Wondernut Farm is an upstart, entirely off grid, working farm-stead being built from the ground up. We breed milking goats and sheep, heritage pigs, and are in the process of converting to a grade A dairy and creamery! We use organic practices, management intensive rotational grazing, and dryland pasture management. We sell our animals locally so that others can have their own milking and meat animals. Our 110 year old hay barn and the roof of the former lumber mill were all we had to work with in getting off the ground.

Our hearts are, and always will be, educational and local community focused, and we work closely with farmers and friends alike in better understanding our innovative animal husbandry, power, pasture and water systems. Our location is stunning and historic, and the beauty of the wild, natural landscape is powerful, yet offers easy access to both Yosemite Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. The area features excellent road and mountain biking in the immediate vicinity, vast access to hiking and backpacking trails, a huge variety of rock climbing in the area, the best whitewater rafting in California on the Tuolumne River, with some tasty places to eat or drink coffee in the nearby town of Groveland, just 10 minutes away.
Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets.
Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks.
Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

We love hiking down to the river. Very private; seldom do you come across other people.
Amador brewing, Solid Ground brewing and the world famous Poor Reds are about 30 minutes away.

The kitchen has a vintage stove with four burners and two ovens, microwave, toaster oven, and sink. You will also have access to a full size refrigerator. Outside is a propane bbq with two side burners for your use.
There is one bedroom with a full bed and in the living room is a trundle bed that converts to two twins.
We have installed hardwood laminate flooring throughout guesthouse; some of the pictures show the prior cement floor.
There is wifi, Verizon and At&t get good reception. We use our phones for internet and streaming. There is a 50 inch TV and dvd player. Bring your own hardware/cords if you want to stream from your phone.
We have goats if you would like to feed or with.
My wife and I live on the property in a house about 200 feet away. You will have as much privacy/interaction as you desire. Our garage is attached to the guesthouse, so I may need to access it occasionally during your stay. We also travel so you may have the property to yourself.
We do have two dogs on the property. The Australian healeris very friendly. The Anatolian shepherd is a watch dog so he will bark at you upon arrival and then settle down and leave you alone. You may hear him barking at night at any moving wildlife (deer, turkey, etc.).
The last 4.5 miles of the drive to the property is on a winding road. Please drive carefully.

We have owned our 20 acre ranch for 12 years.
We enjoy the peace and quiet and beautiful views surrounded by oak trees.
We love hiking down to the river. Very private; seldom do you come across other people.
Amador brewing, Solid Ground brewing and the world famous Poor Reds are about 30 minutes away.

About a 30 minute drive to numerous wineries and the foothill towns of Plymouth and Placerville.
The kitchen has a vintage stove with four burners and two ovens, microwave, toaster oven, and sink. You will also have access to a full size refrigerator. Outside is a propane bbq with two side burners for your use.
There is one bedroom with a full bed and in the living room is a trundle bed that converts to two twins.
We have installed hardwood laminate flooring throughout guesthouse; some of the pictures show the prior cement floor.
There is wifi, Verizon and At&t get good reception. We use our phones for internet and streaming. There is a 50 inch TV and dvd player. Bring your own hardware/cords if you want to stream from your phone.
We have goats if you would like to feed or with.
My wife and I live on the property in a house about 200 feet away. You will have as much privacy/interaction as you desire. Our garage is attached to the guesthouse, so I may need to access it occasionally during your stay. We also travel so you may have the property to yourself.
We do have two dogs on the property. The Australian healeris very friendly. The Anatolian shepherd is a watch dog so he will bark at you upon arrival and then settle down and leave you alone. You may hear him barking at night at any moving wildlife (deer, turkey, etc.).
The last 4.5 miles of the drive to the property is on a winding road. Please drive carefully.

My two dogs and I had a very nice stay at this Hipcamp location. The hosts were responsive and helpful. The cabin is cozy, with a fully stocked kitchen, board games, DVDs, and a very useful binder with local information and things to do. The property is wooded and hilly, with paths cut through it, multiple seating and eating areas, and plenty of outdoor activities/games.. Nights were quiet (I did hear shooting practice down the road for a couple of hours one day). Overall, a relaxing and exceptionally well-set-up place to stay, particularly for a group..

Matt + Eve and their amazing staff were beyond warm and welcoming during my stay, making me feel right at home. Everyone was respectful of leaving space for solitude while also being friendly and fun/easy to converse with.
The cabin itself is super cute, but partly open-air making it pretty cold this time of year, esp when the sun isn’t on it. I would recommend bringing tons of warm base layers to sleep in or consider booking one of the other cabins with a heat source if you’re feeling unsure!
Overall I had an amazing time and would happily return.

