45km from Greater Preston National Park · 4 sites · RVs
Blackwood Ridge Nature Park is situated on the Roebank property and as party of the first settlement in this area, both Roebank and the neighbouring Peninsula House have historical significance in Bridgetown. The Roebank Cottage was built in 1890 by the grand-daughter of John Septimus Roe who was a famous civil engineer contributing to the original town planning of Perth City and Roebourne. In the early days, Roebank was used for livestock grazing and had the largest shearing shed this side of Bridgetown used by the neighbouring farmers. Over the years the property has been used as a pear orchard, goat farm and other small farming activities. Today the property operates as a family hobby farm with short-stay accommodation along the river residences and nature park sites on the high points offering scenic views of the valley.

The birdlife here is amazing, with red tailed cockatoos and honeyeaters amongst others frequently visiting. Please take care whilst exploring around this area, there are some deep rabbit warrens around the hay shed, which can be hidden in the grass in winter. Valley Vista Valley Vista is a private and secluded haven, on an elevated spot backed onto state forest looking down over the valley, with arguably the best views of the farm. One of our three dams is hidden in amongst the tea tree bushes nearby. You can see the house from this campsite, but it is far enough away that privacy is not an issue. Please be aware, all of our dams are seasonal and will be very low in the summer months. We also recommend that you do not swim in them. 49km from Greater Preston National Park · 12 sites · Tents, RVs
Our 120 acres of hobby farm has about 50 acres cleared with the remaining still natural scrub and bush land. Our homestead and sheds are totally off grid being solar with battery and generator backup and rain water tanks. We run a small flock of sheep with the obligatory goat thrown in for good measure and crop the cleared land to feed the stock through summer. We have free range Chickens, Geese and Guinea Fowl. A dam is situated in the bottom bush corner and another one has recently been built in one of the cropping paddocks. Depending on fire restrictions, quads and bikes can be ridden providing it’s with respect for stock, land and other campers and at your own risk. Dogs are welcome (and off leash) providing they are sociable, kept under control, don’t worry the stock and fowls and aren’t a nuisance to others. Current vaccinations and worming is required to help protect local farming, stock and working dogs. Introductions to our farm Kelpies is a responsible start as our kelpies have free range over our whole property. For those pooches that suddenly decide they can't contain their exuberance around stock we can supply long swivel chains or temporary use of our 20sqm dog run. The Blackwood River is a 15 minute drive where you can swim, canoe and waterski. Our property has a huge variety of birds, wildflowers and we even have Phascogales if you’re lucky enough to see one. Please note the nearest shops are 50km away but if you do forget something we will more than likely be able to help out (because my husband reckons I shop for Armageddon !) The quiet, the stars, the sunrises and sunsets will leave you wanting to return to our piece of paradise

19. Murray Valley Camping

96%
(519)
62km from Greater Preston National Park · 12 sites · Tents, RVs
Murray Valley Camping features campsites that are completely open in nature. Each site is close to the Murray River and is surrounded by nature, so you truly feel far away from the rest of the world. The property is close to the famous Bibbulmun track, with Harvey and Boddington equal distances away, so options to explore the region easily. Campers can go for walks along the river, relax, and enjoy the sounds of nature. Throw your kayak in for a paddle. Throw a line in and try your luck at fishing. As the day slips away, catch a beautiful sunset, as you toast marshmallows by the campfire (outside of fire restriction times). There are no toilets or amenities, so all campers need to be fully self-contained in that respect, with their own camp toilet and water, and we ask you to take all waste when you go. There’s also little to no cell reception at the sites. There is background noise from the nearby conveyer belt that goes on and off randomly. Some people take it as soothing white noise while others think it’s overbearing. Pet-friendly, so you're welcome to bring your four-legged friend along. Unplug from everyday life, escape and reconnect with friends and family in nature.

Overview

About

Embark on an adventure through the serene expanse of Preston National Park, where the ancient Jarrah forest beckons with its majestic beauty. Wander along the Bibbulmun Track, immersing yourself in the vibrant wildflowers that flourish in Djilba and Kambarang. With no camping facilities, the park offers a pure, undisturbed natural experience for day-trippers and bushwalkers alike.

When to go

The best time to visit Preston National Park is during the wildflower season in Djilba and Kambarang, when the landscape transforms into a kaleidoscope of colour. Avoid the peak of summer, as the heat can be intense and the risk of bushfires is higher. Early autumn and late spring offer pleasant temperatures for exploring.

Know before you go

  • Ensure you have a personal location beacon (PLB) for safety, as the park is remote and rescue may be required.
  • Be aware that no dogs or other pets are allowed within the park to protect the native wildlife.
  • Entry to Preston National Park is free, making it an accessible adventure for all.
  • There are no visitor facilities, so come prepared with water, food, and first-aid supplies.
  • Respect the traditional owners, the Kaniyang and Wiilman people, by acknowledging their connection to the land.
