Quiet, majestic back to nature spot!
This is a place to get away from a busy life.
With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling.
Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking.
Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available.
We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that
generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs!
Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking!
Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path.
We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon.
Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven.
Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :)
Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. If you’re looking for adventure nearby, there’s wonderful hiking at Elk Island Park (30 minutes drive) or bird watching at Beaver Hill lake and hiking . The sites are all easily accessible by traditional cars and no special vehicles are needed. There is wifi and cell reception on the property, and we can also provide you with electricity to charge your phones or other devices during your stay, just ask!

Explorer David Thompson led his expedition through this area in the 19th century. Prairie Creek flows directly along the ranch. Depending on water levels, guests can swim, relax by the shore, or fish with a valid Alberta fishing permit. Canoeing is also possible under suitable conditions. Hiking trails begin right on the property and lead through wooded areas and open clearings.
Wildlife is naturally part of the surroundings. With a bit of luck, you may spot deer, elk, coyotes, beavers, wild geese, and occasionally even a puma in the distance. The ranch is not a resort but a genuine piece of nature—authentic and untouched.
Our sled dogs live here at Rocky Wolf Ranch. Guided sled dog experiences can be booked in both summer and winter. The parking pad is right across from the house, to the left of the driveway. Back in or drive in, there's lots of room to do either. You are welcome to enjoy a campfire, we have lots of wood available. Let us know if you need the picnic table, sometimes we have it up by the house.
Once you are settled in, take your time to walk around. You can birdwatch from your campsite, the feeders by the house are a busy bird haven.
Walk to the gate and check out the pond and the grazing horses. Ask how to be safe as you walk in the pasture. Pet them if they agree to it, or walk down the trail into the forest. There are many trails to follow down there. You are welcome to use the firepit and picnic area in the bottom. Listen for the birds, we have many different sparrows, warblers and other birds that don't stop singing. If you are lucky, you might see some deer or great horned owls.
The yard is open to the big sky. Watch storms come and go, see the stars and some nights you might see the northern lights. Bring your bug spray, the mosquitoes can be aggressive. Listen to the frogs, the coyotes and other country sounds.
We have fresh eggs every day from our chickens and fresh veggies in season from our garden.

A fantastic weekend get away, highly recommend it for a family. I went with my adult daughter we both have high stress jobs, extremely peaceful, caring hosts, great recharge we both felt we were gone for more then 3 days!
Very visible things for children to entertain themselves such as swingset, bikes and such, things to explore. I told my daughter a scavenger hunt or can you find the squirrel on the swing would entertain youngs ones ....escape the screens, beautiful sunset! Farm fresh eggs! Free firewood recommend leaving a "tip" for chopping the wood, a kind gesture to the host.

Our stay was so relaxing... perfect for somewhere quiet away from the hustle and bustle, and still close enough to Hinton Town with lots of amenities (fuel, supermarkets, clothes stores, restaurants Canadian tire). Beautiful semi rural setting with forest backdrop across the field, and mountains in the far distance, & stunning drive down to Jasper through the mountains. Lovely large camp spot next to the main house, surrounded by aspen trees. Nice pit available which is always a big bonus! Chickens and geese 10 meters from the site. Hosts were as friendly, welcoming, and accommodating as could be. Had a beer with Adrian while he showed us round his vintage buses! Would definitely stay here again.

He offered us whatever we needed to make our stay pleasant. Later in the evening he and his son had to move the ducks and goose to the barn. They checked with us to make sure we were ok with that. Afterwards we had a great visit with both of them. The place was very relaxing. Definitely a great host and a great place to stay.

Great little camping spot at Adrian’s place. It’s our second time camping there and gives us easy access to Jasper and the Hinton bike park. Super friendly host. Great eggs that he sells.
