We also have a nice running creek that you can take a cooling down soak in or just enjoy watching our many wild life that are present throughout the creek, fish , eels and turtles. It's truly a very private and relaxing spot to chill out and enjoy camping for a few days or whatever suits your needs while passing the area. Plenty of fantastic swimming holes nearby including Josephine falls and Babinda boulders very popular spots for tourist and the locals. Site 1 right down on the creek large grass flat space big enough for two families to set up camp. The creek runs around the outside so there are a number of viewing points to see the wildlife mentioned above. A set of solar lights hang over the firepit area allowing for more light while cooking on our wonderful swinging hotplate BBQ. Site 2 Our newer spot work in progress not so ideal for camper trailers. your situated under our tree line away from the main creek but still with your own small dirt track down to the creek. A smaller paver firepit, plenty fine for sitting around an open fire while watching the stars at night. So please check by internal message before confirming your booking that way we can confirm a spot while discussing your needs to ensure you have a clear view of your camping area. Onsite we have our shared outhouse porta toilet which is positioned in the middle of both camping areas for everyone's convenience. Juliet and Grant have been custodians since 2003, in that time we've built a house, raised a family and now that Alex and Hayley are both at University, life has become a little quieter, (not so sure if we like the quiet though!) Now we've only just started with Hipcamp, we do have a lot to discover, happy to listen and learn. We do offer plenty of space and you will not be crowded out as we keep numbers very limited. No facilities, no toilets, showers, electricity, rubbish bins etc. We do ask that you respect this as you must be fully self contained. We do not consider, a bucket with a lid, to be self contained ok! Right now though in our top dam, we have a flock of White Egrets roosting at night, spectacular when they depart & return each day, however due to the number of these birds, hundreds if not more! they have fouled the water in the dam & it's a bit on the nose.

Twitcher's Hill camping area is situated on a quiet road, away from noise. Guests can pitch a tent or park their accommodation and enjoy the morning chorus of birds while breakfasting with a stunning mountain view. Telsta has coverage in this area and the closest convenience store is 14km (Nine Mile Store) or Woolworths shopping centre, Mossman 25km. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash whilst on the property as we have chooks and cattle. Our property is suitable for a quiet, relaxing, nature lovers get away, 450m above sea level at the northern most end of the Atherton Tableland, offering an ideal relaxing climate.

Visitors need to go through Mareeba A beautiful 160 acre paddock that you can enjoy. Cleared slashed areas beside the river. Enjoy a river swim to cool you down during summer and go for a cold dip during winter. River is also good for fishing during the right season. Access to river is 100 metres on graded walking track. Unless you have a ‘booster ’there is very limited mobile coverage or internet. {enjoy the peace and solitude} Access to the property is fourteen kilometres gravel, coming off the highway. Sites are private separated from each other. Site is 300 metres from road and provides privacy. Tents and small caravans are ideal. Not suitable for highway caravans or very large vans as the access will be too rough. There are walking areas at rear of property. Be aware tropical North Queensland has paralysis ticks and we have snakes at times and visiting pigs. Water can be supplied upon request. Power generators are permitted . There may be minimal mobile service with Telstra. Campfire will only be permitted within fire pit. All campers will need to be self contained and leave no trace behind. Checkout is generally when you feel like it. Dog friendly. Site may be closed in the wet season from December to April, once monsoonal events occur

Our shallow freshwater creeks are refreshing to explore and, for deep water swimming and kayaking, it's only a five minute drive to Babinda Crossing. Hikers can explore our headlands or venture further to dedicated hiking trails including scaling the 922 metre high Walsh's Pyramid that's only a ten minute drive away. Birdwatchers are spoiled for choice day and night, beautiful insects are in abundance, small native marsupials and reptiles are regularly seen, and the waterways are home to a variety of tropical fish as well as the occasional crocodile in the main river. We’re a great base location for exploring the area as we’re only 15 minutes to the town of Gordonvale and less than an hour to Cairns International Airport, the Great Barrier Reef and the Atherton Tablelands. Boaties can take the ten minute drive to Deeral Boat Ramp to launch their vessel and head down the Mulgrave River to Russel Heads and out to the Great Barrier Reef and islands.

Our 20-acre exotic fruit farm backs onto World heritage rainforest and provides a relaxing base for which to explore the wet tropics south of Cairns. We have a beautiful freshwater swimming hole down the road, and also the Mulgrave River is very close if you want to do some fishing.The camping area is large, grassy and reasonably level, with space closer to the tree line, and space more out in the open. There is a firepit provided, and plenty of firewood around the place for you to help yourself to. We also welcome four-legged family members! We have had recent sightings of cassowary on our property so keep an eye out, you might just see one!We prefer self-contained campers, who have their own amenities, but we do have a toilet and shower up at the main house (about 50 metres away) you are welcome to use if needed. This is an unused bathroom downstairs so you will still have privacy. Access into the property is not suitable for large motorhomes. Entry will be too small for vehicles approx 8.5 metres long and 3.5 metres high.We grow exotic fruit on the property including limes, pomelos, mangosteens and more. When it's in season, you're welcome to sample some! Gordonvale is the nearest town, with a quiet historic charm, just 15 minutes drive away, while Cairns is around 25 minutes.

