is a short walk. Surprisingly, it is possible to take public transit from any train station in SoCal all the way to our bus stop (and vice
versa). Cheaper than driving, and no worries about weather. Ask us for details.

Whitewater Cabin is in a stunningly remote location. Until recently, it was impossible to obtain any internet access at all. Thanks to Starlink, we now have fast satellite internet on site. Please note that it is normal for the system to drop out for periods of 30 seconds up to 2 minutes at a time since this is early stage technology.
STRONG WINDS
The winds in the desert are very strong between February and June which may limit your enjoyment of the outdoor amenities. We do all we can to navigate around the winds but cannot control the impact it may have on your stay.
POWER OUTAGES
The power is cut off for 8-12 hours at least twice a year by the electrical company in order for maintenance to be done (for instance in preparation for the fire seasons). We inform our guests of outages as soon as we are made aware but cannot control the time or manner in which this may impact your stay.
REFUNDS
Should any inconveniences such as those listed above or anything else beyond our control affect your stay, we will not provide refunds. Please understand certain things simply come with the windy, rural, desert location. Thank for understanding!
PETS
There is a one time, non-refundable pet fee of $80 per pet and no more than 2 dogs are allowed. We kindly request that any pets accompanying your reservation be specified under the "Extras" section. For those seeking a true wilderness adventure, the San Bernardino Mountains offer spectacular terrain. While the Serranos have called these mountains home for many centuries, Europeans didn't venture into this rugged land till 1850. It's one of the youngest mountain ranges in the world (in geological terms) and features scores of steep, challenging peaks, which stretch from the natural hot springs of Deep Creek in the west, to huge Yucca forests in the east.
11,500-foot Mount San Gorgonio, named by Spanish missionaries in the early 17th century, is at the center of the first designated wilderness area in America. Also known as "Old Greyback," San Gorgonio and the 11 surrounding peaks over 10,000 feet are home to an extremely rare herd of bighorn sheep.
The headwaters of the Santa Ana and Mojave rivers offer premier wild trout streams such as Bear Creek, accessible only by foot.
Hundreds of miles of unpaved National Forest roads offer every type of off-road experience -- ranging from an easy drive to Pioneertown, to the most radical 4WD trails imaginable (11 Difficults, six Most Difficults). The Cabin is right in the middle of the major routes.
After a day here, you may find it hard to believe that you're just 100 miles (and perhaps a century) away from Downtown Los Angeles.

Useful Notes:
Dogs are always welcome, and a spacious dog corral is available. We do ask guests to pay an added fee of $5 per pup per day.
Propane stoves are OK, and we have a natural-gas BBQ grill available for use. Outdoor wood fires and/or lighter fluid are never allowed.
There is easy parking for any number of cars. RVs and trailers are no problem either. Total charges will depend of the number of guests and vehicles.
Cell phones on Verizon and Sprint will have coverage. The AT&T and T-Mobile networks still do not cover this area, however the wifi near our home enables calls/texts on most phones.
The public bus stop is a short walk. Surprisingly, it is possible to take public transit from any train station in SoCal all the way to our bus stop (and vice
versa). Cheaper than driving, and no worries about weather. Ask us for details.
If you're bringing kids, let us know the ages. You may get a discount. :)
For equestrians, we have a two-acre horse corral, plus hay barn and covered stall.

Weekend Trip to The Cabins at Joshua Tree Lake RV
This cabin was everything I needed and more for a quick weekend of hiking and exploring Joshua Tree. Coming from out of state, I was able to roll in with my carry on and still have the camping-esque weekend of campfires and picnic table lounging that I was looking for. The main host is so kind, helpful to work with, and was prompt to reply to questions I had.
The place looked just as it does in the photos here and I thought the blankets and bedding far exceeded my expectations for a “dorm” hostel in the desert. The only thing I might add would be hooks. I lucked out and had the place to myself, but had there been others sharing the space, places to hang things would be really helpful in keeping the space organized.
I’d definitely recommend this hostel and consider staying again when I’m in the area :)

This place is spectacular. Secluded, safe, and thoughtfully decorated. Make sure you follow the hosts' directions and not Google Maps. We accidentally ended up on Winters Road and it was no fun. Highly recommend for anyone heading to Joshua tree!

1 night at Stargazer Cabin
Nice essential oils smell when we entered. Padlocked fence before entering the property, so felt safe. Good amenities. The hot tub was cold when we arrived and wasn't heating up, but that might have been a user error. Very responsive host, so I probably could have reached out and found a solution. The fridge had old food in it (cucumbers, opened drinks) but we didn't really care. The bathroom area was awesome. Loved the shower. The water took 10 minutes to heat up but then was hot after. Water pressure was pretty low. Wifi was strong. Enjoyed using the fire pit. The outdoor furniture on the patio was covered in dog hair, so we weren't able to use it. Overall a great stay!

Great location if you want to disconnect and enjoy some time to yourself and whomever you are with! The place was very. Lean, modern. Great time in the hot tub and around the fire. It was our dogs last trip and it was great to see him sniff around, enjoy the fire and just spend quality time. I would def have no problem recommending this property and host and/or re book this very property myself!

If you’d like to keep busy doing nothing, then this is the spot for you. Great little Place with great views all the way around.not too many neighbors around this property to obstruct the view of the greatness that it offers. Just about everything that you would need for kitchen is included with the rental and with a little bit of imagination, this property becomes more magical. Only thing I would recommend is for you to bring your own food whether it’s from the restaurant down the street or from home just to avoid driving the dirt roads.

Weekend Trip to The Cabins at Joshua Tree Lake RV
Didn’t feel well enough to go camping but found these lil hostel units and they were exactly what I needed! Staff was friendly and accommodating to my needs especially with friends dropping me off after hours. It’s about a 15 minute drive from town and 30 from the park. Layout can be confusing at first but after a couple laps you figure it out. Bathrooms are nice and clean and the building is lit up with colorful lights which makes it easy to find at night. The lake is nice for quiet morning strolls with the ducks. They also sell necessities in the main office including firewood, snacks, gloves, etc. The actual units are small but cozy. Beds are on the firmer end but not overly so, and the blankets provided are a bit small but fortunately I brought my own and the heater was easy to use. I had the unit all to myself so I can’t speak on how it would be with others, but overall if all you need is a warm bed and basic amenities this is a great choice :)

Stargazing and exchanging stories beneath the stars with my partner was truly magical it felt like our relationship created a core memory we’ll always be able to share. Visiting the town was wonderful as well, with so many charming little shops and the mountains rising beautifully in the background. Seeing Joshua Tree National Park for the first time was breathtaking. The sunrises and sunsets from this location were absolutely ethereal, the kind that make you pause and just take it all in.

Weekend Trip to Cozy Retreat in Joshua Tree
The space itself is very nice and the view of the night sky is incredible. However, based on our experience driving in a sedan without 4WD, we only recommend coming here if you're driving 4WD. The dirt/unpaved roads definitely necessitate that and we wish we'd known the severity of the roads more than a few days in advance to prepare. Otherwise, the cabin is super clean and comfortable.
