Our Bunkie is fully insulated and cozy on cold winter nights. The Northumberland Forest is quite close and it offers many cross-country ski trails.
Because of the cold weather, our outdoor shower it’s not operable during the winter months. The Bunkie does not have running water, but water is provided, and the sink can still be used.
There is a large bonfire area on our farm, (a little bit away from the Bunkie) also a play area for kids including zip line, boat structure, sand box, swing, above ground pool and trampoline; gorgeous circular organic garden with seating area and a small orchard. The Stonefield Gazebos has 3 luxurious units on a beautiful 100 + acre piece of heaven. Our original Lakeside Gazebo is steps from our private lake with its own dock. The White Oaks Gazebo is in our old white oak forest and The Cedars is in our Cedar forest beside a stream and river.
Each of these 3 luxurious units are not in close proximity to each other. We designed it this way in order to give our guests the utmost privacy. Each gazebo has its own chic and private outhouse with shower area.
All gazebos have beautiful beds with comfy and ultra soft bedding. They are equip with everything you should need from plates, cutlery, BBQ utensils, tea kettle, coffee french press, wine glasses, cups etc. There is a propane BBQ with a side burner ready to cook your meals.
There is a dock where you will find the canoes, a kayak, paddles and life jackets. If you paddle out to the middle of the lake you will find a raft with 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella on it. Bring some drinks and snacks, because once there, you will not want to leave. Our curious loons will no doubt swim up close to say hello. Enjoy!!
PLEASE NOTE: This retreat does not have electricity. However, a small, silent portable power station is available in each accommodation for guests who wish to charge their phones, laptops and small electrical devices.
***This property is an animal-free zone due to SEVERE allergies. Please don't ask if you can bring your dog, cat etc, or try to sneak them in. This applies to service animals as well unfortunately. Just because different terms are used to describe the same thing, a dog is a dog etc, whether it is your pet or a service animal. Although we do sympathize with people who require service animals, my severe allergies do not know the difference and I do not want to die. Our property is exempt from domestic animals entering the grounds, we ask that you please respect this.
We also have deer and other creatures that live around the gazebos. The scent of a dog or other animal would scare them off, fundamentally changing the nature of the experience and impacting it for other guests.
This is a beautiful opportunity to reconnect with nature and yourselves, disconnect from the grid and stresses of everyday life. It's a pretty special place and a one of a kind experience.
Historical Significance of the property
When we first saw the property we were awestruck by its beauty and allure. We were captured by the natural springs, river and stream. It wasn't until after the deal closed that we found out that we also had a lake. What an incredible surprise and gift. It also wasn't until much later that we learned about the historical significance of this special place.
It turns out that our property is part of the Percy Portage, which was an important route used for centuries by the Hurons, Iroquois and Mississaugas. It also formed the basis of the first road in the region in the early 19th century for settlers an those heading north. Samuel de Champlain used this portage in September 1615 when he travelled south with his Huron and Algonquin allies on their way to upstate New York. In the 1970's, a group of students from Trent University retraced and marked the route by adding orange metal markers to some of the trees along the way. Some of them are still present today.

We are a small hobby farm set within a mature forest setting. There are two, newly built tiny home bunkies that are situated in private areas of our property, yet close enough to our main house for security, Each bunkie has a modern outhouse with composting toilets and non potable water for washing
Guests will have the opportunity to commune with nature as we have a multitude of bird species and there is always good possibilities of wildlife viewing, as guests stroll down the nature trails. There are plenty of very cool areas along the trail where guests are able to participate in forest bathing/meditation or can just relax and listen to the wind rustling through the leaves of the trees.
We have a couple of very gentle horses on our farm, that if anyone wishes, can schedule a time meet them and do some therapy grooming. There is also a small flock of egg laying hens that are quite social.
We have a small on site store, which has some beautiful wood crafts that are created in our woodworking shop. Live-edge wood tables/charcuterie boards and other beautiful pieces as well as a large display of gorgeous healing crystals and metaphysical items are available for purchase if that's your interest.
We are less than a 10 minute drive to Bobcaygeon, where you can find the world famous Kawartha Dairy, scrumptious restaurants, specialty clothing boutiques, grocery stores and pharmacies. Sturgeon Lake is the predominate lake with fabulous fishing/boating/ swimming. A 20 minute drive will get you to Fenelon Falls, Buckhorn or Kinmount where you will find the famous Kinmount Movie Theater that have the latest movies available. The Canadian Rail Trail is also nearby for anyone that wants to do some biking/hiking.

The bunkie features a queen mattress, 4 windows and if desired, the mattress can be rolled up to accommodate a centre table for card playing. There is no hydro, indoor water or heat in the bunkie. If you need to charge your cell phone, consider having a portable solar phone charger or a portable power bank as there is NO hydro on the property.

