Outside the quiet hills of Mountain Grove is nestled a small, private lake and 576 acres of untouched forest on the Canadian Shield. Swim in Little Beaver Lake while a sunset reflects off the water, hike along our 17 km of trails weaving though the forest or relax by the campfire and listen to the wind whistling through the trees. Marvel at the night sky full of stars while listening to the music of frogs, crickets and whip-poor-whills. Wake to a symphony of bird song. This site is especially appealing for campers who love hiking in the outdoors, but appreciate indoor plumbing and some modern amenities. We are: 1 hour from Kingston 2 hours from Ottawa 3 hours from Toronto 3.5 hours from Montreal 10 minutes off Highway 7 8 kms off the Trans Canada Trail Other things to note: Tent Site - 8’ x 12’ wooden tent platform with adjustable deck anchors - campfire pit (firewood available for purchase: $15 per fire includes unlimited firewood, kindling and starter blocks; payment by e-transfer or cash) - propane BBQ with tools - picnic table with stools (covered by bug screen during bug season) - work table with cutting board, dishwashing tub, drying rack and eco-friendly detergent - 40 litres of potable water - dedicated parking spot 50 metres from tent site; wagon available for moving equipment - tent site suitable for winter camping Washroom - indoor toilet and shower (3 minute walk from tent site) Trails - 7 distinct wilderness trails for a total of 17 kilometres - well marked with colour coding - for more information about the trails: sumaccentre.ca/trails Waterfront (Note: outside watercraft and equipment (canoes, kayaks, paddles) are prohibited to protect the lake from invasive species) - dock - free use of 2 canoes, a rowboat and peddle boat - small deck beside the water The property is shared with the Sumac Centre (SumacCentre.ca), a nature-based conference/retreat centre. The tent site is away from the Lodge along a secluded path. This allows us to offer indoor plumbing and hot showers, while maintaining the privacy of your camping experience. Many services and supplies are available in Sharbot Lake (30 minutes away). Our family is confident that you will enjoy staying at Wilderness Trails at Sumac. Naomi and VictorTrail View Platform Tent Site offers an 8’ x 12’ wooden tent platform with deck anchors for your tent, 40L of potable water, a picnic table and stools (covered by screened shelter during bug season), a propane BBQ with tools, a work table and a cutting board. This site is suitable for winter camping. We also offer an indoor toilet and shower a 3 minute walk from the campsite. Your pets are welcome. We work hard to be environmentally friendly and to keep the forest pristine. With over 16 kms of trails on the property, we kindly ask that you pack out what you pack in. We recommend the Cascade Trail (yellow trail markers) which features gorgeous lookouts, waterfalls, and access to Watson Lake for cliff diving. For more information on the trails and their features, see https://www.sumaccentre.ca/trails. We offer access to a canoe, paddleboat and rowboat for free. Outside watercraft (boats, canoes, paddles, etc.) are prohibited to protect the lake from invasive species such as Zebra Mussels and Eurasian Water-Milfoil. Firewood is available for purchase onsite. $15 per fire: includes unlimited firewood, kindling and starter blocks. Payment by e-transfer or cash. The property is shared with the Sumac Centre (SumacCentre.ca), a small conference centre. However, the campsite is away from the centre along a secluded walk-in path. This allows us to offer indoor plumbing and hot showers, while maintaining the privacy of your camping experience. Hungry for a bite or in need of s’mores supplies? Sharbot Lake is only 30 minutes away and there you can find a grocery store, restaurant (Belong Sharbot Lake), Cardinal Cafe, Kick and Push Brew Pub, LCBO, Beer Store, and a one-stop-shop gas station. Our family is confident that you will enjoy staying at Wilderness Trails at Sumac. Naomi and Victor
