Welcome to the San Luis Valley; the largest Alpine Valley in the world! San Luis Valley is a region in south-central Colorado with a small portion overlapping into New Mexico. The valley is approximately 122 miles long and 74 miles wide, making it the largest alpine valley in the world. It extends from the Continental Divide on the northwest rim into New Mexico on the south. This campground sits close to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. I encourage binoculars or even a telescope to view wildlife and check out the Rockies and then the night sky views! Looking to submerse yourself in nature? The Sangre de Cristo Range in Colorado contains the following 14ers: Blanca Peak, Challenger Point, Crestone Needle, Crestone Peak, Culebra Peak, Ellingwood Point, Humboldt Peak, Kit Carson Peak, Mount Lindsey, and Little Bear Peak. Great Sand Dunes are visible from every site. With unlimited mountain views, beautiful starry night skies, come see the Milky Way, Eclipse, even Meteor showers!!! History: this land was originally part of a large cattle ranch in the 1980s. The main ranch is still up and running but this parcel was used for many purposes over the years. In 2021, we were featured in USA Todays Ten Best for star gazing! My property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all! You will be surrounded by BLM land, BACA land, and Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Be sure to bring extra bug spray and protection needed against biting insects such as flies, gnats, and mosquitoes. For those bringing your pets, they MUST be on a leash/lead at all times. While I do not have much cactus on my property, I do have an abundance of greasewood (Chico brush) which is very thorn-like if stepped on. Accommodations for those with livestock or horses, just make sure you chat in advance your initial message. Close to BLM, and National Forest as well as 3 hot springs within 20 miles and the Great Sand Dunes. We are still under construction and making changes often so bear with us while we continue to add and change things for the better!

Great stay - Great Views

Christine was wonderful! Super friendly, communicative and helpful. We came to see the Sand Dunes and Hot Springs. The hot springs are only 20 minutes away and Sand Dunes were about an hour. You can’t really beat the views from the Valley. Gorgeous mountains and there’s a map to help you name all the peaks. We stayed a couple nights in a tent and it was extremely quiet with beautiful stars. The shrubs a bushes do offer quite a bit of privacy as well. Gas stations are sparse out here! Keep that tank full 😀.

We absolutely loved camping here. The views were spectacular and the site was plenty big enough for our camper, tent, and 2 cars. Our dogs enjoyed the fenced in dog park a short walk from our site. We can’t wait to camp here again in the near future!

Camping but with a mountain view!

Tent site 6 was amazing! There was plenty of room and it was the closest site to the mountain view. The campground is VERY quiet and peaceful. It's so far from the road that there was no road-noise at all! We saw the milky way at night, which was so special. Christine was an excellent host and very responsive to questions! The only downside is the walk to the port-a-port from site 6, but I would rather have the unobstructed mountain view!

Solid option in the San Luis Valley

This is a great basecamp in the San Luis Valley for visits to Great Sand Dunes National Park, stargazing, and any sort of fishing in the Rio Grande (e.g., South Fork, Creede). Tent campsite #1 is nearby and, if occupied, you will be looking at other campers when looking out at the gorgeous Sangre de Cristo range. Tent campsite #1 was, however, unoccupied and not an issue for us at all. The host is an excellent communicator and accommodating too. Will return!

Late September visit with the pup!

We loved camping here! Check in was very easy and the firewood we preordered was easy to find - the owner also responded quickly when we asked where it was. The site itself was extremely beautiful with great mountain views and gorgeous stargazing at night. We could hear all of the wildlife in the quiet area, and the site was quite big with a nice fire pit and picnic table. It was also really cool hearing the coyotes in the mountains at night! We will definitely return!

Camping with amazing views!

The views at the tent site were amazing. And you do get some signal while you’re there! We checked out the porta potty and it was actually decent, like a regular porta potty. Our site (#6) was the closest one to the mountains and had a picnic table + camp fire area. Would recommend this area!

This was a wonderful place to get away from it all. There are other campsites, but they are very well dispersed and being off-season. There were not many others there. You really got the sense that you were out in nature. You have 360° view of Mountains, changing weather patterns, mountain storms, etc. there’s a Dollar General close by, great Sand dunes Park nearby. But otherwise it was a real pleasure staying there and getting away from it all. Christine was very accommodating.

High Peaks Campground-wouldrecommed

Campsite was great! Clean, spacious, har WiFi and a spout for drinking water. Site also had a picnic table and fire pit. There were beautiful views as well and less than an hour drive to sand dunes. I would recommend staying here!