The grounds are an excellent location for walking, photography, writing, drawing, painting, forest bathing, meditation or just to chillax.
For those looking for local attractions: Westben Theatre, Launch your fishing boat or kayak at Trent River Monument (9 km from site), Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge, Seymour Conservation Area (with a quarry for swimming), Dooher's Bakery, Empire Cheese, Church-Key Brewing, Fogorig Brewing and several food and restaurant establishments are available in Campbellford area. If you forgot to pack something, Giant Tiger, Dollarama, Stedman's, Sharpe's or No Frills may offer what you need. Only 13 km to Campbellford or 12 km to Havelock.

With many hiking trails in the area including Eldred King Woodlands, Vivian forest Trails, Durham Regional Forest and almost directly across the road and slightly south of our property new York Region Forest walking/hiking trails can be accessed. Nearby restaurants in Ballantrae. In the quaint little town of Mt. Albert 5 min with an LCBO in it open till 8pm daily. Ballantrae Ultramar 6 min away also has an LCBO open till 11 pm daily. Uxbridge is nearby and a large variety of restaurants and shopping
Lots to check out in the area, or simply stay put at The Shack and enjoy cooking a meal on the BBQ in the outdoor kitchen area (propane included) and relaxing by the bonfire (wood included). The Shack is equipped with some cooking items, pots + pans, BBQ and utensils, knives, cutlery, plates, coffee cups, bowls, glasses + (wine glasses) cutting board, tray, kettle and a small chest cooler to keep your food and drinks cold (you will need to bring the ice) Dish washing rack is provided, as well as large jugs of clean potable water for cooking/drinking and doing the dishes. Please bring your garbage bags! Extra cooler is also provided.
The Shack sleeps 3 people comfortably, with 2 bunks and 1 single size sofa-bed. Pillows and Bedding ARE NOT included. Plenty of room to set up additional tents for the additional per person nightly rate if more than 3 people. **2 Outhouses on premises. **Bonfire wood is provided - Large chunks - split your own - Axe is provided. You can leave any recyclables. Recycle containers are provided, but you must **Please Take Garbage Away at checkout!!!

This was our second stay at Gray Otter Cabins, and we had such an amazing time again! We absolutely love this place. The dogs had the BEST time swimming and could have stayed in the water forever! We love the town, the beautiful surroundings, and especially the complete seclusion and privacy. It’s the perfect place to get away from everything, relax, and enjoy some quality time together.
We already can’t wait to come back for our third stay when we’re able to! 🥰 We seriously can’t recommend Gray Otter Cabins enough!

The place was beautiful, it was quiet and peaceful. The animals were cute and breathtaking to experience especially as an amazing getaway from the busy city life. I 100% recommend and we were provided with every utensil in the house.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay. The tiny home was perfect for our family of 3. Our daughter is 8 and they had a little pull out chair for her that turned into a bed. Lovely hosts, clean, comfortable and very functional space. Extremely private and quiet! We went August long weekend and the mosquitoes were out but not too bad. We would highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Kawartha Lakes area.

Weekend Trip to The Stonefield Estate Gazebos
Sonia was an EXCELLENT host and has an amazingly unique gazebo property (I was in White Oaks). We had a super fun time although our only full day was 12 hrs plus of rain! The place was clean and bathroom was both rustic and deluxe. The remote battery lights didn’t work which was a bit disappointing but Sonia had given us a lantern to use. We were surprised to arrive, to park our car and wagon in 300 steps or so - I didn’t read that on website and could be problem with mobility for some guests. This added a bit of work but was part of the adventure. The screened in area was superb and few bugs therefore and we played games till late at night (by my gas lantern)!

Weekend Trip to Villa Vida Loca
We stayed one night at the loft and had an amazing experience. Brian met us as we drove in and gave us a little tour of the property and where everything was. The cabin itself was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed. The upgraded outhouse had a real camping toilet and a little sink to was your hands, a little luxury. We spent most of our time enjoying the outdoors by fire, eating smores and reading our books. Would definitely come back again!

We had a wonderful stay at Yvonne's. The cabin was clean, spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need. The property is secluded and surrounded by a conservation area with trails right on the property and provincial parks a short drive away. This was the perfect peaceful nature getaway. We had an amazing few days away to unplug and be one with nature. The property is full of lush green and through the trees is water. There are rapids to the right of you with trails moving through the forest. No cell service which is exactly what we were looking for. The cabin was in the perfect spot. Against the trees and the windows had the best breeze! The hosts are very attentive and aware of what is needed for a few days away. If you are looking to unwind, swim, enjoy Mother Nature this is the place to do it in. We have started a new tradition and will be back again. We were also happy that our Golden had free roam and she was not impressed when we left!

2 nights at Forest Time Retreat
We had an amazing 2 night experience . Forest Time Retreat is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The hosts are amazing people. They have thought of everything that you could possibly need for your stay at the bunkie. A fully equipped outdoor kitchen with BBQs, wood burning stove, fire pit, wood shed full of wood, sink with jugs of non-potable water for washing, pots, pans, dishes, cutlery +++, an outdoor shower, clean "outhouse ", exterior solar lights and more. All in a quiet wooded area. Other sites are well spaced out and well set up. We are already planning to return.
