Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods. Three ponds offer bass and perch fishing from the bank or bring your own boat. And then there is the Navasota River...

Try their fried catfish for starters! Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. Hidalgo Falls Hideaway

The 13-acre park at Hidalgo Falls is owned by the Texas Rivers Protection Association. It is located on the Brazos River about eight miles from Navasota.TRPA ownership of this property guarantees access to this popular and unique river resource. For whitewater paddlers, it offers a class II rapid with numerous surfing waves, holes, eddy lines and play spots. For flatwater paddlers, it provides a convenient and secure access point for float trips along a very historic stretch of the Brazos as well as a place to learn swiftwater techniques and rescue skills. In the four miles downstream from the rapid archaeologists have unearthed mastodon bones from the riverbank, and the remains of an early 20th century lock and dam system still loom large in the river. All of this is just upstream from Washington on the Brazos State Park, birthplace of the republic of Texas. Stephen F. Austin is said to have crossed the river often at Hidalgo Falls. It is also said that you could tell if you had a knowledgeable riverboat captain if he could get his boat upstream of the rapid and back down before the river level dropped stranding the boat upriver near Millican or Port Sullivan.The fast moving water and play features of the rapid are rarities in this part of the state. During the year volunteer fire departments in the region use the falls for training firefighters in swiftwater rescue.A 2 mile hike and bike trail are being worked on now and will soon open. Volunteers are always welcome!

We purchased the property as a forest back in 2007. We cut down a little bit of the forest to build our house. Some of the forest burned down in the great Bastrop wildfire in 2011, but it has grown back. Native Americans once lived here. Sometimes you can find arrowheads. Learn more about this land: Lost Pines camping is located on a gravel dead-end road. We are in a pine forest and have a two-acre lake on the property that is good for swimming. Bastrop and Buescher State Parks are nearby and easy to access through back roads. Blackberries can be picked for a month or so in springtime. The land is a bit hilly. Downtown Bastrop and Downtown Smithville are both a ten-minute drive away. There are 1 RV site and 1 tent site. The tent site is a hike into the forest. The other is alongside the parking area.

The Navasota River Ranch

The Navasota River Ranch is a 600 ac parcel of land bounded by more than a mile of the Navasota River on its west side and two tributary creeks on its north and southeast sides. The river bottom is wild and untamed, while the rest is rolling hills reminiscent of the prairie that once greeted settlers. Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods. Three ponds offer bass and perch fishing from the bank or bring your own boat. And then there is the Navasota River...
