THIS IS FOR SELF-CONTAINED UNITS ONLY! ***PLEASE CONFIRM IN YOUR REQUEST TO BOOK THAT YOU HAVE YOUR OWN TOILET! Our 33+ acre, picturesque, tranquil property is situated in the Tamihi Recreational Area just south of Chilliwack, British Columbia. Three sides of the property are heavily forested with the Chilliwack River bordering the fourth side. It's only 20 minutes from town but far enough to enjoy the peaceful and serene offerings of nature. The property has a 20 x 60' covered picnic area, a large beach suitable for swimming in summer and fall, and it is also a world-class fishing spot. It has unlimited mountain trails and logging roads for ATVs, mountain bikers/hikers and with Class I - IV rapids, is also a fantastic area for whitewater kayaking and rafting. The national kayaking team trains just up from us and Chilliwack River Rafting is very close by. We occasionally host weddings in the meadow and covered picnic area as well. Your QUIET, well-mannered, leashed (at all times) pet is welcome as long as you pick up after them. There is a minimum of 3 nights on long weekends. Children MUST be accompanied by a parent at all times! We are in a very sensitive, natural environment & want it left exactly as you found it so it can be enjoyed by others. We've unfortunately had children cutting down small trees, ripping moss & bark off of trees & damaging playground equipment. For some reason Hipcamp doesn't show my individual sites, so I will list them here. Some say Adults only (a minimum of 19 yrs)due to sharp drop offs to the river and undercut banks that would be unsafe for children. SITES: Site 21. Adult only site (19+) 17'W x 63'L with a wider portion at the end and some to one side. (measurements of that to follow) Private, with gorgeous wide open view of the river, Pairs well with site 45 and 21. Site L2. Adults only (19+) Beautiful river view! Connects with L1 on the right. 39'D x 20'W. Site L4. Adults only (19+) Private site with full river view. 30’L x 35’W Best for under 25' due to a narrow entrance. Site L6. Some river view through the trees. Semi-circle, 28’D x 42’W Fairly private, but visible to L6. This site is suitable for smaller units (under 20'). Site C2. Forager Hill Farm on Hayward Lake

Our 5 acre forested farm backs onto Hayward Lake and has the Stave River at the front of the property. Our farm has ducks, chickens, rabbits, and a collection of cats. There are wild berry bushes throughout the property and the surrounding forest. The Stave River in the front of the property offers a more sunny spot for swimming and fishing. The Hayward Reservoir Trail circumnavigates the whole lake and the trail entrance is a 5 minute walk from the cabin. The cabin site includes a picnic table and outhouse. We provide fresh spring water and campfire wood can be supplied ($10 a bundle). The cabin is insulated and can be heated with the wood stove so it is suitable for use all year.

The best camping near Sasquatch Provincial Park guide

Overview

About

This wilderness park is named for Sa:sq’ets, a supernatural caretaker who watches over the lands and who later got the name Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, in western mythology. Set in a narrow valley near the popular resort community of Harrison Hot Springs, Sasquatch Provincial Park includes four small lakes, all great for trout fishing and canoeing, as well as lots of winding creeks and marshlands. Wildlife includes beaver, deer, bears, woodpeckers, and red-breasted sapsuckers. The 177-site park has three campgrounds on two lakes with basic amenities including pit toilets and running water. The park is located in the traditional territory of the Chehalis, Yale, and Stó:Lo Nations.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for families: Lakeside Campground on Deer Lake for the dock, playground, beach, and interpretive trail
  • Best for bird watchers: Bench Campground for the nearby trail for bird watching
  • Best for wildlife viewing: Hicks Lake for the canoe and kayak on rentals

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Reservations are recommended from mid-May to September and must be booked through the Discover Camping Reservation Service.
  2. If you’re visiting weekends or holidays (Canada Day, BC Day, and Labour Day) secure a spot as far in advance of your trip as possible.
  3. You may be able to score one of the limited numbers of first-come, first-served spots, especially mid-week, if you show up right after check-out time at 11am.
  4. There is one group site on Hicks Lake that can be reserved in advance.

When to go

Sasquatch Provincial Park is open for camping year-round. If you’re looking for sun you’ll want to visit in July or August. This is also the busy season, as summer vacation starts at the end of June. Those seeking a quieter experience will be better off on weekdays when schools are in session, during May, June, and September. The lakes are warmest for swimming in August.

Know before you go

  • Mosquitos and swimmer’s itch can both be irritations at this park.
  • Boil water advisories are occasionally in effect, so check the quality of water in advance and bring extra fuel or enough of your own water.
  • Canoe and kayak rentals are available at Hicks Lake—the park has a launch and dock.
  • Sasquatch Park is 7 kilometres from the nearby town of Harrison Hot Springs, which is worth a visit for its namesake hot springs, small Sasquatch museum, and restaurants.