This 6km trail climbs from sea level to almost 400m within just a couple of kilometres, allowing riders to experience one of the biggest downhill thrills in the region. You might also like to explore further and do a day trip up to the Daintree. Your friendly host is always happy to share local knowledge so you can get the best out of your trip. Campers will need to be self sufficient with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. Pets are welcome but must be kept under your control at all times. Campfires allowed, must been in a fire pit or equivalent.

Our 20-acre exotic fruit farm backs onto World heritage rainforest and provides a relaxing base for which to explore the wet tropics south of Cairns. We have a beautiful freshwater swimming hole down the road, and also the Mulgrave River is very close if you want to do some fishing.The camping area is large, grassy and reasonably level, with space closer to the tree line, and space more out in the open. There is a firepit provided, and plenty of firewood around the place for you to help yourself to. We also welcome four-legged family members! We have had recent sightings of cassowary on our property so keep an eye out, you might just see one!We prefer self-contained campers, who have their own amenities, but we do have a toilet and shower up at the main house (about 50 metres away) you are welcome to use if needed. This is an unused bathroom downstairs so you will still have privacy. Access into the property is not suitable for large motorhomes. Entry will be too small for vehicles approx 8.5 metres long and 3.5 metres high.We grow exotic fruit on the property including limes, pomelos, mangosteens and more. When it's in season, you're welcome to sample some! Gordonvale is the nearest town, with a quiet historic charm, just 15 minutes drive away, while Cairns is around 25 minutes.

Beautiful tree lined avenue welcomes you to Barrine Farm Stay, which is one of only a handful of properties on the road. I stayed as the only guest for most of my stay in a tent with my giant dog who was made to feel very welcome by my host's children! Fresh eggs that will have you turning down store bought. Super friendly cows - Vermont is my dog's favourite. Unbelievably stunning sunsets.. every day..and if you're lucky, Barking Owls screaming or wook-wooking at dusk. Shower and flushing toilets, electricity if required. Was a very peaceful stay, I didn't leave except to walk the dog, thoroughly recpmmend it.

The proprietor, Dean, was the best! He was welcoming and helpful to us as newer campervan users. Even though we arrived after dark, we were able to get set up and ready to go the next day to our early planned activity. The retreat is neat and clean, with landscaping that helps campers feel separate from each other. It is fairly convenient for activities in Port Douglas or Cairns. We’d gladly come back.

Mulgrave River Camp

we are a couple who love to feel secluded. And that we did. Unfortunately no catch for us however that did not takeaway from the fun we had trying. We stayed at the site closest to the house, it's the popular site from the photos. However if you are after the fishing and crabbing definitely ask for the site in the far corner although the opening isn't as big to the water, this will be my pick next time for the fishing and crabbing. Insaying this as there was no other camper we were free to roam anywhere we wanted. The 3 sites are far spread out and out of site from each other. With large soft grassy camps. Easy enough for any size vehicle to manover. Highly recommend bringing your own hard wood. The hospitality was amazing and whilst friendly and happy to have a beer with us. They definitely respected our privacy. 100% Aussie geniuan family. We will be back.

What a gem of a place. Such a relaxing place to base yourselves or just chill. Lots of space with water and power hook up. A quick walk to the local beach. A good walk to a lovely swimming hole or waterfall. A pretty creek to look at with turtles and a most adorable crocodile. Dean is very friendly and accommodating, and staff,/others on the property are great. My only complaint is that after two nights we had to move on having bookings elsewhere. One of my favourite places after being on the road for two months. I hope this place doesn't change to much.

Nice camp-site right on the creek. Shady trees and big open grassy area. It was great that a toilet was provided. Also gave us some food to feed the fish and turtles. Nice firepit area. Firewood a little expensive for what you got but otherwise the stay was perfect. Would stay again.

The best time to visit Fitzroy Island National Park is during the dry season from May to October, when the weather is cooler and rainfall is scarce. The wet season, from December to April, brings heavy rains and high humidity, which can impact ferry services and outdoor activities.

Know before you go

Always stay on designated tracks to protect the environment and ensure your safety.
Be prepared for the presence of stinging jellyfish in the water, especially during the warmer months.
Estuarine crocodiles can be found in waters around the island; always be croc wise.
No domestic animals are allowed on the island to protect its delicate ecosystems.
Remember to bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated.
