Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. The campground was so beautiful. It was very private, had a decent amount of space from other campsites. There was a nice amount of trees/ greenery. The bathroom was clean. Laura was so friendly and very kind. We didn’t have enough time to walk down to the creek but we’re definitely planning on going back and check it out.

I had an amazing time at this campsite! It’s nestled in the woods, surrounded by shady trees, and has plenty of space to set up your tent. I stayed at site 7, which was pretty flat and had soft, easy-to-sink ground for my tent stakes. The sounds from the surrounding area were incredible - I heard a rooster, cows, owls, and a donkey. It felt super secluded, and if you venture into the woods, there’s a pond that’s perfect for taking photos. I made a delicious dinner and enjoyed sitting around the campfire. In the morning, I was greeted by a friendly Hipcamp doggy who hung around for a bit. Overall, it was a lovely place, and the town nearby is close by with restaurants and shops.

1 night at Richard Wizardy's Cynosure Project

Richard's property is eclectic and fun to wander. He met Mr a the gate and I was immediately introduced to two wonderful livestock dogs. Once we met, they were my friends and guardians as I wandered the property. Richard is the kindest man and shared lots of stories. The property is full of fun art from past burning man ventures. I think this guy could build anything you could imagine. There are goats, ducks, and a green house where he grows good own vegetables. He and a friend are planning on growling micro greens in a contraption they built. This spot was a lot of fun and the perfect place to spend time and relax. If you are not into being in a chill atmosphere, animals and some duck poop, them stay clear. But if you want to experience a fun piece of property then this is the place. Make sure you get to know Richard and ask for a tour. You won't regret the experience.

We had a wonderful camping experience in the cottonwood grove. The site was easy to get to, well laid out with generous space to the other campsites, and quiet. The availability of toilets and water for washing were welcome amenities. I will be staying again on trip back to the area.

Laura was super sweet! There were very clear instructions on how to get in! The bathroom was super clean it had a flushing toilet and running water. She also had farm animals that were so friendly. Her dogs are the absolute cutest and super friendly! The campsite was so nice and very spacious. It had a table and fire pit with logs to sit on! The walk to the creek was super pretty and well maintained! We really enjoyed staying here!

Beautiful property near the creek. Clean with a nice little bathroom set up. Laura was incredibly helpful and nice. Got a peek at the alpacas and goats in the morning. Some freeway noise from busy I-17, but other than that perfect place.

We were very comfortable at site 7. There is tons of space set up tents. We were able to fit 4 tents and 1 large EZ up style canopy with plenty of room to spare. The ground is also not super hard and Rocky, it is relatively easy to hammer in and remove tent stakes. There is signage to direct you to your proper campsite. My friend who came in a Kia Spectra was able to get onto the property with no problems. The porta-johns were clean. Fellow campers were quiet and courteous. It was honestly almost like we didn't even have neighbors, which was nice. The camp host's dog Buddy did absolutely make a special appearance in the morning. The dog was super friendly and loving. Overall this was quite a pleasant experience and I would be happy to camp with this host again.

A little tricky to find but the perfect distance away from civilization. The gounds were well maintained, lots of shade, benches, places to walk and peace. Site #6 i knew was the one for us since it was far from the other sites and you really felt a lot of privacy. Hoping to bring more friends next time!

The Otterlimits was the perfect spot for us to regroup on our road trip. The mesquite grove lends to the peaceful atmosphere. The property itself, butts up to the National Forest, and is a short walk to the Verde River, and a floaters take out. On down the road is an amazing view of the river and rock formations, with a view of cliff dwellings and picnic tables. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here!
