The best camping in Vermilion Provincial Park, AB

Explore the expansive Vermilion River Valley from a comfortable basecamp on Vermillion Park Lake. Recreation abounds with summer fishing, canoeing, hiking trails and wide open space to explore. When the snow arrives, visitors can enjoy ski trails, snowshoeing and ice fishing. Wildlife enthusiasts will find a number of migratory and resident birds through the seasons. The crisp, clean air and scenic surroundings make for an attractive place to camp throughout the year. Convenient access to the town of Vermilion ensures you are always close to services and supplies when visiting the park.

1. The Vermilion Provincial Park has a large campground with a wide variety of sites. Know what you want/need in advance. They have wooded sites and open sites with some being unserviced and others having limited to full hookup options. 
2. Sites are reservable during specific times of year. April 29 to October 1 is the general season for reservations. The reservations are often available up to 10-weeks out. 
3. Reservations are not available for winter camping sites. There are only three developed winter sites and they are unserviced. If you plan a winter trip, know the sites are limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. 
4. The geographical region has a large landscape with big farms and small towns. Private campsites offer an excellent option but know that drive times between sites and parks are often associated with reasonable or long drives.

As a year-round park, there really isn’t a bad time to visit. The prime season begins April 29 and extends to October 1 for overnight camping. The full campground is open during this time with access to power, water, sewer and showers. The trails are open for hiking and ice is typically free from the reservoir, ponds and river. Winter is still attractive for the prepared campers however. Without services, you should have sufficient winter camping equipment and a heat source. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are excellent during the winter months.

• Sections of hiking trails are paved, offering wheelchair access. Other sections are unpaved and more difficult to navigate. Campsite C-43 is the single wheelchair-accessible campsite.
• Showers are available for a small fee. RVs with contained showers and hookups can also find sites with water. Firewood is available for purchase onsite as well. 
• Sites vary but most have fire pits, shelter and ample space for RV’s or tents. 
• Additional services include flush toilets, tap water, horseshoe pits and a playground. Fish cleaning stations are located near the trout pond and a mini golf course is open during the summer.
