Welcome to Port Macquarie's 'The Hatch Farm'; a pet friendly, interactive animal and fishing farm stay! A 150-acre working farm with a stunning outlook over the saltwater Maria River (with a rustic boat ramp and waterway running into the Hastings River). There is plenty to do and see at this hipcamp which was awarded to be one of the best hipcamps in NSW for 2024, and Australia wide for 2025! Located on the Mid North Coast NSW, 4kms off the Pacific Highway, and a quick 13/15-minute drive to the holiday township of Port Macquarie. Port Macquarie is known for its beautiful beaches, coastal scenery and walks, koala hospital, local strawberry and tomato picking, and 4WDing at nearby beaches and through Cairncross State Forest. Bernard and Susan are custodians of the farm, primarily using the land for poultry (egg), pig, and goat farming. They are transitioning to an off-grid and eco-friendly lifestyle for their retirement. The Hatch Farm is home to many animals, most of whom are rescues - including border collies, cavalier king charles spaniels, chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep, goats, miniature horses, cows, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. There is plenty to do and see around the farm from complete relaxation, interacting with the friendly animals (there is usually a variety of babies to cuddle!), to casting a line or launching your boat from the rustic boat ramp. Please note that all animal interactions are self-led (including our animal nursery), and children must be supervised by their parents/carers. It is great for small to medium set ups such as swags or tents (not suitable for caravans). Friendly pets welcome. All campsites are set back from the saltwater Maria River but still have a stunning outlook. You are welcome to set up an additional retreat by the bank or under the shady trees closer to the river for the duration of your stay (e.g. separate gazebo and/or enclosed fire pit). We stayed at Hatch Farm for two nights, and it was easily one of the best camping trips we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, Bernard and Susan made us feel incredibly welcome. They were fantastic hosts, and Bernard even took the time to share some local fishing advice—which definitely came in handy! 😂 The property is immaculately maintained. You can tell Bernard and Susan take enormous pride in the campground, and it shows in every part of the property. Everything is neat, clean and exceptionally well looked after. We couldn’t have asked for better weather: beautiful sunny days followed by heavy rain at night. Thankfully, our campsite had a great shelter that kept us dry and made the evenings just as enjoyable. A special mention has to go to Jack, Sally and Boo—the three beautiful Border Collies who roam the property. They were such a highlight of our stay and seemed to adopt us for the weekend. Jack even slept beside our swag each night, which made the experience even more memorable. We genuinely can’t recommend Hatch Farm highly enough. Between the incredible hospitality, the peaceful surroundings, the immaculate grounds and the friendly four-legged welcoming committee, it’s a place we’ll definitely be returning to. Thank you, Bernard and Susan, for such a wonderful stay! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was undoubtedly a pleasant surprise to stumble across this amazing campsite. When our plans changed at the last minute, we booked this site as a one-night stopover on our way through the area. It is one of the most picturesque and well-set-up Hip Camps that I've come across; the allotments are huge and stunning. The kids absolutely loved it, and the sheer array of animals they have there for the kids to pet is incredible. Susan was super accommodating and personally took us around, letting the girls hold all kinds of animals. We only wish we could have stayed there longer and explored the area. We will definitely go back, and I highly recommend this place to anyone with kids looking to escape into nature.

Awesome Hipcamp with plenty to do! So many adorable animals to pat and cuddle - puppies, baby bunnies, baby goats, miniature horses 😄 plus the friendly border collies who looked after us - special mention to Jack 💓 a highlight was cuddling freshly born goats - such a special moment. Place is close to town etc to explore, yet feels far from everything to relax. Great facilities to still feel fresh whilst camping. Thank you Bernard and Susan for your hospitality! 😄

Susan and Bernard absolutely lovely and very welcoming to there home. Beautiful open camp sites looking over the river and farm animals to feed for both adults and children. We managed to catch some crabs in the river as well. 😃

