Closed season for fishing. Mary River Cod breeding season. Fishing resumes in October. The sites are level pastured camping areas with lovely trees providing good shade alongside the river. We have tried to preserve the natural ecosystem on the river bank so it is heavily wooded and largely untouched. The total area for camping is approximately 500 metres with only four sites spaced far apart to ensure plenty of space and privacy. Each site has very easy access to the river, via a couple of tracks. You can enjoy swimming and kayaking in the river. Fishing is welcome when permitted but must be catch and release only. There is plenty of wildlife to see, especially for bird watchers: kingfishers, parrots and birds of prey as well as platypus, air breathing lungfish and Mary River turtles. Access is 4WD or AWD only. In severe weather the Mary River can flood. Be prepared to leave in extreme weather. Campers must be self sufficient with their own camping toilet and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. Well behaved pets are welcome. More often than not, you are welcome to stay the whole day of your departure. Just ask us, as mostly there will be no new campers coming after a weekend.

We loved our time here. We stayed two nights on site 4. The camping is peaceful and the hosts are friendly. I definitely recommend.

Site 3 - Mary River Frontage Camp
We booked site 3 and 4 for 2 families but we liked site 4 more for our 2 caravans. Both sites are next to each other, with Site 3 the biggest. If you have a van it would be hard to turn around on site 2 or 1 as it’s a dead end and against the fence. You can’t see the river from any of sites except glimpse through trees but the view of the hills around the farm were nice. Both 3 & 4 have a steep path down to the river, with the path on site 4 easier. The kids liked the sprinkler coming over the fence to run through. One of our nights we were woken up from the sprinkler on the roof of the van as it reaches quite far, so stay close to the trees if on site 3 or 4. The hosts were very friendly and we loved our stay. Would be lovely when warmer for a swim.

We stayed on site 1. Lovely flat grassy site and very spacious. The river that runs along the back of the property is lovely and clear and great for a dip. Gordan was very easy to communicate with and plenty of firewood free of charge. Would definitely recommend. We will be back.

Site 4 - Mary River Frontage Camp
Tent camping here was amazing. We had site 3 which had shade options throughout the day and views of the river. The river was mostly shin depth when we were there, but deeper spots up to our waists made it nice for a dip. The grass for the whole section near the river was slashed which made it easy to walk and set tents. The view of the hills was lovely, as was the birdsong in the morning.

Great spot with large grassy open areas well spaced apart, with very nice views of surrounding hills. As many have said, sites 3 & 4 are the largest and best suited to larger vans, and site 2 has the best shade in summer. River access is via a communal path (sites don't have separate access) which is steep, but once you are down there it's heaven.

Lack of communication due to no phone service on arrival. No animals per photos. No mention that creek was steep access. Plowing fields and fertilising from sun up to sun down which was very noisy. Could be a great spot.

We had a great time at Kenilworth Free Range Farm. We booked Site 4 but luckily for us had the whole place to ourselves on a chilly weekend. The morning mist was very impressive.
