Gather around the propane operated firepit in the backyard for some R&R. Bring a hammock 'cuz there are unlimited opportunities for stringing one up! Tons of activities will keep you occupied, including hiking and biking on the nearby Arizona Trail (just 1/2 mile away), or even sledding on your very own private 2 acre piece of paradise! What's even better is the property backs onto the National Forest, for unlimited enjoyment of nature. In the evening crack open a book, or start playing a game with your besties to close out a long day. The property is completely off the grid, making it very appealing to those travelers and adventurers who want to create a minimal carbon footprint on their vacation. The kitchen sink has a hand pump that draws water from under the sink from a 10 gallon water jug. You can refill the jug as needed from a hand pump located in the back yard. There is solar powered lighting and a USB phone charger station. There is no electrical power available. Cell service is available in the area depending on your carrier. The outdoor composting toilet is super clean with little or no odor. The cabin is located at 8200' in the San Francisco Peaks in the pines and aspens. Snowshoe or cross country ski, go sledding or snowmobiling, or just good old fashioned relaxation will make the time fly by. During a snowy period, access may require either cross country skiing, snowshoeing or snowmobiling to the property from the main highway (approx 2.1 miles). If you get stuck on the road it will be your own responsibility. Please check with the owner a couple days prior to your visit to check on road conditions during the winter!

and the popular red rock hiking sites. There are many wineries and dining right down the road to enjoy.

There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area.
Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream.
Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature.
Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects.

We offer a RURAL, rustic camping experience. Our property is off-grid thus we cannot offer you any sort of facilities or services at this time. We chose Outpost in our name because we believe it provides an accurate description: An outpost is a remote, isolated station, settlement, or camp located at a distance from the main body.
Our property is 7.4 miles down a dirt Indian Route road through a significant wash and while 4 wheel drive is ideal, you can make it in nice weather conditions without 4 wheel drive. Keith’s sister made it in her Chevrolet Sonic, for example. Large RVs may scrape along the way; we did with our 40' fifth wheel.
Our 60 acre property offers a unique experience for those looking for a place to unplug and explore with plenty of privacy and room to roam. You'll enjoy incredible views of the Painted Desert, Gray Mountain, and the San Francisco peaks. The night skies will be unlike anything you’ve seen unless you have been in the middle of the ocean with no light pollution.
Some important things to note about our property:
Our property will always and forever be a Safe Place for all people. We hold no prejudices regardless of race, ethnicity, or creeds. Our guests will always be respected, loved and welcome and it must be that way with other guests.
We are a clothing optional campground, which means you may, if you so choose, be naked on our property.
We are pet-friendly. We have two medium size puppies. Let's ensure our furry friends have as much fun as we are having by keeping them on a leash and we clean up after them. We also wouldn't want them to chase away the wild mustangs, which are beautiful to see in full gallop, that will come through the property from time to time.
NOTICE: As a rural desert location you or your pet may encounter wildlife (nice and not so nice ones) while on the property or hiking around in the wilderness.
We hope you want to disconnect. While Starlink is available, your cell phone likely will not have service.

The well stocked kitchen has all the cookware and utensils you'll need for cooking, a propane range, as well as a cooler for your use (bring ice). A gas barbecue is on site as well. The wood stove kicks out a ton of heat to keep you toasty while you sip on steamy hot chocolate that is provided for your enjoyment. Gather around the propane operated firepit in the backyard for some R&R. Bring a hammock 'cuz there are unlimited opportunities for stringing one up! Tons of activities will keep you occupied, including hiking and biking on the nearby Arizona Trail (just 1/2 mile away), or even sledding on your very own private 2 acre piece of paradise! What's even better is the property backs onto the National Forest, for unlimited enjoyment of nature. In the evening crack open a book, or start playing a game with your besties to close out a long day. The property is completely off the grid, making it very appealing to those travelers and adventurers who want to create a minimal carbon footprint on their vacation. The kitchen sink has a hand pump that draws water from under the sink from a 10 gallon water jug. You can refill the jug as needed from a hand pump located in the back yard. There is solar powered lighting and a USB phone charger station. There is no electrical power available. Cell service is available in the area depending on your carrier. The outdoor composting toilet is super clean with little or no odor. The cabin is located at 8200' in the San Francisco Peaks in the pines and aspens. Snowshoe or cross country ski, go sledding or snowmobiling, or just good old fashioned relaxation will make the time fly by. If that's not enough check this out:(a) it's just 5 miles to the Arizona Nordic Center for incredible cross country ski trails(b) it's just 18 miles to Snowbowl for chairlift rides or world class skiing(c) it's just 20 miles to the hip town of Flagstaff for fantastic restaurants, golfing, shopping, coffee shops and museums(d) it's just 60 miles to historic Williams with the Bearizona wildlife park and the popular Grand Canyon Railway(e) it's just 55 miles to the world famous Grand Canyon. (f) It's just 50 miles to gorgeous Sedona, making it a perfect day trip! (g) and last but not least, it's right next to the Kendrick Snowmobile Trails, which offers 54 miles of unbeatable snowmobile adventures! The property is located approximately 2.1 miles off the main highway down a forest service road. The road is in excellent shape during the summer months. During winter you MUST have a 4WD vehicle to access the property, particularly if there has been a significant snowfall recently. During a snowy period, access may require either cross country skiing, snowshoeing or snowmobiling to the property from the main highway (approx 2.1 miles). If you get stuck on the road it will be your own responsibility. Please check with the owner a couple days prior to your visit to check on road conditions during the winter!
Pets must be well behaved and cleaned up after, including excessive animal hair. Leash laws apply to Coconino National Forest. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area.
Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream.
Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature.