Campsites are pretty small and on top of each other. Wifi doesn't reach to most of the campsites - you have to go close to the house/office, which makes sense but isn't really advertised. Site had trash on it when I arrived and the picnic table was half broken. Also unsure why they needed a signed release for my likeness. That's usually for marketing purposes but it seems strange given the only footage they have of me (hopefully) is from the security camera at the little hut where you sign it. Idk what other imagery of me they would have? I hope there wasn't other recording happening elsewhere or that they won't use it for weird internet stuff. Potapotty was adequately serviced. Great views of the mountains and the desert. Not the worst but not worth the price imo. Also believe the reviews about mosquitoes!! I've never encountered so many at one time. That's just nature for you in this area especially but be prepared.

This was an INCREDIBLE site to stay at! So private, just under an hour to the Sand Dunes, Gator Farm, and close to hot springs! We absolutely loved it and Christine was a perfect host and so so helpful. Will definitely come and stay again!

Dumb waiver signing

Beautiful campsite with a few odd things; you have to sign a waiver that says they can use your likeness? I’ve never been to a campsite that requires that, nor will I probably ever again. Why is there a dog fee?? That makes no sense for a campsite. Mosquitos were crazy. I also tried to communicate with the host through hipcamp, and through text and she never responded. It would be one thing if she said she wasn’t available, but she gave her number to be able to ask questions. Again, this place is gorgeous but I’m not Entirely happy because of the aforementioned things.

High Peaks-Best Peaks

Nestled between the San Juan's and the Sangre de Cristo range.....what's there not to love? Christine's High Peaks Campground was great, both for location and stellar hosting. Close enough to the Dunes and the cute little town of Crestone. Communication was a bit delayed due to me being off grid without internet, but no problem. She was very responsive and available. There was a switch in sites which worked out totally in my favor; I stayed in the best site with the best views on the property, #17. Christine was very understanding and accommodating of my lack of trailer skills (I flunked Trailer Back-up 101 and 102). And, it was great to have bathrooms (pit and outhouse) and potable water to fill my tank and hose down my trailer and car; the road to St. Elmo was a bit messy. It did rain; the storm winds were memorable and the mosquitos came out to party, so be prepared. Great place, great stay. Thank you, Christine!

Great option for a short stay

We set up 2 tents on site 3 during the first weekend of July 2024, we could see the Great Sand dunes from our site, and had a panoramic view of the Sangre de Christo range. The night sky was incredible. The porta potty was well maintained ; probably the cleanest of its kind I've ever utilized. The ground is very sandy, and we had a sagebrush (or similar) root puncture the bottom of our tent. We should have remembered our tarp. There is no shade, so an awning is a must in the afternoon sun. There were just a handful of other campers utilizing the campground. I think I misunderstood the description, and thought potable water was available to the campground at large, however we only saw spigots at a few of the RV sites, and had to make due with the water we brought with us, plus a re-stock at the nearby Dollar General. In summary- it was a great stay, just be sure to pack your ground tarp, an awning and plenty of water.

Awesome spot! We really enjoyed our time at site 18! It was definitely the most private and secluded spot, which is exactly what we wanted. Very clean, nice fire pit and having a dumpster on site was appreciated. We were closest to the county road but weren’t bothered by it one bit. Our dog does not like other dogs encroaching on our space and we had no issues with any other dogs and all campers seemed to be very respectful as well. We did however hear lots of coyotes each night which was incredible but unnerving to our dog, so just a heads up there! The star gazing at night and views of the mountains are absolutely unmatched.

Christine’s property is beautiful. The camp spots are spaced out enough but sound definitely carries in this valley. Thankfully campers followed Christine’s quiet time rules. Is he was friendly and when we mentioned that we couldn’t get a signal to let our sons know we arrived, she said we were welcome to sit on her porch and connect since our spot was too far away for a connection. The port-a-potty was also clean, didn’t smell, and Christine had anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizer in it. I appreciated the addition of the wipes because I could wipe the seat and feel more comfortable using it. We have T-Mobile and our service blinked out after leaving the highway so if you have the same, you might want to take pics of the route to her place just to keep you on track. Other than that, it’s easy to get to. All in all, a great place to be. We’d definitely stay again. Thanks Christine!

A good spot to explore the Great Sand Dunes. A lot of tent campers while we were there. A spacious RV area that had great stars at night. Only negative was the electric hookup would trip our surge protector but we have a great solar and lithium so it was not needed. For some reason we had no bug issues until the morning we left and then mosquitos were in full force. We loved the quiet and solitude of the location.