We absolutely loved it here. The view of the river was lovely but the highlight was definitely the animals. My kids were so excited every morning to cuddle and feed all the animals. But the star of the show was definitely Sally their dog who my daughter absolutely loved. She loved playing with Sally and “daddy dog” on the beach and even had invented their own game of digging holes in the sand. My 5 year old took photos of all the animals on the last day with her camera and every morning she still looks at the photo of Sally and her pups. Bernie and Susan were also so incredibly lovely and we were lucky enough to cuddle their very adorable one day old goats. We are incredibly grateful

We had such a great time here and can’t wait to go back. A special experience visiting the animals in the nursery and feeding the goats and pony’s in the paddocks. Sites are large and spacious. We were in a large group and the shelter gave us a communal space we could come together for meals, a fire and out of the weather if it rained. Would consider bringing a boat for the next trip. Thank you Susan and Bernard for opening up your home to visitors we had the best time!

Such a peaceful spot by a beautiful river. Although we experience a bit of rain we were so grateful that we were able to utilise the shelters that the campsites have. The baby animals were so cute! And our poodles enjoyed the company of Jack the resident dog, which soon became their playmate. Great finishing, also crabbing! Love this place, and both of the hosts were so lovely, we will definitely be returning.

It was an awesome experience for the whole family. The kids loved the hands-on animal interactions and the trampoline, while Dad made the most of the kayaking, fishing, and crabbing right next to our camp. For me, it was how effortless parenting felt . I could always see the kids from our campsite, which made it so relaxing. As an animal lover, this place is incredible, with friendly kelpies visiting camp and plenty of baby animals for the kids to cuddle and care for. My daughter spent her days bouncing on the trampoline with new friends and heading back and forth to the nursery, she was in her element. Bernie and Susan made the stay extra special with their generosity, knowledge, and genuine friendliness. It’s easy to see why this place has been a Hipcamp favourite for years. We needed a quick stop over night to camp arrived at night but when we woke up in the morning there was beautiful sun flowers and a beautiful river and lots of farm animals was so nice unfortunately we didnt get to stay and enjoy any of it but definelty would have loved to.

We had a very lovely night here - beautiful and peaceful with lots of space. Our daughters loved the animals and the play space. Would definitely recommend!

We had the best time staying at the Hatch farm! Our favourite campsite so far along the east coast, you can tell Susan and Bernard put a lot of thought and effort into making the campsite a great place to stay and are wonderful hosts! There was so much to do, from kayaking to playing with the adorable pups and other farm animals, we wish we could’ve stayed longer :)

A gorgeous, peaceful stay on the riverbank. Highly recommend for families as there is plenty to keep the kiddies entertained, especially kayaking and playing amongst the farm animals A beautiful spot to rest and get away from the world for a few days. Thankyou Bernard & Susan!

We had an amazing stay at The Hatch and couldn’t recommend it more. Susan and Bernard were incredibly friendly and welcoming hosts, which made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The campsites are spacious and well laid out, with large shelters and easy access to the river. Toilets and showers were spotless and clearly very well maintained. The setting is wonderfully relaxing and quiet—perfect for switching off and enjoying nature. For families, the animal nursery and the abundance of playground equipment would be a real highlight. We also loved the free kayaks, which were fantastic for exploring the river, and there are plenty of great spots for fishing too. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we will definitely be coming back.

It was a grand camp-site with beautiful water views. Very quiet and calm. We had a party of 12 with a caravan, tents and swags, a boat and 2 jetskis with plenty of room to spare. We had our cars beside us. We found out to be a very secure site. Susan and Bernard were very accommodating and approachable. All of the animals were great. The babies were so cute and being able to pat and hold them was. a highlight. We caught some fish from the bank and jagged a big crab that we cooked up for a snack for 12. Firewood and bait was available to purchase and the amenities were well looked after. The young at heart enjoyed the trampoline and the climbing equipment. Highly recommended