Our property is 7.4 miles down a dirt Indian Route road through a significant wash and while 4 wheel drive is ideal, you can make it in nice weather conditions without 4 wheel drive. Keith’s sister made it in her Chevrolet Sonic, for example. Large RVs may scrape along the way; we did with our 40' fifth wheel.
Our 60 acre property offers a unique experience for those looking for a place to unplug and explore with plenty of privacy and room to roam. You'll enjoy incredible views of the Painted Desert, Gray Mountain, and the San Francisco peaks. The night skies will be unlike anything you’ve seen unless you have been in the middle of the ocean with no light pollution.
Some important things to note about our property:
Our property will always and forever be a Safe Place for all people. We hold no prejudices regardless of race, ethnicity, or creeds. Our guests will always be respected, loved and welcome and it must be that way with other guests.
We are a clothing optional campground, which means you may, if you so choose, be naked on our property.
We are pet-friendly. We have two medium size puppies. Let's ensure our furry friends have as much fun as we are having by keeping them on a leash and we clean up after them. We also wouldn't want them to chase away the wild mustangs, which are beautiful to see in full gallop, that will come through the property from time to time.
NOTICE: As a rural desert location you or your pet may encounter wildlife (nice and not so nice ones) while on the property or hiking around in the wilderness.

My family and I truly loved this campsite. It was our kids’ very first camping adventure, and it exceeded all expectations. From the amenities to the beautiful views and easy hikes, everything was wonderful.
What made our stay especially memorable was how welcomed and cared for Laura and Bruce made us feel. Laura is incredibly kind and knowledgeable—she took the time to teach the kids about the animals and how to stay safe, and even let them tag along while she helped other campers. They adored her so much that they wanted her to join all of our activities!

What a unique surprise this was! The camp sites sit atop a cliff overlooking the spring and grotto. The swimming hole beneath is cold and refreshing-we had a ball taking a dip. Cool outdoor shower or more traditional as well as a sweet little community room with kitchen. Gary and Darren are so thoughtful and have little touches of creativity and care everywhere!

This is a great location. Right off hwy 17 close to Cottonwood, with big box stores for your needs, and only 30 minutes to Sedona and all the surrounding beautiful red rock trails. Verde River runs North side of the property with a nice shady place to walk your dog. Even swim your dog in the river. We camped on the top of the hill under the shade canopy and really appreciated that. The place is huge and very well run.

We had a wonderful stay. Holly was great, and really made it a special experience for my son with all of the animals. We spent two days in Sedona, and my son said the highlight was still the ranch. We would highly recommend!

The site was well maintained and easy to find. The site was clean and pretty. The little holes and excursions were perfect for my 6 year old and I. It was cool waking up to the sound of rooters, turkeys a donkey and of course a fun visit from buddy. We didn’t not use any accommodations other than the trash. But it was nice to know it was there. Perfect experience for my fist time camper and anyone not looking to fight for spots on BLM.

Where to go
Red Rock Country
A short drive south of Flagstaff, Arizona’s Red Rock Country is characterized by beautiful red sandstone rock formations and plenty of great hiking and camping opportunities. This region is also home to the bohemian-chic city of Sedona, which has some of the region's best spas, resorts, and art galleries.
Grand Canyon Area
Grand Canyon National Park is north of Flagstaff, with many visitors hitting the city specifically to visit the park. While the canyon and its surrounding national park are the star attraction in this wild region, there are other nearby areas to camp, hike, and play outside too, like in the Kaibab National Forest.
Phoenix Surrounds
If you're in the mood for a bit more urban adventure, the massive Phoenix metro area has you covered. Along with a variety of museums and other cultural attractions, you'll find hiking, camping, and swimming to the west of town in the Tonto National Forest.
When to go
The Flagstaff area attracts visitors throughout the year, with hot, dry summers and cool winters that sometimes get snowfall. Summer is busiest, with hot days and cool nights, when refreshing summer thunderstorms are not uncommon in July and August. For the most pleasant weather without the crowds, consider visiting between September and November, when area kids have already returned to school for the year, but temperatures have yet to drop.
