Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. We’ve hosted weddings, and family reunions. We hope you appreciate how special this place is. Come see for yourself!

This is a place to get away from a busy life.
With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling.
Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking.
Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available.
We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that
generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs!
Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking!
Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path.
We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon.
Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven.
Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :)
Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

We are excited to share our Alberta landscape with its beautiful sky, empty fields, and close up nature details.
Hillwinds House is a cozy Nordic-inspired cabin located on the edge of the Meeting Creek valley. The cabin is nestled in the trees on a 5 acre piece of land.
The cabin is completely off-grid with a wood burning stove inside to keep it warm. The kitchenette has everything you need to prepare meals: a gas stovetop, sink with gravity water faucet, and a YETI cooler stocked with ice packs to keep your food cool.
To access the king sized bed in the loft, a sturdy ladder must be climbed (see photo). Loft and ladder are “use at your own risk.”
A wood burning sauna is located just steps from the main house. Walk out on the wrap-around deck and light the fire in the sauna to get your sweat on. During the winter months, a snow bath is recommended for refreshment. (it feels so good!) We also have a handheld shower to rinse off with after the sauna. A wood-burning hot tub bathing area is available for bookings from May to October, and no hot tub is available in the winter months when it is too cold to change the water for each guest.
There is a dry flush toilet inside the cabin (in its own bathroom) so there’s no need to freeze your butt off in an outhouse. Sanitary wipes and hands sanitizer are conveniently located in the bathroom with the wash basin in the nearby kitchen.
As a guest at Hillwinds House, you will have full access to the entire 5 acre property.
Enjoy the spacious deck with valley views, sit in the sauna at dusk and watch the wildlife walk by. (deer, white rabbits, moose, and coyotes)
Put on your snow boots or skis and enjoy the trail that winds down the side of the hill towards the Meeting Creek townsite.
When you book a stay at the cabin, we’ll send you a welcome booklet with a list of our favourite places to go and things to do locally. We’ll be a few miles away on our farm if you need anything during your stay at Hillwinds House.

My boyfriend and myself tented at RedRock Farm yard for 2 nights. Keith and his wife Kathy were wonderful hosts. The farm fresh eggs in the morning was a great touch. We enjoyed visiting with their goats, sheep, chickens and the sweetest dog Davy. I highly recommend spending a couple nights at their adorable little farm yard. We will definitely be going back.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Springs Retreat & Guesthouse
Barb, the Host, made us feel so very welcome. We felt a real connection to her, even though we did not interact overly much.
Fox, one of her dogs, will make you feel even more welcome. So well behaved and mildly loving.
Our nights were 0 to -2 Celsius, yet the blankets and tent were wildly cozy and secure. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
A few things to know. Make sure you bring everything you need to get by. We were the first visitors of the year, so I suspect there may be some great to have amenities in later weeks. Ensure you bring a stove, all food you need, and so on.
Barb provides firewood and it’s incredibly dry and burns wonderfully. So that all good. Be forewarned that there is no shower (but she welcomed us to shower in her home) or running water (again, she had that on hand I’d needed), and it can get damned cold (cannot overstate how warm and comfy the beds were and slept like a baby in the cold) but a blessing in the warmth of the bedding.
Very reasonable pricing. I encourage you to give it a go. We definitely will visit Barb again, even if to just say hi because she is that kinda person.

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat
May long weekend is always a big unknown with weather. That's why my friends and I always book a cabin of some kind for that weekend. We had chilly winds, but I was nice and snug in The Happy Hut. another friend stayed in the renovated bus, and one brought her camper. The accommodations were great. The compostable toilet for my use was the best dry toilet ever! it brought a new meaning to the throne Room. It was amazing! hahaha. There were so many eccentric and quirky features on the property. It was great! Loved my view of the valley for my morning coffee. The shower in the old silo was fabulous. Pat (Geri was away) was an amazing host. Friendly, accommodating and helpful. He was often accompanied by his friendly four-legged companion Piper. It was a perfect property for a getaway from the city. Loved hearing nothing but songbirds singing and the occasional coyote off in the distance. We will be back. Want to try the treehouse and The Rosebud Cafe. Highly recommend Collinswood Retreat.

I only needed a place to park and sleep, and this worked out perfectly. Happy to have a toilet there, and it looks like a good place for a bbq/fire pit with a group. There was a bit of miscommunication about arrival, but this was my first time hipcamping so I didn’t really know much anyway. Laura was lovely in sorting it out. Seeing the animals was a bonus, and I’ll definitely stay again if I’m in the area!

Adrian’s land was a little pocket of peace. We found it very easily and Adrian came out to greet us when we arrived. Overall we felt very welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Definitely recommend 😊

We had such a unique and cozy experience staying in the converted bus “Poppy” 🌿✨
It’s located on a small farm surrounded by a beautiful little grove, which makes it feel very peaceful and private. The bus itself is super charming — you can really feel how much love and creativity was put into turning it into a comfortable camping space.
Geri & Pat are incredibly kind and welcoming hosts 💛 They even showed us around their other campsites — and honestly, every single one looked amazing and thoughtfully designed.
One of the highlights was definitely the outdoor bathtub with a stunning view — such a special experience you don’t get often. There are also plenty of nice walking areas around, so you can explore and enjoy nature if you don’t feel like just staying in one spot.
Overall, this place has such a warm and magical vibe. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something different, cozy, and close to nature 🌲✨

We had a very peaceful and relaxing weekend. Loved having a sauna every day and all the little extra comforts of the cabin that are provided. A lot of personal touches that add to the stay - coffee, tea, water ready to go, portable shower, plenty of firewood. All these things helped us just be able to relax and unwind.

4 nights at Rough Diamond Ranch Alberta
Laura was an outstanding host. Not only did she invite us for Christmas dinner, but she showed my friend the true meaning of a Canadian Christmas. Her ranch is beautiful, with great walking trails through the trees. I’m excited to camp here come summer and spring time, what a beautiful place.

Beautiful spot! Very close to the water, beautiful trails, and very peaceful. Drank my tea and watched birds and deer hang around me. Camped here in the fall, will for sure be back in the summer.

Lovely place in an amazing location! The walking trails straight from the campsite are beautiful. The boat launch nearby is a nice place to sit and reflect as well. Great communication from the host.