Weekend Trip to Cosumnes River Ranch
Wow what an absolutely beautiful property. Rachel and Jon are very kind and helpful. We enjoyed a few hours of hiking around the property. Loved seeing so much wild life and the sweet cows that graze around the property. I can see why summer would be a more enjoyable time to visit.
We stayed in cabin # 2 and although a very beautiful spot and cabin, For the $480 for 2 nights price I was surprised there wasn’t sheets/blankets or a propane stove or bbq or some way to cook food. so make sure you bring anything necessary to cook food and linens and blankets for the bed. There is a fire pit outside but no grill or way to cook food. It does have a wood stove inside as a heat source so make sure you also bring firewood especially in the colder months.

Weekend Trip to Cosumnes River Ranch
Exceeded our expectations! The swimming hole was beautiful and the river was great for kayaking. It is shared with the other cabin so it’s a great spot to get with friends and rent both out. We got lucky and the second cabin wasn’t occupied. It is very private and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. There was a portable toilet really close which was super convenient! We went to the pond near by and caught a couple huge bass! It sure is a hidden gem. Can’t wait to go back!

Had a wonderful time at this site! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how open and spacious the property is. There’s so much room to spread out, relax, and really take in the natural beauty of the area. Whether you’re coming with family, a group of friends, or bringing your dogs along, this place has the perfect setup to make everyone feel at home and comfortable.
The cabin was clean, cozy, and incredibly well-stocked with everything we needed — you can really tell a lot of thought and care has gone into making it feel welcoming. The site also offers a great selection of games and activities, which kept both the kids and adults happily entertained for hours. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Steven and Michelle were so kind and super responsive to any questions or needs we had.

Weekend Trip to Wondernut Farm
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Wilderness Bridge for two nights and had a wonderful experience. The farm is peaceful and beautifully maintained, offering a relaxing environment throughout our stay. Matt and the people living on the farm were warm and welcoming, and their hospitality made us feel at home. We especially enjoyed the friendly dogs on the property and the stunning views that surrounded us. The Wilderness Bridge itself is about a 10-minute hike, and the view at the top is truly remarkable and well worth the effort. Overall, this was a memorable stay, and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking a quiet and scenic retreat.

5 nights at Unplug for nature, dogs, and kids
We loved our time at the cabin. The trees provided a wonderful respite from the heat. We had deer drinking at the stream nearly every day. The thoughtful touches that Steven and Michelle have put into the both the cabin and the surrounding area made our vacation very special.

Steven and Michelle’s place was exactly what we needed! We have a pretty spacious yurt we were looking to pitch and their property provided more than enough space. The dogs loved the grounds and with the games and activities throughout, we never got bored. In enjoying our downtime I wanted to take advantage of the outdoor cooking options and got a chance to smoke a chicken and grill a bunch(we enjoyed it so much, when we got home we promptly bought a smoker and a grill). Of course at night, we took advantage of the fire pit and the screen for projecting movies. This place was everything we’d hope for.

We had an amazing weekend at this cozy cabin! From the start, Robin was an incredible host, he provided detailed and thoughtful information about the cabin, which made everything so easy. This spot offers breathtaking views that honestly rival some national parks. Michele was incredibly warm and thoughtful — she had everything set up perfectly at the campsite. Walking along the old railroad tracks, you get to enjoy a variety of stunning landscapes — from cliffs and lakes to beautiful overlooks of Jamestown. The cabin was super cozy. It was my first time camping and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction!

We loved our stay at Matt and Eve’s farm. We stayed there 3 nights so we could go to Yosemite. So much quieter than the Valley. We took the YART into Yosemite each day leaving Groveland. No park reservations needed! The buses were empty.
Our final morning we hung out at the farm and learned so much about raising sheep and homesteading from Matt and Eve.

4 nights at Cosumnes River Ranch
Love this place! It's great for families, couples, groups or individual camping and dogs. Yes.. there is limited wifi, no electricity, or other modern conveniences other than the porta-poti. But by far it has the most beautiful river in northern California within 50 feet of your campsite. What makes the river so nice is it's not rushing and cold like the American River. It's comfortable and safe to swim, float, paddleboard or kayak. Most times when we rented cabin 1, we rarely saw anyone on the river going down 1 mile or so.. it felt like our own private wilderness. We've always visited in July and August to get the best river conditions.
Rachael and the staff are always welcoming and available by text or call.
I highly recommend staying here for at least 3-4 days to relax and recover from civilization.
