Surrounded by 40,000 acres of world heritage rainforest, 15 minutes outside the village of Kuranda, you will camp next to the mighty Barron River. This place is totally private and you have access to a sandy beach where swimming is safe and completely secluded. It's a great place for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. There is a 360 degree view from the property, with nothing made by man in the way. When we purchased this property 37 years ago and built our unique home, it was denuded cattle land, and now we are surrounded by the most beautiful rainforest. We planted approximately 8000 trees.! We have 4 sites available all close to the river, and can provide water as well as access to our toilet. We are agile wallaby carers, with the rescued joeys being released back into the forest from here. After a day of kayaking or hiking or exploring the area we also offer a sunset massage (as available ) by a local masseuse who lives on the property. This campsite has access to drinking water and a toilet (no shower). There is access to rubbish facilities.

Barron River Getaway
We loved camper-trailing at Barron River Getaway. Site #3 had ample room for our camper and awning set up. The potable water on tap nearby was so convenient! Cooling breezes were experienced throughout the day and the river views were magnificent. The river was pleasantly shallow in places and clean, quiet and very peaceful. Canoes/kayaks were available for our use, along with picnic chairs and table and lounges by the river on a sandy beach area, courtesy of the Hosts. Judy and Don are wonderful hosts, giving clear detailed directions to the Property, and a welcoming, informative meet and greet on arrival. We were given our Privacy, and Judy also checked on us a couple times throughout our 6day stay. It was just Magic! We did not want to leave! Hardly any bugs, and a small presence of marsh flies during our stay. Being only one hour drive from our home in Cairns, we will DEFINITELY be visiting this piece of paradise again.

Barron River Getaway
This place ticks all the boxes! Beautiful setting by the river with access to kayaks and canoes, and a great place to cool down with a swim. Amazing wildlife including wallabies and deers. Each site is easy to access and has its own campfire. Short drive to Kuranda for those wanting to check out the markets and tourist attractions. Very friendly and accomodating hosts who have created a beautiful paradise that campers have the great opportunity to experience! We’ll definitely be back!!

Barron River Getaway
We had a great 2 night getaway with our family at Judy & Don’s place. The grounds are beautiful overlooking the Baron, perfect spot for the kids to explore the river & surrounds. We brought our own kayaks but there are canoes and kayaks on site to use, swings in a big tree for the kids and plenty of space to run around. Judy & Don were lovely hosts & we will definitely be returning again in the future :)

Barron River Getaway
Awesome entry thru cattle farm with wild deer and wallabies. Excellent well spaced sites, all with a great view of the river and well maintained property. Welcomed by the most gracious hosts, Judy and Don. Which was one of the highlights of our stay Canoes and kayaks are supplied if required. Will definitely be back to visit this piece of secluded paradise and worth the trip to meet Judy and Don.

Barron River Getaway
Judy et Don sont des hôtes très chaleureux et accueillants. Nous avons passé un magnifique séjour dans leur propriété, au plus proche de la nature et des animaux en liberté (wallabies, daims, chevaux, …). L’endroit est apaisant et paradisiaque. Eau et électricité étaient disponibles, ce qui nous a permis de passer un agréable séjour dans notre van. Je recommande vivement cet endroit calme, authentique, loin des attractions touristiques de Kuranda. Nous avons également opté pour un massage au coucher du soleil chez Debbie, un moment magique de bien-être et de détente. Un grand merci à tous les trois pour cette échappée belle !

We loved our stay at Judy's place. This campground is so natural with your own private river beach. That was beautiful Judy,Don, and Rob were so friendly. Thank you guys for everything. See you soon.
