Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. At Hillwinds House, it’s all about taking a moment to disconnect from your busy life and reconnect with nature. Build a fire, read a book, brew some coffee, sweat in the sauna, prepare a nourishing meal, and watch the sun set over the valley in the west. We are excited to share our Alberta landscape with its beautiful sky, empty fields, and close up nature details. Hillwinds House is a cozy Nordic-inspired cabin located on the edge of the Meeting Creek valley. The cabin is nestled in the trees on a 5 acre piece of land. The cabin is completely off-grid with a wood burning stove inside to keep it warm. The kitchenette has everything you need to prepare meals: a gas stovetop, sink with gravity water faucet, and a YETI cooler stocked with ice packs to keep your food cool. To access the king sized bed in the loft, a sturdy ladder must be climbed (see photo). Loft and ladder are “use at your own risk.” A wood burning sauna is located just steps from the main house. Walk out on the wrap-around deck and light the fire in the sauna to get your sweat on. During the winter months, a snow bath is recommended for refreshment. (it feels so good!) We also have a handheld shower to rinse off with after the sauna. A wood-burning hot tub bathing area is available for bookings from May to October, and no hot tub is available in the winter months when it is too cold to change the water for each guest. There is a dry flush toilet inside the cabin (in its own bathroom) so there’s no need to freeze your butt off in an outhouse. Sanitary wipes and hands sanitizer are conveniently located in the bathroom with the wash basin in the nearby kitchen. As a guest at Hillwinds House, you will have full access to the entire 5 acre property. Enjoy the spacious deck with valley views, sit in the sauna at dusk and watch the wildlife walk by. (deer, white rabbits, moose, and coyotes) Put on your snow boots or skis and enjoy the trail that winds down the side of the hill towards the Meeting Creek townsite. When you book a stay at the cabin, we’ll send you a welcome booklet with a list of our favourite places to go and things to do locally. We’ll be a few miles away on our farm if you need anything during your stay at Hillwinds House.

The kitchenette has everything you need to prepare meals: a gas stovetop, sink with gravity water faucet, and a YETI cooler stocked with ice packs to keep your food cool. To access the king sized bed in the loft, a sturdy ladder must be climbed (see photo). Loft and ladder are “use at your own risk.” A wood burning sauna is located just steps from the main house. Walk out on the wrap-around deck and light the fire in the sauna to get your sweat on. During the winter months, a snow bath is recommended for refreshment. (it feels so good!) We also have a handheld shower to rinse off with after the sauna. A wood-burning hot tub bathing area is available for bookings from May to October, and no hot tub is available in the winter months when it is too cold to change the water for each guest. There is a dry flush toilet inside the cabin (in its own bathroom) so there’s no need to freeze your butt off in an outhouse. Sanitary wipes and hands sanitizer are conveniently located in the bathroom with the wash basin in the nearby kitchen. Beautiful spot! Very close to the water, beautiful trails, and very peaceful. Drank my tea and watched birds and deer hang around me. Camped here in the fall, will for sure be back in the summer.

Gives a vive that you are actually in a jungle inside of a tree house. There is a bus turned into a cabin, which will remind you of the movie “into the wild”. Great experience overall.

Staying in Poppy was a very pleasant experience! We arrived late, in the dark. We were struggling to find our spot (albeit, I did not look at the instructions carefully). Pat came to find us at the entrance, and helped escort us to our stay. They also provided some extra water (due to the water line being shut off because of cold temps) a heater and some heating bottles to keep us warm. The location is very beautiful, with some cool amenities available throughout the grounds. All in all, Geri & Pat are very welcoming, thoughtful and we would love to rent out the whole grounds in the future! Thanks again!

Loved poppy bus, had a great experience living in here as it is my dream to eventually do this. Enjoyed how there was so many hiking trails everywhere. We spent an hour or more looking and exploring. The whole place here is so much to take in. I especially loved interacting with the friendly horses. I plan to bring my extended family next spring.

We really enjoyed camping here for our friends 30th! The bus was really awesome and a great theme for a little weekend getaway. For the second time this year an amazing stay at the Hideaway, made even better by host Gordon who kindly left a propane fire pit for us to use during the fire ban, lots of wildlife to be seen and the vintage trucks and farm equipment are a great touch on the walking trails, and to top it off a private fishing spot with picturesque views at the rocky lockout trail, we will be back next year.

This was my second time camping here and I think it’s officially my favourite campground. :) Geri and Pat are so welcoming, plus the sites are private with beautiful surroundings. This morning I saw the horses coming through the property too which was a huge bonus! With the Bowden Sunmaze close by, not to mention that this site comes with a bundle of firewood and water, I can’t recommend this place enough. With winter coming soon I hope to plan a weekend in the treehouse or other buildings soon!

Forest Glen Yurt is our answer to the requested "remote" site at Collinswood Retreat. Tucked in the woods close to the walking trails, this site is WALK IN, so pack only the essentials! There will be a wagon to assist you on the 10 minute walk from the parking area to the yurt as needed. Onsite there is an outhouse, BBQ, fire pit & food storage locker.

The sites and amenities were exactly as shown and explained on the website. We enjoyed the solitude and quietness of the site not always found in the common campground arrangement. There are some hiking trails nearby at the Crimson Lake provincial park that we enjoyed as well as taking time to read, relax and shell peanuts, once we got back to our site.
