We bought this property in 2008 as raw land with an old off-grid 1950's cabin on it. While the log structure was sound, the cabin needed some major renovations to be liveable. We undertook renovations, lived in it for 6 months and then moved into a yurt on a more accessible section of our property. This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools. Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. The Vallican Whole Community Centre also has events nearby.

Weekend Trip to Bear Spring Glamping

We had an incredible weekend glamping at Bear Spring! It's a really beautiful and peaceful spot with the sweetest guard dog, Bella. There's plenty to keep you entertained with a big communal space, darts, yard games (we particularly enjoyed the corn hole) and a kitchen stocked up with all utensils you need. The tents are roomy and comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. Our host Solita was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. She also let us pick fresh raspberries and peas from the garden! Would highly recommend and are already planning our next trip to Bear Spring!

Tom’s property is laid out well, the sites are nicely spaced apart. It was overall very peaceful, we would stay again! Lots of info available for hiking in the shared space, if we were staying longer we definitely would’ve checked one of them out.

Weekend Trip to Big Sky Camping

We loved our stay here! We were the only ones there so it felt extra magical. The river is great to swim in and my dog had a blast. It was nice waking up to the sounds of the cows. The only thing to note is that the sites are fully exposed so there is no shade. It was okay for us since we only stayed one night and arrived in the evening. If you are planning to stay during the day however, it will get hot so maybe bring something to create shade on your site or spend the day cooling off in the river. I would 100% come again!

Beautiful, quiet and peaceful location. After days of Adventure riding in the back-country of British Columbia, we needed a place to be refreshed and restored and that is what we found at Valhalla Pines. Showers, a cabin (with an amazing bed), and fully equipped kitchen with excellent WiFi to catch up on messages. Our host Lindy, was kind and accommodating. If you are look for rest and retreat this is your place.

Really beautiful and peaceful spot. My kids had a nice time exploring the river bank, found a couple frogs, and we liked watching the birds. It is quite open, so on a very hot day you might struggle to find shade, but it was lovely while we were there. Communication was quick and smooth with the host. Highly recommended!

Valhalla Pines Campground was a bit of a mystery as I approached my three nights of camping there. It looked good online, but the real experience of being there was fabulous. Quiet, remote, peaceful, with all the comforts of home like the Community building where you can join friends for a meal, happily cleanse with a hot shower, and even a dish washing area that is so convenient. The area is packed with wildlife - I saw a herd of elk cross the highway, saw turkey families by the dozens, observed Osprey's fish the river, and even glimpsed a big ol' black bear rambling across the road into Nelson. And the lovely town of Nelson is only 30 minutes away. I heartily recommend visitors try out Valhalla Pines Campground. Host Tom has built a very warm, inviting oasis that is good for the soul. And you will definitely be as entranced as I was with Sophia, the big, gentle-souled Black Lab/Malamute queen of the campground. Enjoy.

Babs place was so peaceful and magical. She was a great host, there when we needed her but also gave us our privacy. The beach was beautiful and it was nice to be able to use the kayaks and paddleboards. The view of the water was amazing especially with a fire going. Thanks for hosting us!

Absolutely awesome place to stay, very private and in a beautiful forest right by the Salmo River. Neat and clean toilet and campsite. A little bumpy to get in to the site but we had no trouble in a large Canadream transit van. Well worth it.
